Eclectic Elements Fabric Flower - the ePlay Challenge

Hi eclectic Paperie fans!  Julia here sharing a project I made for Andie's June ePlay challenge that premiered yesterday - Altered Fabric.
I made a flower using TH Eclectic Elements Fabric - Crafting Pack that I layered to Art Parts Clearly for Art Modeling Film.   Here are some photos of my process.  In order to make the fabric flower sturdy I adhered it to the Modeling Film using Glue n Seal.
I layered the fabric over the modeling film and let it dry.  Then I die cut the pieces with the Alterations Tattered Florals die.
And by attaching the fabric to the modeling film - I was able to curve the petals by heating them with my heat tool.
So here is my layered Tattered Flower adhered to the top of an ATB -  Artist Trading Box - that I made using Little Sizzles 6"x13" black matboard and the Blocks/Cube - die both from Sizzix.  Here it is looking down on the top.
And here are views of the 4 sides -  I used tags from Nature Walk 12"x12"  Panel by 7 Dots Studio for my panels -  I cut the tags down to 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares - I just love the images and the colors matched the fabric perfectly!  I sponged the edges with Ranger Distress Pumice Stone ink and adhered them to the sides of the ATB.   I rubbed Adirondack Metallic Gold Acrylic Paint Dabber with my finger randomly over the panels  On this front panel I added a Word Band that I rubbed more of the Gold Acrylic Paint over to highlight the word.  I wove a piece of Linen Ribbon through the loops in the band and pulled apart the ends - I love this ribbon - it gives such great texture and dimension!  I also added Chit Chat Stickers on each panel.
On the next side I added a Sprocket Gear rubbed with Gold Acrylic Paint.  I also slipped a little piece of Linen Ribbon through the hole in the gear and spread the ends.
On the next side - I adhered an Adornments/Arrow that I inked with the Gold Acrylic Paint.  I adhered a little piece of Linen Ribbon here - it matched the grass on the tag panel perfectly!
And on the 4th side I added another Sprocket Gear that I threaded a piece of Linen Ribbon through and inked with gold.
I was going to add some die cut leaves to the flower -  but decided to continue with the Linen Ribbon - that I just looped and spread the ends adhereing them to the bottom of the flower - did I say I REALLY love this ribbon?!
I used thick foam dots to adhere the layers of the flower to each other so there was space between each layer - accept for the two smallest pieces which I just adhered with Glue N Seal and added the Gold Berry Flower Center from Blossom Bucket.  I also rubbed the Gold Acrylic paint on the petals with my finger just to grunge it up a bit and add some shimmer!
So - I'm very happy with my little Altered Fabric flower on top of my cute little 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" box (and I didn't seal the flap on the top piece so it actually opens and could be used to give a little gift!)
How will you alter some fabric??   We'd love to see your project linked up at the ePlay challenge found here!  You have the month of June to enter.  As always - Kim is offering a gift certificate to a random winner!

A House is...

Hello everyone. It's Bonnie here today to show you another project I made in response to this month's ePlay Challenge, Wood. I love houses...real ones, images, art projects...houses. A little while ago, I ordered some of Wendy Vecchi's Blossom Bucket embellies, several of them with the idea of creating 3D houses. They became my inspiration for today's project.

I started with two discarded chunks of wood from the garage: a triangular one and a rectangular one. They were both about 1.25 ' thick. Both pieces were gessoed as I wasn't quite sure what I would do to them. In the same eP order, I received one of Michelle Hill's fabulous vintage paper ephemera bundles...oh my word...love! There is so much goodness in one of these packs that I was in Mixed Media Heaven. I used some of the lovely old sheet music to cover the front and back of the triangular piece, using Matte Medium to adhere it. I used a page from an old S&H stamp book, complete with  a row of stamps to wrap around both sides and the back.

