Peppa Pig, PAW Patrol and Blaze and the Monster Machines Among China’s Top Kids Content Imports In 2024

A new report from Midolala ranks Youku as the region's leading streamer for children's content, with more than 250 titles released last year.

Peppa Pig, PAW Patrol and Kung Fu Panda were among China’s most-watched foreign kids franchises last year, according to a new report from Midolala, a Paris-based distributor that specializes in the Chinese market, Kidscreen is reporting.

This International Children’s Content in China and In-Depth Market Analysis breaks down kids content viewership trends on four major Chinese platforms (Tencent, Youku, iQIYI and Mango TV), as well as spotlighting international programs that have been successful in the region.

All told, the streamers debuted 550 kids titles last year, including original launches and new seasons. Nearly half of these rollouts took place on Youku (253), followed by iQIYI (121), Tencent (115) and Mango TV (60).

Youku also led the pack by a wide margin in international kids content launches at 63 (up by roughly 50% from 2023), putting it well ahead of iQIYI (31), Tencent (25) and Mango TV (12). But all four platforms released more imports in 2024 compared to the previous year, with Tencent recording a 90% uptick.

However, Midolala founder Manya Zhou warns that this trend may not necessarily continue. “In 2025, Chinese platforms are likely to adopt more cautious strategies for content acquisition, which may result in fewer releases of international children’s shows,” she says, adding that Youku seems poised to remain the leading platform.

“Moreover, platforms will focus on co-productions with domestic studios, driven by cost efficiency and their ability to meet local market demands effectively,” says Zhou, who expects to see more domestic programming dominance this year. Midolala is also forecasting a rise in popularity for mecha (stories that feature robots and mechanical beings) and girl-skewing content—two of the three best-performing kids genres in 2024, topped only by adventure-comedies.

Based on a measurement of peak popularity (the highest level of engagement achieved after a program’s release), Midolala’s report ranks 2024’s top three international kids titles on each platform as follows:

Midolala notes that the 10th season of Peppa Pig was the best-performing international title overall. But Spin Master’s PAW Patrol season 10 took the lead in other metrics, such as average daily popularity (total engagement divided by the number of days on the platform) on iQIYI. And Mango TV—which was the only platform that shared viewership data—recorded 440 million views for PAW Patrol‘s 10th season, compared to 200 million for Peppa Pig‘s.

Battersea Power Station Welcomes 'Transformers' and 'Peppa Pig' Stores

Celebrating their 40th and 20th anniversaries respectively, Transformers and Peppa Pig are beloved global brands with fanbases that straddle generations.

Event Merchandising, in collaboration with Hasbro, a leading toy and game company, has announced the November opening for the first permanent, standalone brick-and-mortar Transformers and Peppa Pig retail stores at Battersea Power Station in London, UK. The shops will be located side by side in London’s Battersea Power Station mall.

Boasting 2,000-square-foot, the Transformers store offers something for fans of all ages with the latest products and entertainment across films, comics, toys and games. Featuring designated areas representing the vast Transformers universe, this will be one of the biggest destination stores for Transformers in the U.K. and will display some of the products currently on the market, all under one roof. 

Consumers will be taken through Transformers’ 40-year history with nostalgic and bespoke features that show shoppers the store has been crafted with their entertainment and enjoyment in mind. With a full graffiti mural displaying the Transformers robots and Battersea Power Station created by MurWalls, the store at Battersea will also feature an exclusive, limited-edition cover of Skybound Entertainment’s award-winning Transformers comics. 

The immersion continues as consumers walk through the store and can demo Transformers video games and the Transformers AR Trading Card game by Vanch Studios, introducing an Augmented Reality element to the traditional collectible card games. Transformers at Battersea Power Station will feature the latest collectible figurines from Hasbro and live demonstrations of Robosen Transformers Series robots, with voice-activated transformations at the customer’s commands. In addition, several photo ops are available, from statues to retro packaging and an Autobot faction display suspended in the air above the store floor, comprised of hundreds of Transformers pieces. 

The store also features several graphic choices and classic designs that pay tribute to the Transformers franchise. There will also be film content via the upcoming Transformers One film and figurine collections available. 

Adjacent to the Transformers store, Battersea Power Station invites consumers into the world of Peppa Pig. Every corner of the Peppa Pig store is designed to bring to life Peppa’s world from the animated preschool television series.  

