--The sitting magistrate had but few cases before him yesterday, and he dispatched them with an assiduity truly commendable. Barney Maguire was brought up for being tight and noisy in the street the previous night. The unfortunate man was pardoned his indiscretion and went on his way rejoicing, with a caution not to come in contact with the law any more.Marths Cardona, an unfortunate lunatic, was arraigned for assailing her daughter and child, and cutting the latter's hand. Proof of her insanity being indisputable, she was retained to be examined before a board of magistrates.
A Behan was brought up for sawing down Miss Valentine' fence. She had him arrested on Thursday evening for an assault. Both were admonished to keep clear of each other, and discharged. Behan (a Deutsche) went away grinning, believing it was a ‘"big thing" ’--a good joke on Valentine.
Joseph Herb, a soldier, was arraigned for stealing money from a comrade in arms. The latter did not appear, and Herb was allowed to go off.
