Timothy Lewis
Born June 19 in Pontypridd, Wales to a family of musicians. His grandfather being a conductor and mother, Dorothy Lewis an opera singer. He was frequently taken to classical concerts from an early age and studied French horn, church organ and piano.
He had a strange band in school with odd combinations of instruments. Avant garde was normal to him even though he didn't care much for the concerts he went to. He has worked as a session musician for unmentionable acts as well as a recording engineer and spent 8 years working in a psychiatric hospital as a staff nurse. He eventually quit the day job.

As engineer, he met Julian Cope. They got along very well, both being Kraut-rock fans and Cope asked him to join his group. He has been a member of Spiritualized since 1997.

Also in 1997, John Balance met Thighpaulsandra at a concert. Both had been fans of each other and Balance asked him to join Coil. Balance says "He is a wonderful bright Pagan STAR in his own rite and I are very happy he accepted my invitation. Now we are 5 sided.

Pentagrammatical.

Complete."
His involvment with Coil lasted till the death of John Balance in 2004 when the group split up.

He severed connections with Cope in 2004 after Cope's homophobic reaction to the Double Vulgar album covers.
He continues to perform solo shows with the Thighpaulsandra group and is still an active member of Spiritualized

This man is not of this Earth. From (continuous) collaborations with Julian Cope’s band to Spiritualized and the mighty (though tragically defunct) Coil, Thighpaulsandra has acted as a spur for all around to go beyond their limitations. It is therefore understandable that his solo work also pushes envelopes seemingly beamed in from a different timeframe.
‘Chamber Music’, is no exception and both represents Lumberton Trading Company’s second release and a relationship we hope to see continue with some future work for the label.

This is the score to an interactive video installation by New York-based visual artist Daniel McKernan titled Is Evolution Evil?, which featured the world's #1 transsexual, Amanda Lepore. Thighpaulsandra has been a member of Queen Elizabeth (with Julian Cope), Spiritualized, and Coil and has released four full-length albums on his own. Amanda Lepore has recorded music with the Fatal Art Syndicate, has been featured on TV shows like Entertainment Tonight, and has a Swatch watch, "Time Tranny," which was at one point the fastest selling limited edition Swatch! Daniel McKernan took photographs and video of Amanda and combined them with music from Thighpaulsandra to create the exhibition which opened in June of 2005 in New York. Included as enhanced content is a video of the installation with narrative by McKernan, an essay on Is Evolution Evil?, and schematic. The music is three movements mixed by Thighpaulsandra into one long piece which is just as eerie and precious as a superstar like Amanda Lepore is.

Excellent blog. I was aware (and followed) the releases of many of the artists highlighted on your site. Of course, the best part is being enlightened about releases I did not know or didn't know much about. Thank you for that.

Hi, I really like your work with all the unavailable stuff on your blog, but have to kindly ask you to remove the Klanggalerie CDs that are still in print, like ie. The Clisto EP by Thighpaulsandra. I don't mind the out of print stuff, but I guess you and others will understand that labels won't be happy if available stuff is presented here for download. Thanks in advance for your help, Walter
