Συνέντευξη με τους Wolvennest 

H κυκλοφορία του VOID των Wolvennest ήταν μια από τις καλύτερες BlackMetal στιγμές μου για το 2019.Θα φιγουράρει σίγουρα στις υψηλές θέσεις με τους δίσκους τις χρονιάς και έχουν στρέψει τους προβολείς πάνω τους. Σήμερα θα προσπαθήσω να ζορίσω τον κιθαρίστα της μπάντας VON BURTLE CORVUS και να ξεκλέψω καμιά απάντηση. 

1.Καλησπέρα CORVUS. Κατ’ αρχάς θα ήθελα να σε ευχαριστήσω για αυτή τη mini- συνέντευξη. Ξέρω ότι τις αποφεύγετε, και ότι προτιμάτε να μιλάτε με τη μουσική σας. Ας περάσουμε στα πιο πρόσφατα.  Πως πάει η κυκλοφορία του VOID?

Αισθανόμαστε τυχεροί. Ανάμεσα σε μεγάλες μπάντες που παίξαμε στο φεστιβάλ του Roadburn, στο tour με τους Wolves In The Throne Room και σε μαγικές στιγμές που βιώσαμε σε άλλες occult τελετές. Η όλη εμπειρία του VOID ήταν κάτι αναπάντεχο. Επίσης έχουμε ξεκινήσει έναν νέο κύκλο στον οποίο ελπίζω το VOID να είναι μια καλή ανάμνηση.

2. Μια εξαμελής μπάντα με ετερόκλητους μουσικούς, πόσο εύκολο είναι να συνθέτει? Δουλεύει καλύτερα να είστε αυθόρμητοι ή σχολαστικοί? Ειδικά για εσάς που κάποιος μπορεί να αναγνωρίσει oriental, folk, synth 70΄στοιχεία.

Η διαδικασία ηχογράφησης είναι αυθόρμητη για κάποιους από εμάς, άλλοι βέβαια πρέπει να δουν την συνολική εικόνα έτσι ώστε να υλοποιήσουν τις ιδέες σε ένα άλμπουμ. Ο κάθε ένας έχει διαφορετικές ικανότητες και όρια, αλλά κάθε μέλος δίνει την προσωπική του νότα. Συχνά ξεκινάμε με μια βασική ιδέα η οποία εξελίσσεται σε χείμαρρο. Το πιο δύσκολο κομμάτι είναι να γίνει μίξη όλων των διαφορετικών στοιχείων, γι' αυτό ο ρόλος του Deha (παραγωγού) είναι πολύ σημαντικός στην εξίσωση.

3. Θα ακούτε συνέχεια ότι η μουσική σας μοιάζει τελετουργική, Occult. Αυτό είναι θέμα φιλοσοφίας? Παίζετε έτσι επειδή πρέπει, επειδή το έχετε μέσα σας ,επειδή το νιώθετε?

Η μουσική είναι ειλικρινής. Το ίδιο είναι και όλα τα άτομα που απαρτίζουν την μπάντα. Φαίνεται χαζό να πούμε "ίσως", αλλά αυτό κάνει όλη την διαφορά. Δεν έχουμε ατζέντα, ούτε λίστα,ούτε οικονομικές υποχρεώσεις, ούτε όρια, ούτε πίεση, ούτε εγωισμό. Αισθανόμαστε ελεύθεροι και ανεξάρτητοι όσων αφορά τους Wolvennest. Επίσης έχουμε την τύχη να συνεργαζόμαστε με μια εταιρία με την οποία έχουμε κοινές βλέψεις.

Το βλέπω σαν ένα μέρος όπου μπορούμε να συνδεθούμε με κάτι αρχαίο, αγνό, συμπαντικό. Πιστεύω ότι μου επιτρέπει να αποκοπω πνευματικά απ' ό,τι είναι σάπιο στο σύγχρονο κόσμο: την έλλειψη αλτρουισμού και αξιοπρέπειας, απ' οτιδήποτε εκκωφαντικό (σε όλες τις μορφές) , από τον προσηλυτισμό, τον ατομισμό και τα ακραία συναισθήματα.

4. H Sharon έχει δώσει μια πιο κινηματογραφική αισθητική στη μουσική σας. Είναι πολύ θετικό που βλέπουμε όλο και πιο συχνά front womansστο ΒΜ.  Σε ένα κοινό που ήταν αφιλόξενο προς το γυναικείο φύλο μέχρι τα τελευταία χρόνια. Πιστεύεις ότι οι οπαδοί του BlackMetal έχουν αλλάξει- ωριμάσει?

