Paper suppressed in Cincinnati.
--The following is from the Cincinnati Press:‘ The Rev. Sabin Hough, of this city, a clergyman of Swedenborgian persuasion, was arrested yesterday upon a charge of treason, and an edition of the Banner of Reunion, a journal in the publication of which he is engaged, seized and suppressed.
’ The following is said to be the incendiary article that appeared in the paper. It told the naked truth, and it had to go under:
‘ "There is no need of this war, nor any reason why it should continue. It cannot and will not bring back the States that have withdrawn, but every stroke of war drives them farther away. Let us, then, with one voice, and a voice that will be heard and obeyed, demand of our rulers that the whole machinery of war shall as quickly as possible take the position of defence in behalf of the States that remain in the Union; also, in defence of Washington and other property still held by the Federal Government, and not in those seceded States. The war, assuming this aspect, would instantly command the sympathies of the civilized world, which we are now rapidly losing. We should then be in a position to repel an invasion, if attempted; but no such aggression would be thought of. The way for peaceable negotiation will be opened at once, and both parties will find the way preparing for a permanent re-union unjust and equitable principles."
