Young'uns

So I was watching this video of a 9 years old girl who can sing the opera very well. Like, so well to a point that all my hairs stood on their ends through out the video. I am not going to write about that anyway, but seriously, she was sooo good.

Notice my key word : 9 years old, which is related to what I am going to write today.

I feel that people are, in general, easily amused by young age; the younger the achiever, the awesome-er their achievements. Put a 9 years old and a 20 years old playing an electric guitar to a Metallica song, and you will find yourself more amazed at the 9 years old person. Or put a 15 years old revert besides a 40 years old revert, you will find people flocking to share about the 15 years old rather than the latter.

What is the significance of 'age' anyway?

Which is why I find Allah's statement that He will measure a person only by 'taqwa', very comforting, because I know, He doesn't care that I embraced Islam at the age of 18 but rather what I do with the guidance that He gave me.

He doesn't care that a person is a prodigy, and even Ali r.a., who embraced Islam at 10 years old, made it seem like it was not a big deal and in the end what was he known for? His wisdom and his imaan.

I really dislike the trend these days, how easily people are icon-ized and lifted to be a 'celebrity', especially trending these days, hashtag Muslim celebrity, including yours truly. To be fair, I never wanted to be in this lowly web of fame and therefore I refused to be called one.

Claims like, "Gee, you're famous", "Celebrity blogger", yadda yadda, only repel me and I do not want to be part of this game, whatever game that life is playing on me.

Anyways, moving on, what I am trying to say is that, there are people who strive in their own time, and these people will not wow people, simply because, they are 'too old' to be amazing, but just the right age to be 'average'.

I have nothing against young talented people in whatever they do; but I really am baffled by the people who are too shallow to see beyond quantity.

So to my fellow 'average' young people, just do what you do best, and all in good time.

  3. Agreed! It's better to keep growing and continue to become more awesome the older you get rather than reach a certain peak in your life early and never go beyond that.

If my writing is cluttered and confusing, it's because I am a little wonky in the head right now...

My dad's turn

because ALLAH is with me.... Earlier today i was shocked by a text message sent to me from one of my aunt from my dad's side. "Why didn't you tell me that you've become a Muslim? Sampai hati tak bagitau, bukan perkara tak baik pun." This raised a question mark in my head. Who told her? She's a Muslim by the way. Then onwards, after a few exchanging text messages, i finally come to a realization. I have to tell my dad before he found out from someone else. That would be worst. So, i started to type on my cellphone. "Daddy, i've become a Muslim. Ever since i'm at KTT. I am telling you via sms so that you will be clear of why i am doing this and so that you will not hear this from other people who might exaggerate the story. I didn't become a Muslim because i have a boyfriend. Not because i was influenced by my friends. And also not because i wanted to join PAS. But because i have taken interest in Islam ever since i'm at...