Η Shazzula είχε αποδοχή σε όλα μας τα show, ανεξάρτητα του κοινού: Black Metal,Psyche,Stoner,Doom,Ambient,mainstream shows κτλπ.  Ποτέ δεν μας έτυχε κάποια επιθετική ή χαζή αντίδραση σχετικά με το φύλλο της frontwoman. Πιστεύω ότι οι άνθρωποι έρχονται στις συναυλίες-τελετές με σκοπό να αποδράσουν από την σύγχρονη κοινωνία. Οπότε δεν έχει κανένα νόημα η διάκριση μεταξύ ανδρών και γυναικών στη μουσική, μόνο η αύρα του μουσικού και του καλλιτέχνη.

5. Επειδή το blog μας είναι πολιτικοποιημένο δεν θα μπορούσα- ήθελα να μην σας ρωτήσω αυτό. Πως βλέπετε τις εξελίξεις στο στρατόπεδο των Mgla μετά τις τελευταίες αποκαλύψεις περί διασυνδέσεων με άλλες φασιστικές μπάντες? 

Θα κρατήσω την γνώμη μου για εμένα, γιατί δεν θέλω να τροφοδοτήσω τις φήμες και τα trolls.

Καλή συνέχεια με τις περιοδείες θα θέλαμε πολύ να σας δούμε στην Ελλάδα.Α! και περιμένουμε νέο δίσκο από τους Cult of Erinyes, έτσι?

To νέο άλμπουμ των Cult of Erinyes θα κυκλοφορήσει στο τέλος του χρόνου από Amor Fati Productions. Οι Wolvennest θα κάνουν tour τον Φεβρουάριο με τους Saturnalia Temple και τους Dread Sovereign. Θα ανακοινώσουμε και άλλες συναυλίες αλλά και νέα σχετικά με επερχόμενα projects σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα.

Interview with Wolvennest

The album release “VOID” of Wolvennest was one of my best black metal moments in 2019. It will certainly be on the top albums of the year and they are in the limelight. Today I’ll try to pressure the band’s guitarist VON BURTLE CORVUS to steal some answers.

1.Hello CORVUS. Firstly, I would like to thank you for the mini interview. I know you’ve been avoiding them and that you prefer to talk through your music. Let’s move on to the latest. How is the release of the VOID going?

We feel lucky. Between the special set we played at Roadburn, the tour with Wolves in The Throne Room and magic moments we experienced at other occult ceremonies, the whole VOID experience was quite unexpected.  But we have started another cycle in which I hope VOID will become only but a good memory.

2.A band of six members including diverse musicians, how easy it is to compose? Is it better to be spontaneous or meticulous? Especially for your band that someone can recognize oriental, folk, 70’s synth elements.

The recording process is spontaneous for some of us (especially for the lead elements), while others are gate keepers who have to see the big picture in order to transform ideas into an actual album. We all have our skills and limits, but each member brings something personal to the table. It often starts with a basic idea that will evolve into a swirling beast. The hardest part is mixing all the different elements, which is why Déhà(producer)’s part of the equation is crucial.

3.I am sure you will be told every time that your music seems like a ritual, it is occult. Is this a philosophy? Your music is like this because it is supposed to be, because of what you have inside of you or because you feel like it?

The music is honest. So are all the people involved in (and around) the band. Seems stupid to say maybe, but that makes the whole difference. No agenda, no to do list, no financial obligation, no limits, no pressure, no ego. We feel free and quite detached when it comes to Wolvennest. We also have the chance to collaborate with a label that totally shares our vision.

 I see the entity as a place where we can connect to something ancient, pure and universal.  As far as I’m concerned, it allows me to mentally cut from what’s worse in today’s world: lack of altruism and  dignity, noise (in all its forms), proselytism, individualism and binary emotions.

4.Sharon has added a cinematic feeling to your music. It is great to notice that front women in black metal exist more and more frequently these days, although until recently black metal’s audience was hostile to the female gender. Do you believe that black metal fans have changed –matured?

Shazzula has been welcomed at all our shows, whatever the type of the audience. Black Metal, Psyche, Stoner, Doom, Ambient, mainstream shows etc, we never witnessed aggressive or stupid reactions about the gender of our singer. I think people are coming to shows and rituals in order to escape what  “modern”society is based on. So, the difference between men and women in music is pointless, only the aura of the musician or artist matters.

5.Because our blog is politically active, I couldn’t forget to ask you this, how do you see the latest news about Mgla, after the revelations of having connections with other fascist bands?

I’ll keep my opinions out of the virtual kraken, as I don’t want to feed the trolls.

6.I wish you the best about the tours! We would love to see you in Greece and we are waiting for the new album from Cult of Erinyes, right?

