Hola Hermanos y Hermanas
Wow. What an experience. This has definitely been the craziest 2 1/2 days of my life. But let me tell you, I have loved every minute of it.
Not gonna lie it was a little difficult leaving my family, there were definitely plenty of tears shed. Until about 30 seconds later. As soon as I walked onto the campus of the MTC I instantly felt comforted. The spirit is so incredibly strong here it's insane. I knew as soon as I walked onto the campus that this was the place I needed to be.
My companions name is Elder Butler. We are both going to the Buenos Aires North mission so I'll definitely be seeing him again. We get along really well which is so relieving. That was the one thing that I was worried about before I entered the MTC, if i was going to have a good companion or not, so my prayers have definitely been answered.
My district! Oh my goodness I love my district! We are all exactly alike! Everyone in our district is athletic, so gym time is always a blast! But you can tell everyone wants to be here and we all push each other to work hard and do our best, espescially in our language studies.
Spanish. After I met my companion we went right into spanish class. They don't speak English to you. Ever. So everyone in our district was SO confused. We all could pick and choose certain words but none of us knew what our instructor was saying. But let me tell you Hermanos y Hermanas, the gift of tongues is real. I've been in language study for only two days and I can already understand a lot of the words that are being said. Speaking is a little more difficult though. But its only the third day so i'm not too worried :) My companion and I have been praying for the gift of tongues in all of our prayers, and through hard work and faith in Jesus Christ, I know the gift of tongues can be given to us, same with all of you.
We have an investigator! His name is Raymundo. We are teaching him later today. In Spanish. And I've had two days of language study. Yeah I guess you can say I'm freaking out a little bit! So my companion and I are definitely going to be studying nonstop until then. But with faith I know that the gift of tongues can be given to us, and we will be able to teach him all that he needs to know. Faith has been one thing that I have been thinking and pondering about while I have been here. As missionaries, without faith we can do nothing. Faith is everything as a missionary. And we have to put our complete trust in Him in order to do the work.
I haven't had that many experiences since I've been here, heck it's only been two days, so sorry if this email is a little boring. I promise that they will get better :) But I know I'll have more experiences to share by next week :) This place changes you though. I have seen so much of myself change in just the short two days that I've been here. I'm excited and happy that I am here, to learn a new language, and to most importantly invite others to come unto Christ. Love you all!
Elder Evans
