I was loving this outfit today. The micro-tweed jacket looks so cute unzipped at the top and the bottom -- it looked very good with a denim skirt and all the red. On the funny side -- I had to get my flu shot this evening, so I quickly changed into a green tee to run over and get my shot -- I looked like an elf.

As soon as I saw this outfit on the left on J. from J's Everyday Fashion, I knew I had to copy it. I added the jacket for a little bit more professionalism as I was still doing Student Led Conferences. I loved how this turned out. I did add navy tights as our weather has quickly changed from 70s to 40s. This gave me chance to wear my Micro-tweed Jacket in Navy that I was just lamenting that I wasn't getting enough wear out of. This outfit was a definite winner!
As for the conferences, I was there for 12 hours and I saw exactly 8 students. That works out to one every hour and twenty minutes....Sigh....

Ha. The way this outfit is laid out makes it look like I have linebacker shoulders. Anyway, I noticed that I haven't really worn this sweater/jacket all year, and that's a shame. So, I pulled it out to wear to my students' orchestra concert. It was kind of fun to get an invitation to come and watch them, and they were pretty good for a junior high orchestra -- I was pleasantly surprised.

Today I am wearing my caribbean tweed skirt from J. Crew. It's such a fun look with this stripe tee and floral cardigan. I wore it with navy tights, and that was the only problem with the outfit -- the cotton lining on this skirt, although great for summer, does not play well with tights. At all. Anyway, I added a closeup at top so that you can see that the blue really does go well with the tweedy green. Today was my last night class -- at least for this particular course. I have a one week break, and then the next one starts.

So -- I guess I'm wearing a lot of blue today, because when the ever loving BHW came home this evening, he called me a smurf. Ha.
Anyway, there's a lot of purple and pink mixed in -- I think it's just the cobalt tights and shoes that give this the whole smurf vibe. But, hey, I'm rocking smurfhood today.

On this date in 1989, I gave birth to my second child and first little son, Brendan Mark Tyler. Brendan, although you were only with us for a very brief 14 hours, I have not forgotten you and your sweet little spirit. Happy birthday to you -- your momma loves you.

Today I went with tweedy black and white and black and white polka dots. I used the little chiffon scarf as a necklace (also surreptitiously trying to cover up a rather wide neckline), and I rather liked how it came out. I do love green!! The only thing I'm not sure of here is the gray tights and gray shoes, but I just couldn't do black today.

It seems like I've been getting a lot of free clothes lately. I got a coupon from Christopher and Banks to get $15 dollars off any purchase, and this layering tee was 14.99, making it just 65 cents. I really like the bright orange color, but I added the tweed jacket and khakis to tone it down a bit.

A while back a fellow fashion blogger mentioned that she was taking this jacket with her on her trip to Miami. It looked awfully cute, so I browsed on over to eBay. Lo and behold, there it was for a mere $20 shipped. It seemed like such a great deal. There was this little disclaimer saying "Please note that I am not sensative (sic) to cigarette scent - I do not believe that this item has a cigarette scent, but if this is an issue w/ you - please do not bid on this item." This should have been a huge red flag, but I was too giddy over the price to think straight, I guess. Anyway, when I opened the package the smell just about knocked me off my feet.
To make a long story short, I washed it. In the washing machine (hand wash cycle). Twice. And amazingly enough, after a bit of touch up ironing, it looked every bit as good as new and smelled about 100 times better. So here I am, wearing it today with the Pastiche skirt and a Fresh Mint ruffle tee from Talbots. And just to make it even more fun, I kept up with my animal bracelet moment and added this elephant bracelet from J. Crew.

And...this has really been a lucky week here at our house (except for my husband getting laid off, but...if he gets another job right away, that will turn out to be pretty lucky, too, as he was considering quitting last year, but now he will get severance). I actually won Gigi's blog giveaway over at Gigi's Gone Shopping, AND...I found the wedding ring that I lost about two years ago. Somehow it was up on the top shelf of my closet, pushed all the way to the back. I was doing some January cleaning, so I was up there with a ladder, and I moved some boxes and saw this sparkler there. I am absolutely baffled as to how it got there, but, hey, I'm glad to have it back. I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet, because the BHW has since replaced it with another ring.

Today I'm trying yet another look with this new stripe shirt I got for free from Talbots. The thin stripe of persimmon lends this whole shirt a bit of a coral vibe, even though the red is really pretty red. I thought I try it with this skirt and jacket today, and I rather liked how it turned out. Unfortunately, the jacket was a nightmare with this skirt, because the jacket has little hooks and eyes, and they kept catching on the lace in the skirt. Wear and learn!

Today I'm wearing my new stripe shirt from Talbots that I got for free. It's really too cold in my house for just a tee-shirt (something that my family frequently comments on, but, hey, isn't that WHY they invented sweaters????), so I added this Pepperdine tweed jacket just to keep me warm. It also made the perfect car coat while I ran about and did errands today. I've had this jacket for two years, and this is the first time I've cut the tags off. Isn't that awful? I've decided that I need to start thinking of my jackets as more of removable layers -- otherwise I never wear them.
This is my last day off. Monday it is back to work!

I am trying to branch out a little here and try this jacket with something I've never tried it with before. This tweed actually has a lot of the burgundy color in it, so I wore it with my burgundy cords and added a chambray shirt as a neutral. I thought this turned out very well.

Today we had a noticeable change in our fall weather. It was rainy and the temps were down in the 50s. It felt like the perfect time to wear this sweater and tweed skirt combination. I would like to try to wear more scarves this year, so I added a scarf rather than a necklace here. Some lovely saffron tights made a nice transition between the sweater and the skirt and shoes.

Today was a very busy day, what with me leading the music for the Primary Sacrament Meeting Program and DD #2 having her 21st birthday.
I went with this Fringe Tweed Skirt and a lovely Talbots cashmere sweater in a pumpkin shade. I added the velveteen jacket in an even darker rust tone, and finished the look with tights -- yes, the first wear of the year -- and matching suede pumps. This color combination always gets a million compliments -- it's just soooo rich.

I've worn this combination before, and it's a favorite. I added some fun bling to dress up the slightly dressed down outfit.
I've been wearing these navy loafers from Talbots to death lately with my new pledge to only wear extremely comfortable shoes to school. I actually came very close to donating these to the DI a while back (loafers felt out of style), but now that they are back in a big way, I'm so glad I didn't.