The Dark Skies Above Us

Cult of Erinyes new album is coming at the end of the year, via Amor Fati Productions. Wolvennest will go on tour in February, with Saturnalia Temple and Dread Sovereign. We’ll announce other shows and news regarding  new music and our other projects in due time.

Συνέντευξη με τους Allochiria

Είμαι δηλωμένος «οπαδός» των Allochiria . Το Post Sludge που παίζουν τις καθιστά μια απ τις καλύτερες μπάντες στην Ελλάδα αναντίρρητα. Ο τελευταίος δίσκος «Omonoia», ένα ευρωπαϊκό tour στην Ευρώπη καθώς και επερχόμενος δίσκος (τον οποίον τον stream-αραν κιόλας) δείχνουν ότι είναι μια μπάντα που ΔΕΝ ΓΙΝΕΤΑΙ να αγνοηθεί.

Ας ξεκινήσουμε λοιπόν :

1.       Πείτε μας για τον νέο σας δίσκο . Σε ποιο στάδιο βρίσκεστε ?

Έχουμε σχεδόν τελειώσει με τις ηχογραφήσεις και ήδη η μίξη των κομματιών βρίσκεται σε καλό στάδιο. Ελπίζουμε πως κατά το φθινόπωρο-χειμώνα φέτος θα είμαστε έτοιμοι.

2. Βλέπουμε ότι το Post είναι στην ακμή του και αυτό είναι πολύ ευχάριστο. Ποια η γνώμη σας?

Είναι ωραίο όταν ο κόσμος ενδιαφέρεται να ακούσει διαφορετική μουσική από αυτά που άκουγε πάντα, οποιοδήποτε κι αν είναι αυτό το είδος. Σίγουρα σαν μπάντα που κινείται προς τον post-metal ήχο, βλέπουμε άλλη αντιμετώπιση στη μουσική μας, κι αυτό, αν μη τι άλλο, θετικό είναι και μας αρέσει, παρόλο που δεν έπαιξε ποτέ ρόλο στο πώς γράφουμε τη μουσική μας.

3.  Στην συναυλία σας με τους Altar of Plagues και τους Year of No Light είδα κόσμο που δεν σας ήξερε ,να παραμιλάει από ευχαρίστηση. Πως είναι να είσαι στο ίδιο σανίδι με τόσο μεγάλες μπάντες?

Η εμπειρία είναι σίγουρα δυνατή και είναι τιμή μας να παίζουμε μαζί με καταξιωμένα συγκροτήματα. Το ωραίο είναι όταν γνωρίζεις αυτούς τους ανθρώπους από κοντά, και βλέπεις ότι έχουν κι αυτοί δουλειές, οικογένειες, δυσκολίες και ζωή χωρίς ροκσταριλίκια, και τότε είναι που ανεβαίνουν περισσότερο στα μάτια σου.

4. Η μουσική σας μου βγάζει πολύ οργή , συναίσθημα και πνευματικότητα. Οι εξελίξεις στην Ελλάδα , ποσό έχουν επηρεάσει την μπάντα στον τομέα της έμπνευσης  και της σύνθεσης?

Το περιβάλλον και η κοινωνία που ζούμε οπωσδήποτε μας επηρεάζουν, δε ζούμε σε μια γυάλα. Όταν γράφουμε μουσική και στίχους, θέλουμε είτε να ξεφύγουμε από τον κόσμο, είτε να τον περιγράψουμε. Όταν γράφουμε για την κατάντια του ανθρώπου, τη σχιζοφρένεια, την απελπισία του, τότε ναι, η ευρύτερη κοινωνικοπολιτική κατάσταση έχει παίξει το ρόλο της.

5. Εκτός από το πολύ καλό project τους  Anticluster και τον επικείμενο δίσκο  ετοιμάζετε τίποτα άλλο αυτό το διάστημα ?

Ο Σταύρος και η Ειρήνη συνεργάστηκαν το 2015 με τον Βασίλη Γκογκίδη από τους Vygotsky Circle στο προσωπικό του project “The Dandelion Fields”, το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε σε split κασέτα με τον Ghone. Φέτος επίσης συμμετείχαν σε καινούριο project του Βασίλη, το οποίο προβλέπεται να κυκλοφορήσει τους επόμενους μήνες. Ο Στέφανος επίσης εδώ και μερικούς μήνες είναι μέλος και των Valletta Str. Project.

6. Ο επίλογος δικός σας. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ πραγματικά.

Interview With Allochiria

I am a declared fan of Allochiria. Their Post Sludge makes them  undeniably one of the best bands in Greece. Their last album «Omonoia», a European tour and an upcoming album (which the have already streamed) show that they are a band that cannot be ignored.

