April 11.--The President received a letter from St. Louis directed to “Old Abe or any other man.”
On one side was the Confederacy flag, on the other the seal and flag of the United States, with the words “played out.”
Inside was a five-dollar note on the Union Bank of South Carolina, “to help pay the expenses of reinforcing Fort Sumter.” --Times, April 12.
