It really is all in the eyes of the beholder...

Fin Kennedy is a young British playwright, whose play How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found is receiving its American premiere at Portland Center Stage. The theater brought him to Portland for the opening of the show, which turned out to be his first trip to the U.S.

Today, Fin posted a completely engaging blog entry about that experience. Of course he talked about watching an American production of his play, and how surprising that was. In fact, it's the only time Fin has seen a second production of one of his plays, so he had a sort of double first with that.
But I also love his first discovery of America, and of Portland, and of American theater. All very limited impressions, obviously -- America, its cities, and its theaters are vastly varied. But to see these things through Fin's eyes and appreciation is refreshing, and affirming, as we are experiencing such tough times in the arts and, of course, in the country in general.
