The Hydrant at the corner of Main and 13th streets.
--Our neighbor of the Enquirer, referring to the admonition from the proper officer against a waste of water to the attention to the "plug at the corner of Main and 13th streets," and begs that it be stopped, since it wastes more water in a day and night than will supply the city for three days! This "plug" being one of the very few"plugs" that are respectable, and having stood by us ever since we stood where we are we feel bound to stand by it and endeavor to save it from being stopped. Such a penalty would be unjust and order alike to mankind and horsekind. This "plug" is not a wasteful individual, but is doing a large business upon his own private resources purely for the good of men and horses. He has no connection with the city water works, but draws his supplies entirely from the Basin, and therefore more affects the supply from the water works by his operations than if they were extracted directly from the skies. The Enquirer is too benevolent and considerate to wish to do injustice to a public benefactor, and knew not these facts, or it could not have proposed to stop the refreshing stream which our plug is dispensing during the hot summer, and which is so grateful to passengers, whether on two or four feet.
