The Art Box
The Art Box is a six-CD box set by English avant-rock group Art Bears. It contains all Art Bears album and single releases, plus new material, including live and unreleased Art Bears tracks, and unreleased remixes and reworkings of Art Bears material by other musicians. The box set also contains a book of photographs, artwork, articles, interviews and commentary on the CD tracks, the work process, the band and their tour of Europe in 1979. The Art Bears material was recorded between 1978 and 1980, while the work by other musicians was recorded between 1998 and 2003. The box set was released in 2003. A double-CD entitled Art Bears Revisited containing Discs four and five of the box set was released in 2004.
Discs one, two and three are remastered versions (by Bob Drake) of the first three Art Bears albums, Hopes and Fears (1978), Winter Songs (1979) and The World as It Is Today (1981). Discs four and five, entitled Art Bears Revisited, contain remixed and reworked Art Bears pieces by various musicians, plus two Art Bears singles and an unreleased Art Bears track. Disc six contains more remixed and reworked Art Bears pieces by various musicians, including a 1984 cover of "The Song of Investment Capital Overseas" by Duck and Cover, plus five live Art Bears tracks, four of which were never officially released before.

The weather has created and shaped all our habitats. Clearly it also has a profound and dynamic effect upon our lives and that of other animals. The Galapagos Islands - An Audio Diary (2005)
"Recorded in April 2005 on The Galapagos Islands, 1000km off the west coast of Ecuador... During March this year Chris Watson was out in the Galapagos Islands recording for a forthcoming tv film series. In particular Chris made a series of recordings throughout the unique and highly specialised Galapagos habitats; from the mist shrouded Miconia zone at the higher altitudes of Santa Cruz down to the dense cactus and thorn scrub bordering the coast on smaller uninhabited islands. This trip was also the first opportunity for Chris to try out location surround sound recording both on land and then underwater, exploring the sonic potential below the surface of the Pacific Ocean with a four channel hydrophone array."

During December 2000 several significant storm fronts developed across the North Sea and Scandinavia.
Benny remarked to me that he had recorded some of these on the Baltic coast and proposed a collaborative CD project based around our mutual interests in the rhythms and music created when the elements combine over land and out to sea.
We spent the next few years gathering recordings on our respective coastlines and islands during the very active weather windows during the autumnal equinox and winter solstice. This was focused around our following one particular cyclonic system, which veers over Snipe Point on Lindisfarne to the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth, and finally descends upon Öland and Gotland where Benny listened in with a favourite pair of Sennheiser omnidirectional microphones.

Pantaleimon
PANTALEIMON (pan-ta-lay-mon) is the pseudonym of Andria Degens (dee-jens). The use of the name Pantaleimon was inspired by Lyra’s dæmon portrayed in the ‘Northern Lights’ trilogy by Philip Pullman.
Andria Degens was born on the 8th November in Caterham, Surrey, England and is descended from Dutch and Irish ancestry. Whilst in her early twenties, she took what she thought would be a brief trip around the globe, but it ended up lasting two and half years. During that long journey she experienced a series of epiphanies opening up another world to her . That world was the inspiration behind the music of Pantaleimon.
In the early nineties, Andria made little guest appearances with the band Wire (live at the Clapham Grand), Dirty Three (Andria appears on ‘Horse Stories’), and she has also contributed to the projects of Current 93 (‘Black Ships Ate The Sky’), Susan Stenger’s (Band of Susans) ‘Soundtrack For An Exhibition’, Irr. App. (Ext.), Nurse With Wound and Marc Pilley’s Hobotalk. Pantaleimon have also contributed music to Cam Archer’s film ‘Wild Tigers I Have Known’.

Black Ships Eat The Sky
David Tibet remarked as follows on the Durtro website at the time of this release:
"This is an absolutely alternative version of the 'Black Ships Ate The Sky' album.
All the tracks sung by me on this album are radically different mixes/versions of the tracks from the previously released standard version.
The versions of 'Idumea' tend to be the same, although Marc Almond's version [i.e. track 1] uses a totally different vocal take.
The 'alternative version' does sound very different indeed. Steven Stapleton and I worked on it for as long as we worked on the construction of the 'standard' version to make it a conceptual whole, not merely a collection of different mixes. This version was considered for being the 'proper' release of 'Black Ships Ate The Sky', which is to say that Steven, Colin [Potter] and I could not decide which was the most powerful and moving version. After we finished the Black Ships sessions we had 126 different mixes of 29 different songs, not including bridging sections.
Its order, and track titles, are the same as on the 'standard' version, with the exception of the track 'Why Cæsar Is Burning': on the standard '…Ate The Sky' edition we use Part 2 of the song, and on '…Eat The Sky' we use Part 1.
It is NOT the same as the 'I Am Black Ship' CD which was given to advance subscribers ONLY for 'Black Ships Ate The Sky', with the promise it would not be released in any other form, nor does it use any of the versions available on the above-mentioned 12 track CD, 'I Am Black Ship'.
All the printed text on this album is in Coptic, and the sleeve design is totally different to 'Black Ships Ate The Sky'."

The album tracks are named after those who did the respective remix of "Two Shaves And A Shine"
A couple of years ago David Tibet and I were moochin’ around the Virgin record store in Glasgow. David was patiently waiting for me as at that time I was feverishly into female MCs and I wanted to study the sleeves of all the CDs in the shop’s hip-hop section. “You’re on this,” he said, tapping me on the shoulder with a dance compilation in his hand, and sure enough, there it was: Nurse With Wound: Two Shaves and a Shine—remixed. So, somewhat surprised by this discovery I purchased a copy and promptly got in touch with the label who led me on a merry song and dance for over six months until I gave up, neither sending any copies or paying any royalties. The one thing they did give me was the idea of remixing ‘Two Shaves’, so when I was considering the extra material for the upcoming reissue of ‘An Awkward Pause’ (which had been out of print since the collapse of World Serpent Distribution several years back), the concept of supplying the essential ingredients of drums/bass/guitar and giving everybody a chance to fuck with the track and make their own versions really appealed to me. ‘El Duderino’ Mark Logan of Jnana then came up with the stroke of genius: a remix competition, open to everybody; first prize the original artwork from the front cover of this album. For three months, on my car stereo, I listened to over a hundred versions. I listened to them anonymously, not knowing who the remixers were, judging them on their own quirks and musical merits. It was so difficult to choose the versions that appear on this compilation as all entries were intriguing and full of cranky invention. Eventually I honed it down to these gems. Taken as a whole it’s quite an intense ride, especially as all the tracks are crossfaded into one mighty mother of a jam—enjoy! Steven Stapleton, Cooloorta, November 07