Boasting 2,800 square feet of floor space, this store has been curated to bring the best of Peppa’s world onto the shelves, from clothing and accessories to imagination and play. Customers will be able to shop across a broad range of British brand collaborations, including Emma Bridgewater (housewares), Trotters London (apparel) and Hummingbird Bakery (baked goods), as well as Trunki with its playful ride-along suitcases.

Located in London, Peppa’s home market, the Peppa Pig store will offer an exclusive range of London-themed products, including introducing Battersea Power Station in Peppa’s world. A bespoke edition of Penguin Publishing’s Peppa Goes to London story book has been updated and refreshed to include Battersea, as well as featuring the character of the King for the first time in any Peppa Pig product. 

Alongside one of the best arrays of Peppa Pig products in the U.K., the store will include interactive elements such as opportunities to sit in the driver’s seat of the Ty plush London bus, be photographed against the backdrop of  Battersea Power Station, brought to life in the style of Peppa’s world, jump around on the pretend muddy puddles or play and learn with the many Peppa Pig toys and games to be found around the store. A soft play seating area allows for time to chill, read a book or watch what’s happening on the Peppa stage, where episodes of the Peppa Pig series will play throughout the day on a giant screen. 

The Peppa Pig store will feature daily free meet-and-greet appearances with Peppa herself, where a hug and a photo are just part of the fun of a family day out at Battersea Power Station. 

The Transformers and Peppa Pig stores will open in November at Battersea Power Station (Circus Rd W, Nine Elms, London SW11 8DD, U.K.). More details will be announced soon.

Event Merchandise’s goal was to create a blend between a shopping destination and an immersive experience that offers both “an opportunity to play with and experience products before buying [them] and to create a lasting memory,” says Warren Traeger, head of partnerships. 

The UK has a pretty strong toy market that generated US$4.6 billion in total sales last year, a 5% decrease from 2022, according to Circana. Licensed toys played a key role, driving a record-setting 32% of all 2023 toy sales.

The Transformers and Peppa Pig stores will open in November 2024 at Battersea Power Station (Circus Rd W, Nine Elms, London SW11 8DD, United Kingdom). More details will be announced soon.

Hasbro‘s Peppa Pig and Pudsey have sparked a new friendship for this year’s BBC Children in Need campaign with a heartwarming and fun-filled partnership aimed at raising vital funds to support children and families across the UK.

BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be. For this to happen they want every child to have someone they can turn to for help or support to overcome challenges they face. The need has never been greater as, right now, the charity is only able to help 1 in 8 of the organisations which apply for funding.

This unique partnership intends to bring joy to children and their families through a series of exciting events and fundraising initiatives, starting this summer and continuing up until the official appeal night on 15th November.

Kicking off the partnership, nurseries and pre-schools across the UK are invited to join both Pudsey and Peppa in hosting their own fundraising parties in support of BBC Children in Need. To encourage fundraising, there are exclusive free Pudsey and Peppa resources available, including activity packs, party decorations, a specially curated Peppa Pig playlist and chances to win more prizes, all designed to inspire and encourage children to get involved and make a positive impact through their fundraising efforts. The event is just one example of how Peppa Pig is supporting families by creating joyful, memorable moments while underscoring the importance of Children in Need’s mission to change children’s lives across the UK.

'Peppa Pig', 'Doctor Who' and 'Thunderbirds' Actor David Graham Passes Away Aged 99

David Graham, the actor who provided the voice for characters in TV series including Peppa Pig, Thunderbirds and Doctor Who, has sadly passed away, aged 99.

As the voice behind the evil Daleks in Doctor Who, Graham terrified successive generations of children between the 1960s and late 70s.

He was also well known as the voice of Aloysius Parker, the butler and chauffeur in 1960s TV series Thunderbirds and its film sequels.

But to today's generation of children, he will be most familiar as the voice of Grandpa Pig in the animated preschool series Peppa Pig.

The character, married to Granny Pig and the father of Mummy Pig and Aunt Dottie, was referred to as "Papa Ig" by his young grandson George.

On-screen, Graham appeared in two episodes of the first series of Doctor Who as an actor, but became much better known as the unemotional, harsh voice of the Daleks.

In an interview with the Mirror in 2015, external about voicing the Daleks, Graham recalled: “I created it with Peter Hawkins, another voice actor.

“We adopted this staccato style then they fed it through a synthesiser to make it more sinister.”

As well as voicing Parker for the futuristic children's puppet series Thunderbirds, he also played the show's pilot Gordon Tracy, and Brains the engineer, between 1965 and 1966.

He reprised the role of Parker for an ITV remake of the show in 2015, called Thunderbirds Are Go! and was the only original cast member to return.

