Art Friday: Washing Day
Washing day
Wash on Monday,
Iron of Tuesday,
Mend of Wednesday,
Churn on Thursday,
Clean on Friday,
Bake on Saturday,
Rest on Sunday.
Sometimes the ordinary and mundane have a quiet beauty we haven't really taken much notice of. Today's art is all about the washing on the line and some of these paintings are quite striking.
All quotes used today are by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Enjoy.
"I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet,
simple things of life which are the real ones after all."
"Home is the nicest word there is"
"The true way to live is to enjoy every moment as it passes, and surely it is in the everyday things around us that the beauty of life lies"
3 & 12 ! There is something lovely & whimsical about both of those.
ReplyDeleteThanks heaps for dropping by. Hope you haven't been having that horrible weather in Qld - been thinking about you with all that heat.
DeleteI just loved that whole post. We didn't have a dryer growing up, so it really takes me back. It's too dusty where I live now to have a clothesline, but I remember the smell of sun dried sheets on a summer's evening, and there is nothing quite like it.
ReplyDeleteI was only thinking this morning after I posted this that I hadn't mentioned the smell of sun dried sheets - nothing nicer and not one you get from a drier.
DeleteThanks for dropping by:))
Hello, I just loved this! I love to do laundry and I love to iron!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures were really lovely, I saved a couple of the to my pics...
I enjoyed featuring your Blog! Hope you have gotten a few visitors from it :)
Always, Roxy
Thanks Roxy - as I said on your blog, you are a darling:))) Things are tough at the moment and those sorts of acts of kindness really do make all the differences.
DeleteI like to wash, even hand washing but I am not a fan of ironing!
I think my favourites are the grandma/granddaughter sudso one, and the jeans one (maybe because of the cow in the background)... :)
ReplyDeleteI love hanging washing outside - there's something really nice about standing outside with the breeze blowing as you hang the washing in the sun. Haven't been able to hang our washing outside for the past couple days because of the cool wet weather, though! But very thankful for the rain!! Looks like the heat is heading your way shortly, Jo - enjoy the cool weather while it lasts if it's still cool down there! I read somewhere that the heatwave we had here went from us across the west and has tracked its way down to S.A. and will head up to you after that. :/
I often hang my washing out in the evening in summer to avoid too much sun as that isn't good for some fabrics and things like undies with elastic waists. I also hang my bras inside to make them last longer.
DeleteYes we are about to get the hot weather from SA next week, particular on Wednesday when I will be running about in the car. At least it will ripen my tomatoes that are taking forever to turn red as the weather has been too cold for them!!
Beautiful post! Hanging out laundry is such a pleasure in the summer is such a pleasure.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog!
May you have a blessed day!
-Sarah
