Summer Wear

So I've been trying not to spend the whole summer in yoga pants and a tee shirt.

April 6 - 13, 2015

This was Spring Break week, so not much was happening. I had great plans to get a few things done, but some of those went by the wayside. (We spent most of our Saturday fixing our washing machine -- it's things like that that end up getting our attention sometimes.) Everything here is very kick back, which was fine with me.

We went super casual for New Year's Eve last night -- just meeting with the family and enjoying some board games. Today we had our traditional New Year's Day open house where we invite every one we know, put out a lot of food, and play games all day. It was a lot of fun. This is what I wore, along with Harry Mason earrings and slipper sox. I ordered this Talbots sweater after Christmas with a GC and amazingly got it in time to wear for New Years!

Now to the news for the year. I love this blog and spend a lot of time on it -- probably too much. I have other things I need to be involved with -- I have a novel mapped out that needs to get written, a guitar to play, school and classes, and family. So -- I am going to limit my posting to once a week for the rest of the year. I may post several outfits on the day I post, or I may just post my favorite -- I'm not sure. I'll still be dressing fiercely, so don't worry about that! I think this will lead to a better overall year for me while still allowing me to have the creative outlet that this gives me.

Thanks for reading and have an amazing year in 2015!

Today was a very relaxed Christmas -- with no little kids around to wake us up we didn't get up until 8:30. Everyone got something fun, and then we spent the next part of the day enjoying time together as a family. I even got a nap, nobody complained too much about not having our traditional bacon (the BHW and I have gone vegan/vegetarian; the kids are reluctantly on board), the BHW got to play a lot of board games, and peace and love abounded. This cute plaid shirt made for the perfect Christmas day shirt. To make things even more fun, the BHW wore his sort of matching shirt -- we were a matched set!

We have a family tradition of all getting PJs on Christmas Eve, so here is what I was wearing this evening. It was the perfect comfort style to wear during our famous circle of love with the family -- sharing why we love and appreciate each different member. Merry Christmas!

Well, the inexorable head cold that I always seem to get this time of year is back. Darn it. Anyway, this sweater outfit kept me cozy all day.

BYU plays Memphis in the Miami Beach Bowl today; this is what I'm wearing to root on the team. This is also what I'll be wearing as I run around to do the last of my Christmas shopping.

This is what I wore to go see Interstellar with the BHW and the kids today. I don't know that it was my favorite movie ever -- it was a little long. It was definitely interesting in some spots, while it dragged in others.

This is what I wore for a day of mostly house cleaning and errand running (so I actually spent most of the day in socks rather than those styling boots).
As I was out erranding about, I ran into one of my fellow LJHS teachers working at Home Depot. It made me sad to think that he was having to work during his time off in order to provide for his family. We need to pay our teachers more!! Okay, off my soapbox now.

Well, my cold has fully settled into my head, and I have a lovely canker sore to go with it. Arghhh... Anyway, today was extremely casual. Originally we thought we'd go to a movie, but we stayed in and enjoyed second Thanksgiving. The DD and her husband cooked everything, so that was awfully nice.

I really have a lot to be thankful for this year
-- my shoulder is doing really well, I'm almost through with the TELL endorsement, I have a fantastic aide at school, I love my job 95% of the time, I have a wonderful, caring husband, and of course, I have four irreplaceable children who I love very much.

I'm going very casual here. I'm not sure how long the puffer will stay on -- I keep our house very cool, but with 22 people here, it could get pretty hot pretty fast.

So it's the first day of my vacation, so of course I have a head cold!! Argh. Anyway, today I thought I would copy this look from Economy of Style. I only wish I had her lovely striped scarf, but the one I added is pretty colorful. Today is last minute errands before Thanksgiving Day.

This, honestly, is what I wore all day today. I have been crazy busy the last week or so, what with the UCTE conference presentation and the culminating project for my night class. I spent the whole day today lounging about in my pajamas. Hey, it happens.

I've been feeling under the weather all week. Normally I would go ahead and teach anyway because it's so much work to get a sub. Today I decided to go ahead and get a sub because I was going to have one tomorrow because I am presenting at the UCTE conference. I figured I already had to do a sub plan, so why not take a day to try to feel better and have more time to prepare for the conference. Anyway -- I did and consequently spent the day in grubbies. If I had got dressed today, this outfit might have been fun to try -- I do love mint or turquoise with red -- it's just so cheerful. Have I told you how much fun I've been having lately on Polyvore creating outfit combinations from clothes I have? It's rather addicting.

This is what I wore on a very lazy day around the house. I firmly believe in taking it easy as much as possible on break days. This plaid shirt is what I ended up using my last Banana Republic $10 credit on. The fit isn't amazing, but the color is good and it's comfy and warm, and hey, it was only $5.

This is what I wore for a day of relaxing around the house and enjoying my first day of fall break. Of course, yesterday it was 80 degrees, and today it is much cooler. I was a little cold outside in this.

I love General Conference weekend. Life is so relaxed, and there is always a talk or two that I really love. President Uchtdorf is always my favorite, and I really loved President/Elder Holland's talk, too. (I still think of him as president from back in my BYU days.) My mom and dad were in town for a mission reunion, so I dressed up a little more than I usually do to watch -- my Loft mitered maxi skirt and one of my dyed green tees. I added the earrings that the BHW gave me for my birthday -- I didn't have the heart to tell him that he'd already bought me the same pair a few years ago. Ha.

June 16-20, 2014

I've noticed that I tend to gravitate to pink, blue, green and orange in the summer (and red, too, but not as much, surprisingly). Many of these items (the blue crops, the pink button-up, the pink tee, the green shorts, the black shorts, and the green tee) are items I recently dyed. Fun stuff.

I've Got eBay....

I enjoy shopping on eBay. I've found some great deals on clothing there. Lately I've been trying to pare down what I have and get rid of colors that are pretty but not pretty on me, so I am selling on eBay. This isn't the first time -- I sold some things when I originally dropped 3 sizes, but I've been listing two or three things a day lately. Some things languish with few looks, others get snapped right up. I'm generally pricing to sell. At this point, I want to get the things out of my house, and if I make 5 or 10 dollars back in the process, it doesn't feel like such a waste of money. My favorite way to list is starting cheap with a buy it now price about $10 more and offer free shipping (I just add it to the starting price). As far as shipping goes, I just save the plastic bags and shipping bags and padded envelopes I get from other things and reuse them. If anyone is interested in checking out what I have for sale, my eBay name is more_flower_power.
Here's how I've done this last week:
The bracelet I won in a blog give away, and it just wasn't my style -- profit $16. The stripe shirt I paid 12 dollars for -- profit $5. The liberty print shirt in Wiltshire I paid $28 for, so profit $8. The leather skirt I paid $35 for, so it was a wash. I've had the bangles and never wore them because they were too big and jingly, so I was just glad to pack them off for a little cash. The flower bead necklace was free, so I made $17 on it. Not bad.
