It has been in the 90's already... 😓

I think I have worked harder this week than I ever have before! Man, we have really just been everywhere. We have been trying to set up lessons with members and then all the rest of our time has been dedicated to finding inactive members and potential investigators. We visited a little over 35 different homes in the past few days alone. Pretty much, I'm tired and sore all the time, but that's okay because we have made a little bit of progress. We still have no investigators and 7 of our 8 scheduled inactive lessons fell through BUT we had that 1 lesson with a completely inactive member and she showed up at church this week so I'm counting it as a success!

Things have been great with Sister Gonzales and I hope we stay together until she goes home. I have also been learning a lot about the Philippines and have decided that someday I will save a lot of money and then live in the Philippines for a few months like a rich person. Apparently 1 US Dollar is equal to about 45 pesos there. I asked her how much it takes to go grocery shopping for a week and she said that her family (6 people) have plenty to eat on about $25 a week. In other words, mom and dad, we are going to visit her! She's super chill and I just love her though, too. 😀

We went over to someone's house for dinner this week and had to hurry and eat because someone's 6 year old daughter ran away so everyone in the Ward was looking for her. We helped watch after her twin siblings for a while and everyone around us was just freaking out and I couldn't get any of the story. I thought it was a huge deal because there were like 4 cop cars outside their house and tons of people were gathered. Well, it turns out that this girl got in trouble for making a mess at home so she "ran away" and hid in a neighbor's house for a little over an hour. It was so ridiculous! I just kept thinking, uhhh im pretty sure my parents wouldn't have even noticed I was gone yet. Even if they did, they'd be like, "give it some time. She'll be back". Her parents were sobbing everywhere. It was a huge hot mess.

Well, I'm excited for this week because ELDER HOLLAND and special training just for the sisters and interviews with President Griffin and SO MANY GOOD THINGS. Also, the sisters we live with beat the rest of our zone in our weekly challenge so we are getting a pie! One of our zone leaders owns a pie bakery back in Iowa so he bribes us with delicious pies. I'm so stoked. It's gonna be a good week.

Dearest people that

Well. good start of to new transfer!

Started it off by finding a few eligidos! One of them that really stood out to me was a man named Alejandro, who is 68 years old. We found him in the street. Awesome man. We had another appointment with him and taught the restoration. We found out that his wife died about 9 years ago and he was heart broken. We bore our testimonies about eternal families, and he told us "im willing to do anything to be with my wife again." The spirit wa there and there were a lot of tears. He has a baptismal date for the 8th of may. Families are eternal.

I love my family. I love you all. Stay awesome.

Transfers

Dearest people who dont use transfers to keep track of time,

Its been a long transfer. Eight weeks. Yeah, it feels good being able to start a new one. But! Transfer News! Im not being transfered! Whoop whoop! Ill be starting now my third transfer here in Parque Patricios. And Im so excited to be here another transfer! I really do love this ward :) Also itll be my first area with more than two transfers so thats awesome as well. Im still here with Elder Nordine. Elder Nordine has also been called to be one of the district leaders here in la zona chacabuco. So he´ll probably end up dying here in 3 more transfers. We´ll see :)

BUT! We finished off the eight week transfer with a baptism! A miracle baptism la verdad. Nico was baptized and confirmed this last week, and his dad was able to do the ordinance. Definitely one of the fastest baptisms ive had in my mission. Took a whole 9 days haha :) We now have Diego on date and we will be putting another man on date tonight.

THOUGHT: Jacob 6:12 O be wise; what can I say more?

What more can I say? Be smart. Simple. But, we will have times when we are not so smart, which brings us to another simple subject. The atonement of Jesus Christ. The atonement is one of the simplest topics of the Gospel, but one of the least understood. Study the atonement. It will change your perspective on everything. It has definitely changed mine. Love you all. :)

Back on the bikes...I'm sore 🚴

Hello!

A lot has been going on this week but nothing that's super exciting. I got my new companion, Sister Gonzales, and she is AWESOME. She is from a small farming town in the Philippines and has been out for about 16 months. Chances are, we will be together until she goes home. Our Ward members are starting to make jokes about how everyone in the mission will start calling me 'the reaper'. Not gonna lie, that would be pretty cool. Anyway, we get along super well and she is just hilarious. She is SUPER quiet though so I'm the only one who knows how hilarious she is. I love it. We just have all these secret jokes.