I spritzed an old bingo card from the bundle with Studio Blue and Lark Art Anthology sprays plus a little water and adhered it to the front of the house. Stamping was done all sides of the blocks with Forget-Me-Not Archival ink and a text stamp. Stencilling was done with TCW's Tiny Circles stencil and gesso as well as with TCW's Mini Chevron stencil and Coffee Archival ink. Vintage Photo Distress ink and then Black Big Brush pen were used around all of the edges of both pieces as well as here and there to age them. Lemon gelato scuffs were also applied and spread with a dry finger. White gesso rings were added with watered down gesso and a bottle lid. A torn piece of an old receipt from the kit was inked with Peeled Paint Distress ink and adhered to the base of the house for grass.

A stamped and embossed saying from Wendy Vecchi's Art Comforts stamp set was added to the peak of the house front. Vintage Photo DI was used to grunge it up and darken the torn edges.

The eye peering from the Blossom Parts Front Door was stamped with another WV stamp, An Eye For Art, and then coloured with Prismacolor pencils. A bead was adhered to the door for a knob. The star on the Blossom Part Roof above the door was darkened with a Pitt pen. The resin windows from my stash are backed with more paper from the ephemera bundle which was colourized with Scattered Straw and Wild Honey Distress ink.

The back and sides were stamped with the greenery from the same Art Comforts stamp set using Fern Green Archival ink. The sentiment, from the same set, was embossed in black, torn around and inked with Vintage Photo. The clock in the peak of the house is a wooden piece from my stash.

To complete the house, small vintage wooden dominoes, a thrift shop find, were adhered to the roof and a long wooden bead filled in the gap at the peak. A border was cut (it's actually a rolled daisy die) from black cardstock and adhered to hide the joint between the two pieces of wood.

I had so much fun playing with this house project, with the ephemera from Michelle's  bundle, and with all of these wonderful Wendy Vecchi products. There's still lots of time to enter the ePlay wood challenge. We'd love to see what you create.

Thanks for visiting.

Unstoppable

Morning folks!  It's Kim here with today's art journal project!  I wish I had step-by-step instructions but I confess that once I got going on this baby...I didn't even think to stop!  However, I'm happy to share some tips on how this was created (and I'm working on some videos too!)

I ended up being able to take Catherine Scanlon's Gelli Plate class, held at our studio, a few weeks ago and let me tell you...it was fabulous!  If we have Catherine back for another round of classes...you need to attend!  She's an amazing artist and a great teacher, we had so much fun!!  Anyway...during the class (which was an all day event) I ended up making 23, yes 23, pages!!  This all served as backgrounds for what will be finished art journal pages.  (We used an inexpensive spiral bound journal book, which we took apart.  Once finished, I'll rebind the journal.)  So the background of this page was created using a Gelli Plate and stencils.  And see that light shine in the upper right hand corner of the photo...metallic paint!  Oh, man it's fabulous!

Once I got my background pages home, I spent many hours just staring at them...my youngest said to me one morning, "Mom, why are you just sitting there starting at those pages?"  LOL!  Seriously, I had a breakdown of creative mojo!  And then, just like that, during dinner one night...an idea popped into my head!  Actually, it was more of a thought that I needed to add a big text circle to this page (this background is one of my favs).  I found some heavy weight text paper that I had in my stash and cut out the circle.  Then I stamped one of Dina's new girlie stamps (links at the end of this post) on to the paper and colored her in with watercolors, which is becoming one of my fav new tools.  I attached the circle to the far right of my page and cut off the excess.  Then I used that "magic pencil"  (yes, I promise I'm getting these for the store!!) around the circle and used a waterbrush to blend the black...a strong black line makes everything better!

Then I remembered that I had one of Dina's text stamps in my stash and the shape of it fit perfectly around my circle...ohhh...journaling love!  I added the sentiment, cut apart of course, from Dina's stamp set and then I found a Blossom Bucket embellie hanging around and lo' and behold, it was the perfect hair accessory!

And there you have it...my very first completed Gelli Plate art journal page.  And I've had so much fun with these backgrounds...that I've made a bunch more pages.  Can't wait to share!  Want to grab some of the products that I used on today's page...See the links below:  Enjoy!
