Arrival of the President — a personal reconnaissance — Movements and Vandalism of the enemy.

Fairfax C. H., Oct. 2.--The President arrived night before last. Yesterday, escorted by the Adams Troop, of Mississippi, he made a personal reconnaissance in the vicinity, and towards the outposts.

At Beauregard's headquarters, the rain today prevented a general review of the troops by the President. He was greeted, however, by the soldiers, wherever he appeared, with enthusiasm.

The Yankees advance cautiously, and hold Falls Church, and press our lines near Annandale. A large volume of smoke is seen towards Falls Church. I learn that the old church, which was built prior to the Revolution, was burnt last night.