We still have no investigators and we are trying super hard. We are also starting to have some major issues with our Ward mission leader. To be honest, after our meeting with him last night, I let a few tears loose on the bike ride home. I was just so frustrated! He doesn't want us to do our jobs because it will "mess up his plans for the Ward". Basically, our Ward used to have really bad missionaries so now he has absolutely no trust in us whatsoever and asks us to not talk to the members about missionary work. I could go on. The point is though, I'm super angry with him and am trying to be a good missionary but also, that was the first time that I cried because of how much I cared about missionary work and I think that marks some progress on my part. Yussssss.

In good news, I just found out approximately 3.7 minutes ago that Elder Holland is coming to our mission in 10 days! HOLY COW IM GONNA DIE. I can't tell you how many times I have read his talk from this last conference. It has helped me so much and I suggest you read and study it too. It can apply to EVERYONE. I'm so excited that he's coming and I can't wait to let you all know how it goes!

I'm officially over halfway in my mission now and I still have a long way to go but I also think that this is the closest I have ever been to being the person Heavenly Father wants me to be. It has been hard and completely awful at times but I've already seen how I have changed for the better. 9 months...I've done it once. I can do it again.

Hope you're all having a good week!

PS sorry, I honestly did not take any pictures this week! I need to get a lot better at taking pictures… And finding interesting things to take pictures of…

Also, mom, The week I get home, we seriously need to go get some pedicures!

T R A N S F E R S...also, I'm almost halfway 🍕

So, I finally had a week where a lot of stuff happened! Hopefully it will be able to make sense to you.

To start off with some background, my companion Sister Mudrow was a sister training leader which means that she has to look after other sisters in the mission. Sister training leaders basically go on exchanges with other sisters to make sure that they're doing what they're supposed to be doing and that they aren't having any issues with each other. So this week, I went on three exchanges to different parts of the mission. It was fun and super crazy! I got to go to one of my favorite wards in the mission which is in a really sketchy area because it's as close to downtown Phoenix as we get. While I was there, I met some crazy old people, saw lots of police cars and blockades, and was almost hit by a train! It was like one of those crazy scenes from a movie where someone gets stuck on the tracks and everyone is honking at them. It was super scary! But hey, I'm still alive so all is well.

Sister Mudrow went home today. She went into the Mission home yesterday though so I have been without a companion for the past day. It feels really weird and I kind of feel naked all the time. It was a really good transfer with her and I'm going to miss her a lot! She was really easy to get along with.

I have been super stressed out all week about getting a new companion! I didn't know if I was going to have to train or not or whatever. But, we got home from shopping just a few minutes ago and I received a phone call from President Griffin. He told me that I was staying in my area and my new companion's name is Sister Gonzales. The first time I met her was this last week because I switched with her and went into her area and she into mine. She is super nice, really quiet, and is from the Philippines! I'm really excited to get to know her and be companions with her but a little stressed out too because she is also getting ready to go home! I think she has one maybe two transfers left. I'm not sure so I'll have to let you know next week! Pray for me to not get trunky! Oh yeah, President Griffin also told me that I'm going to be a sister training leader from now on… I'm not really sure how I feel about that…especially if I'm over dramatic sisters. I don't want to be the one who has to go on any emergency exchanges to keep sisters from fighting each other or something. Oh well, I think it should turn out fine.

Fun facts from this week:
On Sunday after sacrament, a returning less active member of the Ward came up to me and gave me a hug. She then proceeded to kiss me on the cheek very sloppily and bite my ear lobe! It was the weirdest thing and I had no idea how to react! Also, the Bishop took Sister Mudrow and I to Dairy Queen and I got a S'mores blizzard with Oreo. It was the best thing ever although I have no idea why they didn't just call it a S'moreo blizzard. #opportunitywasted

Overall, it was a good week. We still have no investigators but we can now get back to biking again! I'm pretty excited for it since I'm sick of staying in this apartment all the time. We will have a good time and hopefully whip our butts into shape! I'm working really hard on having lots of faith. Faith to find!! Wish us luck!

Dearest people who

Great week this last week! First of all, Mariano was confirmed a member of the church yesterday. Love that guy to death. He has an interview with the Bishop tomorrow and will most likely be getting the priesthood this sunday! Whoop Whoop! But sadly, he might be moving to another part of Buenos Aires this next week so he can be closer to the 2 universities hes studying at. Yeah. 2 universities. But its okay. Cause Ill most likely see him after my misison cause he wants to go to byu to study now haha!

