Embossing with Dimensional Paint

Happy Place

To say I was inspired by one of our entries to the eP embossing challenges would be an understatement!!

When i saw Judith's adorable card I was inspired to try a new technique with some of the Art Anthology dimensional paint.
I wondered what would it look like if I painted the background and then used the paint through a Prima stencil?

The paint is a little more loose than embossing paste so you don't develop a super crisp image but I love the subtle embossed image again the background.

I also loved the way the mist puddled on the dried paint and created highlights in the indentations.

I used an old TA mist for the subtle yellow and Dylusions sprays in Calypso Teal and Dirty Martini for the splatters and green accents.  I used some Petaloo color me crazy flowers and Prima Cartographer flowers. The Key hole and resin pieces are Prima as well.

Loved this fun pic of aubrey Sue for this super fun bright layout. Hope you enjoyed my take on embossing!

Dream

Hi Monica here to share my 1st official post as an Eclectic Paperie DT.  I was so excited when I was asked to join the team after my time as a GDT.  So I created this Altered G45 box and used some gesso, glimmer mist and so much more!!

I sprayed mist all over the box and applied gesso sparingly all over.  I then used TCW stencils in different place on the box as well.
Side look at the box normally I dont do such dark sultry colors but I loved how the blue came out on this piece.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!!

New Beginnings

Hello and happy July 1st!  Can you believe this year is already half over?  I can't but looking at the bright side, with a new year approaching comes the chance for new beginnings.

I don't know about you, but I love trees.  Big trees, small trees - all types of trees.  I especially love to see a grand old tree all by itself in a field.  Trees inspire new beginnings for me as well as the ability to change.  So I decided to create a little  wooden plaque using Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 Layered Tree Stencil with her awesome sauce Embossing Paste.
product links at bottom of post
Some time ago I had purchased those cheap wooden plaques.  This one measures aproximately 3.5" x 5" and I paid less than a dollar for it.
First thing was to put a coat of Dina Wakley's Black Gesso down.  Once dry, I mixed some of Studio 490's White Embossing Paste with some Paints.  Here's a tip:  Next time you are at a thriftstore or yard sale and see mini cupcake pans - grab them.  I started using these to mix paints and especially embossing pastes!
I didn't take pictures of mixing the paints and embossing paste, but it's like your cooking.  A little of this - a little of that until I liked the color.  Adding the embossing paste through the stencil was a two step process.  I did the leaves first and let that dry.  Next I mixed some more embossing paste with paint for the tree trunk which was then added through the stencil.
I'm always afraid I'll mess up when laying down stencils and pulling the stencils up. And because I had mixed up just a wee bit too much and had some left over, I added the rest to piece of white card stock to be used in collage or in my art journal at another time.

This time, it turned out!  You'll notice that the colors are pretty flat - so I lined the stencil back up with the leaves, adding some tape to make sure it stayed put.  Using my finger, I added Splash of Color - Silks Acrylic Glazes in Key Lime and Olive.
After carefully removing the stencil, I used my Heat It Craft Tool to help speed the drying time along.
Next I mixed Black Soot and Frayed Burlap Distress Paints on my Craft Sheet and using Dina Wakley's #4 Round Brush, aligned the stencil over the tree trunk and tried to add some dimension so that the trunk didn't look so flat.
Then I decided to add dots of Ginger Peach and Sunflower Splash of Color Silks Acrylic Glazes with the brush and while it was still wet, sprinkled some Dristress Rock Candy Dry Glitter over the whole piece.
I could have stopped there but I ended up brushing some of Sunflower Silks Acrylic Glaze around the tree, followed with some white paint, which kind of mixed with the glaze.  I kept adding layers of glaze, going back and forth between adding, smudging and/or removing with a baby wipe.
I lightly sanded the surface with Tim Holtz Idea-ology Sanding Grip because the wood was a little rough (baby wipe kept getting snagged).
Then I misted the whole thing with some Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearl Mist:
Using Faber-Castell Big Brush Markers, I filled in the edges of the tree - to hide some of the white and to add more dimension.  Can I just say.... I LOVE those markers!!!!!  It never ceases to amaze me how these markers will finish a piece.  I used a sticker, which was cut apart, from 7 Dots Cold Country Word Sticker collection.  Generally I always doodle around stickers with a black pen but this time I just swiped my wet brush through some of Silks Acrylic Glazes left over on my craft sheet and brushed it over the stickers to tone down the whiteness of the sticker.
Inka Gold was rubbed around the edges and Matte Glue N Seal was used to seal the entire surface and that was it.  I wanted the beautiful tree to be the main focal point which is why I didn't add any extra stenciling or stamping on the background.

I love how this turned out - simple, yet lots of shimmer and shine and a wonderful daily inspiration!  I hope you enjoyed this project and came away inspired!

Our Time File Folder Mini Album

This guest design month has
certainly flown by for me. I want to thank Kim and Bonnie for having me in to share a few projects with you. It's been a real treat, and I hope you'll come visit me at my blog sometime soon.

Today I have a mini album
made from file folders and featuring Tim Holtz beautiful Wallflower papers. There are a huge amount of photos, so I'll try to keep my explanation simple and short.

I started with three full size
file folders, not the minis that are out there.

Cut to 6 1/2" wide.
Trim off the tab making it 17 1/2". Cut three of these pieces.

Fold in each side to
form a W. The left side that had the tab will be about 1/4" longer.

Add 1/4" Scor Tape to
three sides as shown above. Remove backing and adhere to section to the left. This will form a pocket. Your W is now glued together in the center. The shorter flap will be your cover... the longer flap will now be adhered to your next W....

like this. Apply the Scor
Tape to form a side pocket when adhering the sections together.

When you have all three sections
put together, it will look like this. You should have three top pockets and two side pockets.

I inked all the edges with
Walnut Stain Distress Ink then gave it a vintage look by flicking on some water drops. I inked a piece of Idea-ology white seam binding with the Walnut Stain, Bundled Sage, Vintage Photo DI... and glued it around the book in the center to form my closure.

I did some machine stitching
to my front cover sheet and adhered it to the book.

For the spine I used a
piece of Canvas Corp natural canvas and some lace from my stash.

I added Tim's papers to
the pages along with some stenciling (Burlap Layering Stencil)... both Distress ink to some and gesso to others...

as well as the tags I made
from the file folder scraps and Alterations File Tabs die for the five pockets.  These I topped with Idea-ology Chit Chat stickers.

For the first page I made a
pocket using a scrap from the 7 Dots Studio Nature Walk collection. The wood icons are Prima's Time Traveler. I cut a tag from more of the FF scraps. I folded it at about 1 1/2" and tucked it under the patterned paper. The fly chipboard piece is from Prima's Cartographer.

The birds were cut with
Alterations Birds in Flight Decorative Strip, the foliage with their Spring Greenery. The gems are Prima Say It In Crystals.

Die cuts from Tim's Expedition Ephemera.

Stamping with Tim's Nature Walk.
The butterflies were cut with Alteration's Mini Butterflies.

Idea-ology Pen Nib.

I embellished the cover
with a Prima TT wood icon, some flowers from my stash, more Spring Greenery foliage, and a bit of green Spanish Moss tucked in for more texture.

The back cover is just kraft
cardstock with stamping covered in a coat of gel medium for protection.
I know I tried to squeeze in a
lot of info here, so if you have any questions, please ask away.
Thanks so much again,
ladies, for the opportunity to share some projects with you. It's been a delight.

Thanks for stopping by!
Linda