Parker, famous for saying "Yes m'lady", worked for Lady Penelope, who was played in the more recent version by Saltburn star and ex-Bond actor Rosamund Pike.

Graham said at the time: "I am triple chuffed to be on board the new series... and reprising my role of dear old Parker with such a distinguished cast.

"My driving skills are in good nick and I am delighted to be behind the wheel again with m'lady."

He told The Mirror that the show's creator, Gerry Anderson, had helped with the inspiration for Parker's voice back in the 1960s.

“Gerry took me to lunch because he wanted me to hear the voice of somebody, a wine waiter,” the actor said.

“He had been a butler to the former Prince of Wales.

“He said, ‘Would you like to see the wine list sir?’ and that was the birth of Parker.

"I just made him a bit more villainous. I’m not sure the guy ever knew – he might have demanded a royalty!”

Anderson's son, the TV producer Jamie Anderson, said Graham was "always kind and generous with his time and talent".

He said in a statement: "Just a few weeks ago, I was with 2,000 Anderson fans at a Gerry Anderson concert in Birmingham where we sang him happy birthday - such a joyous occasion.

"And now, just a few weeks later, he's left us."

He added: "From the Daleks to Grandpa Pig and numerous voices for Anderson shows including Brains, Gordon Tracy and the iconic Parker. He will be sorely missed."

The official account of Gerry Anderson, who died aged 83 in 2012, said on X: "David was always a wonderful friend to us here at Anderson Entertainment.

"We will miss you dearly, David. Our thoughts are with David's friends and family."

The actor, who was born in London, told The Mirror he knew early on which career he wanted to pursue.

“At school I always wanted to say the poem or read the story. I always wanted to act,” he told the newspaper.

He had to postpone his acting interests when World War Two happened, however, and worked as a radar mechanic.

But afterwards, having not enjoyed his post-war work as an office clerk, he joined his sister and her American GI husband in New York, where he attended a theatre school.

After returning home, he worked in repertory theatre before getting work the first Doctor Who series.

Graham was also a member of Lawrence Olivier’s company at the National Theatre.

His long career also included providing the voice for Wise Old Elf and Mr Gnome for Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, shown in the UK on Nick Jr. and Channel 5's Milkshake!. He also provided voices for characters for ITV's Stingray, also created by Gerry Anderson, and The Tomorrow People.

He also had brief appearances in ITV's Coronation Street, The Bill and London's Burning and BBC dramas Doctors and Casualty.

Victury Sports Plays Catch with Hasbro For Peppa Pig, Transformers and Furby Ollyballs

The company will manufacture a range of licensed Peppa Pig, Transformers and Furby Ollyballs, which kids can use to play sports indoors without breaking anything.

Hasbro has licensed Idaho-based toy company Victury Sports to develop a new range of licensed sports balls featuring its iconic toy franchises. 

Ollyball, created by inventor and founder Joseph Burke, allows kids to color in the waterproof ball with markers and crayons.

Victury won a 2019 Toy of the Year award for Ollyball, which is designed for full-speed indoor play. This innovative ball weighs less than an ounce and absorbs impact and force through Victury’s patented KrunchCOR material. The product’s hook is “Play Ball in the House!” because it is meant to spare windows and other breakable items in the home. Kids can also customize its surface using markers to color in pre-printed graphics.

As a Hasbro partner, Victury will manufacture and distribute Peppa PigTransformers and Furby-branded Ollyballs. The company is planning to give the industry a first look at this licensed range at the LA Fall Toy Preview event in September, where it’s hoping to sign new licensors and retailers. 

The licensed Peppa PigTransformers and Furby Ollyballs will be available for purchase soon at select retailers across the U.S.

Ollyball x Hasbro Licenses

“This collaboration will bring even more joy and innovation to our worldwide beloved colorable and patented playthings, further cementing Ollyball’s status as a must-have toy for children everywhere,” says Burke. “Get ready for a whole new level of games, education, surprises and ‘full-force indoor play’ from Ollyball.”

Victury signed its first licensing agreement last year with the NBA to make team edition Ollyballs featuring Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, New York Nicks and Golden State Warriors graphics. The company’s other products include glow-in-the-dark Ollyballs.

Hasbro Launches 'Peppa Pig’s Play-A-Long Podcast'

In an exclusive deal with Audible, Peppa Pig’s Play-A-Long Podcast has six episodes that will inspire pre-schoolers’ confidence and foster their development.