We also had another miracle this week. The bishop gave us a reference of a less active family in our ward. So, we went and visited them. Reactivated them. And.... they have a son that isnt baptized yet! So, we will be teaching him this week and will be baptized on Saturday! Miracle! God is blessing us so much. In the times where I felt like we wouldnt have any success, he has blessed me and these people immensly. Seeing these people progress in the Gospel of Jesus Christ keeps me moving forward. I love these people. And I love you all. :)

Stay awesome.

I am officially an old man.

Sister Alex Solomon:

SURPRISE!! It has been another slow week where we weren't able to do much of anything... however, Sister Mudrow's foot is healing well so I am very glad for that. We had a few lessons all with less active members in the ward and those went pretty well too. Still no new investigators but we have stepped up our game and are working hard to find people. We were so sick of having nothing to do that finally we just got dropped off in a section of our area that we don't really know much about and we walked around it for HOURS knocking on doors. It was kind of the 'fancy land' of our area. Man, some of these people have massive houses that are just gorgeous on the inside. Every time
we talk to one of those people I just want to ask, "If you have that much money, why the heck do you live here? The winters aren't worth it!" Not to be negative, but that's what I was thinking as it was late
March and I was covered in dust and sweat from head to toe while getting completely sunburned.

We are down to the last week of Sister Mudrow's mission so it's weird having to help her get all of her stuff together. It's causing me to think about home a lot still and that hasn't been very fun so I've
been trying to knock it off. Speaking of home though, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CONNOR! I can't believe he's 17 and that he went to prom and everything. So weird.

So, why am I an old man? There are probably a lot more reasons on top of this but after one of my 4 mile runs this week, I was stretching like I normally do and getting ready to do some lifting when I felt this nasty twinge in my lower back that completely dropped me. Man, it hurt so bad! I mean, I've had a sore back before and it gets all twisted from running and one of my legs ends up shorter than the other one but it has never been like this. For the last 3 days, I have not been able to bend over practically at all and sitting or standing or pretty much anything just hurts. Honestly, I kind of sound like Grandpa Evans walking and grunting around on his crutches in the morning. I'm just frustrated now because I AM TOO YOUNG FOR THIS. If you have any suggestions or solutions, I am very open to them!

General Conference was amazing! I hope you guys got to watch all of it! Remember last October when we had a mission tour where 2 members of the seventy came to talk to our mission? A couple weeks after that, BOTH of them spoke in conference. Well, just a couple weeks ago we had mission tour and Elder Mervyn B. Arnold came to speak to us and it was just about the scariest thing ever. Crazy thing though, he also spoke in conference this week! In his talk, he was really weepy but I will
tell you, he is NOT like that all the time AT ALL. But his talk was really awesome and I learned a lot from it and all the others.

My favorite talks were the ones given by Elder Bednar, President Uchtdorf, and Elder Holland, of course. I can't wait until they upload them to Gospel Library so I can read them all!! Seriously though, Elder Holland just kind of blew me away and I thought I was going to cry a little bit. The best was when MoTab sang Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing which is one of my favorite songs. I just got goosebumps the whole time. How was conference for all of you? What were your favorite parts?

Fun Facts of the week:
I planted my seeds that were in my Easter basket from family and the cilantro is really sprouting up! I'm so excited! The parsley is starting to peek through too but there's no sign of the peppers yet. I think that's one of the only fun things that happened.

Elder Kannon Evans

Dearest people who heard conference in english,

How goes it?! Hope you all had an amazing conference weekend! We definitely did here, because yeah, conference. But also because MARIANO WAS BAPTIZED! He was baptized yesterday in between sessions along with a few other people from the zone. It was an amazing experience. Love that man.

Other than that the week was kinda.. ehh.. My companion ended up getting sick, and we had to stay in our apartment for two days. A lot of organizing was done, scriptures were read, and the church movie Legacy was watched many times.

One of the main topics that I noticed during this last conference was the importance of ordinances. Elder Kent F Richards talk stood out to me, "Come to the temple. Come often. Come with and for your family. Come, and help others to come too. … Each temple is His holy, sacred house and … therein each of us may learn and know the powers of godliness."

Take advantage of the blessings that we have close by. Attend the temple. And prepare yourselves to have eternal families. I love you all, I love my Savior.
Marianos baptism :)

Elder Evans
