if separated, will form no exception to the rule: or
if the custom under discussion prevails, the old law

of the language will disappear. (This law is more
difficult for the Greeks to observe, because they
have several dialects, as they call them, and what is
wrong in one may be right in another.) But with us
the rule is simplicity itself.
