Reminiscing on Changing Tastes

When I first started this blog about three years ago, I was really into Talbots and Chicos. Now I find myself buying more J. Crew, but I don't always love their styles either. One thing I do love is their liberty print shirts. I am rather fascinated by this new print, to the point that I actually ordered this Liberty Print Popover in Floral Eve so I could try it out for sizing. I'm a real sucker for botanicals.

I think over the summer I will just post on Sundays or on days where I actually do something besides muck around in the garden. I teach, so I have the summer off, and I won't be dressing up too much -- mostly jeans, shorts and t-shirts.
This necklace is one I just picked up from J. Crew Factory at its 50% off sale. I returned the crystal cupcake one (a prong fell off) and got this one in return. I think it was a pretty good trade.

You can tell it's the last week of school, and I'm getting a little frazzled. This is what I wore on Sunday to church and then again to school on Monday. One less thing to think about = good. This micro-tweed jacket is a new purchase, and I'm finding that I'm rather fond of it. It looks like a jacket but feels like a comfy sweater.

Being a teacher does have its days. As a yearbook class, we designed t-shirts, and today was the day we were supposed to wear them. The thing is, I'm short. This tee shirt is super long -- so long that it looked positively weird with pants. So, I decided to go crazy and wear it with a skirt. I kind of liked how it turned out (although I probably won't wear this again except for working in the garden and running). Each little meeple on the shirt represents a member of the yearbook staff. I'm the curly haired lady in the middle with a microphone and a book.

Pining for Paisley

I've been looking for this particular skirt for a while. I saw one the other day that sold for $70, but frankly, I won't pay that much for a skirt on eBay. It's just not worth it to me. So...I saw this one and decided to bite on it, even though it is a 12 and I wear a 6. I figure I can spend an hour altering it, especially now that I'll have a lot of time over the summer.

Today I went with my Michelle Obama skirt from Talbots, and a very old printed tee from Dress Barn. I mean really old, like around ten years old. I did like these two together though.
One funny thing. Today one of my students said, "Mrs. T. you look really good today. And I have to tell you, that when I first started in your class at the beginning of the year, I was reading The Hunger Games, and every time I saw you, I was reminded of Effie Trinket." Ha. I told him I wasn't sure that was a compliment, or what.

Flower Lattice on the Cheap

When I first saw this flower lattice necklace at J. Crew, I was smitten and really wanted one. I just couldn't justify the $228 dollar price tag, though.

Then, a few weeks ago I saw instructions on how to make your own replica.

I gathered up some pins, and purchased a few on the cheap. While I was waiting for them to show up from China, I played around with a few design ideas.

This is what I ended up with. I don't have the two little pins hanging off the bottom because I couldn't get them to look good. The layers were just getting too tricky, or maybe my pins were just too bulky. Anyway, I can't wait to wear it with something!!!!

To Flat or Not to Flat?

So I recently picked up three pairs of flats. Two are from the J. Crew Factory (the pink and green ones - I think the style is Anya?), and the blue one is the Cece from J. Crew. After wearing both styles, I have found that the factory one is much, much more comfortable. Who would have thought? Anyway, they were all pretty inexpensive, and I hope to get a good deal of use out of them.
(What is that in the far left shoe? Well, like many people, I have one leg that is about 1/4 inch longer than the other. It didn't bother me until I hit 40, but ever since then, I have worn a slight lift in my left shoe.)

Today I wore this mint stripe tee shirt with the mint skirt. I added the yellow jacket (which I love with the mint) but I didn't wear this at school -- too hot. I did wear this out to eat with the BHW at Christopher's tonight.

Although the weather was actually rather chilly and blustery today, I thought I would go with this spring-ish combination. Today is the first day of three days of state testing, so I wanted to wear something upbeat.