Hasbro has launched Peppa Pig’s Play-A-Long Podcast, the first release as part of an exclusive podcasting deal with Audible, which is now streaming on the platform. Pre-schoolers and families can join Peppa Pig’s world with a mix of fun interactive games, outdoor adventures and catchy sing-alongs with Peppa’s new band, The Piggy-Wigs. Each of the six episodes spans 15 minutes, providing another medium for Peppa to inspire pre-schoolers’ confidence and foster their development.

Themes in the podcast, including ‘Are We There Yet?’, an episode supporting pre-schoolers on long journeys, and an episode about anger titled, ‘Very Big Feelings’, are designed specifically to help families with pre-schoolers recognise and navigate their big emotions. As the beloved animated show celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, Hasbro and Audible will bring Peppa and her diverse playgroup to a whole new world of audio-first entertainment with rich storytelling for all family listening occasions, reaffirming Peppa’s commitment to providing quality entertainment for families.

Episode 2: Are We There Yet?

Peppa uses fun songs and sound-based games to pass the time on a really long drive, as listeners try to figure out where they’re going.

Episode 3: 1…2….3….Ding

Peppa Pig is about to perform with her newly-formed band called The Piggy-Wigs, but Suzy Sheep is feeling nervous. Listeners will play-a-long with the music-based games and help Peppa show Suzy there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Episode 4: Tiny Crawly Creatures

Peppa Pig’s family picnic has been interrupted by ants. Peppa and George wonder what life is like inside an ant hill.

Episode 5: Very Big Grown-ups

Listeners will visit Peppa’s friends at Playgroup and take a trip to Granny and Grandpa Pig’s house, as Peppa tries to figure out what the grown-ups in her life do when she’s not around, what kind of job she might like when she’s a grown-up, and even what she may be like as a Granny herself.

Episode 6: Not Tired

Peppa and George are having a sleepover at Granny and Grandpa Pig’s house. Listeners will settle in for a cozy wind down to a good night’s rest, as Peppa, George, Granny and Grandpa Pig help listeners brush their teeth with a song, lead them on a play-a-long story game and teach them about how to make sure they get a full night’s sleep.

Peppa Pig Releases 'Piggle Wiggle' Single and Music Video

The latest Peppa Pig single and music video Piggle Wiggle is available to stream across all platforms.

In the pre-school icon’s newest track Piggle Wiggle, Peppa brings her signature charm and infectious energy to the dance floor. Piggle Wiggle is set to a lively beat and captures the fun of dancing together with friends, with a catchy chorus and playful yet encouraging lyrics.

The track was written and produced by Grammy winning producer, DJ White Shadow along with Jay Diggs, Anthony Watts and Kaeyra, adding Peppa to the list of A-list stars the team has worked with.

The new single is available to stream now on all digital streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music.

Lego Duplo Peppa Pig Mobile App Available Now

StoryToys, The Lego Group and Hasbro have partnered to create the Lego Duplo Peppa Pig app for Peppa’s 20th anniversary.

StoryToys has announced the arrival of the new Lego Duplo Peppa Pig app, with Peppa Pig and her friends and family making their way to the colourful world of Lego Duplo. Now available on the App Store and Google Play, the app is bursting with fun gameplay, building and creativity, just in time for Peppa’s 20th Anniversary.

While little ones are busy splashing in virtual muddy puddles and giggling with Peppa, they’ll also be learning lots of new things. With the Lego Duplo Learning Through Play approach, kids will play and learn through an adventure that encourages imagination and exploration with the adorable characters of Peppa Pig.

Blending the worlds of Lego Duplo and Peppa Pig, this app offers a new digital experience. Little builders can interact with their favourite characters and locations in exciting new ways, creating endless fun and laughter. Each pack in the app is set in a different location from the familiar world of Peppa Pig. Play packs at launch include Garden Treehouse, Boat Trip and Peppa’s Birthday Party, all packed full of fun and learning.

In the Peppa’s Birthday Party pack, little builders join Peppa, George and her friends Suzy Sheep and Pedro Pony for an exciting birthday celebration at Peppa’s house. In the Garden Treehouse, Peppa and George have a fun-filled adventure exploring and playing outside in the garden. Fans can set sail with Peppa and Grandpa Pig on a maritime adventure visiting many islands in the Boat Trip pack.

New content will be regularly added to the app for ongoing fun and play.

Encouraging confidence and igniting playfulness, Peppa’s Dance Party will deliver engaging in-person and virtual play experiences for preschoolers and their families across the globe.