Let's start:

1. Tell us about your new album. At what stage you?

We have almost finished the recordings already and the mixing of the tracks is well underway. We hope that in this year's  autumn/winter we will be ready.

2. We see that the Post genre is on the rise and it is very pleasant. What is your opinion?

It's nice when people are interested in listening to different music than they listened before, whichever genre it might be. Certainly as a band moved to the post-metal sound, we see a different attitude towards our music, and that, if anything, is positive and we like it, although it has never played a role in how we write our music.

3. In your concert with Altar of Plagues and Year of No Light I saw people who did not know you, going crazy for you. How does it feel to be on the same stage with such great bands?

This experience is certainly intense and it is our honor to play with renowned bands. The nice thing is when you get to know these people and see that they also have jobs, families, difficulties and a life without a bullshit rock star attitude and that makes you respect them more.

4. Your music puts me much anger, emotion and spirituality. How much have the recent developments in Greece influenced the band in terms of inspiration and composition?

The environment and the society we live in certainly affect us, we do not live in a fishbowl. When we write music and lyrics, we either want to get away from the world or to describe it. When writing about the downfall of man, his schizophrenia, his hopelessness, then yes, the broader socio-political situation has played its role.

5. In addition to the very good project Anticluster and its upcoming album, do you prepare anything else?

Stavros and Irene worked in 2015 with Vasilis Gogidis from Vygotsky Circle in his personal project "The Dandelion Fields", which has released a split tape with Ghone. This year they also participated in a new project of Vasilis, which will be released in the coming months. Stephen is also a member of Valletta Str. Project  for several months now.

Interview with Escvro

Good news from The Dark Skies Above Us Collective.
A new compilation will be released soon and a lot of new bands join the alliance.

In the last days I had the fortune of meet a very great and kvlt man: Escvro.
This is some of what we said.

Me: What's the age of escvro?

Escvro: Escvro is a very young project, was founded in later 2014, has just 1 year.


Me: How we can name what you play?

Escvro: I have an anarchist approach towards music production and distribution, but I'm not what you'd call a "political anarchist". As well as, Escvro doesn't deals directly with politics in its lyrics. Escvro is a non-profit, anti-commercial and anti-mainstream project, but its lyrical themes are, mainly, nihilism and existentialism.


Me: Can you tell me more about your anti-commercial idea?

Escvro: I had that anti-commercial movement idea because the "mainstream logic" is infiltrating the underground. I think the underground should be completely opposed to the mainstream, not just including the music itself, but its distribution. Here in my area there is a good underground scene, but I think it's a little expansive to attend shows and buy band's stuff, so I decided to make things a little different.

Me: When u will release something more?

Escvro: I'll release an EP in january of 2016.

TDSAU: I think we can start talkin about your influences and the fact of you are german and antifascist black metal.

Ancst: Its different with everyone of us I guess but we are mostly HC kids with a love for metal or metal heads with a love for HC I guess. for my part, I grew up with death metal and later explored black metal and then went to hardcore stuff. I wasnt really happy with how things went with the metal scene at that point and for me the whole DIY hardcore stuff was way more my alley when it came to politics and ideals. the love for metal remained tough, so someday Ancst was born when I went through another one of this metal listening phases. speaking influences, I really love 90s death metal stuff like napalm death or malevolent creation, second wave black metal like ulver, darkthrone and immortal, 90s metallic hardcore, euro scramz and of course the whole emo crust thing (ekkaia, madame germen). Im sure that stuff influenced us, some way or another. also the lyrical focus is more rooted within DIY hardcore, we were never really interested in all that cliche black metal stuff.
you know people always ask about that antifascist stuff and that somehow is strange as for my part I never really saw the point where facism or racism went hand in hand with metal. there had always been metal and also black metal from around the globe, coming from different cultures that cross influenced itself. going back, rock music comes from blues and blues was made by people of color. the instruments we use are created by people of other cultures as well. so metal for me always had an multi cultural aspect to it and I love that. If people come up with all that trve kvlt stuff and their orthodox nostalgic nonsense about how you have to honor those from the past, well its time these guys should do some delta blues worship. where I grew up metal heads and punks went hand in hand against white power bone heads, it was years later that I saw the first long haired metal guys wearing swastika shirts and doing the hitler salute which completely made me rethink the whole story. I always was aware of the shock effect that all third reich nonsense had but I never thought people being serious about that. metal is a lot about image and show (see kiss, priest, kind diamond, cooper etc.) and there had to be a point where people would play with that certain image but seeing a thing such as NSBM coming up it somehow saddened me to see that no one gave a shit and drew a line. I mean there is a difference in bands playing with third reich imagery for its shock value (which is still dumb in my book) and bands like der stürmer or absurd openly embracing and promoting nation socialist ideas and hatred against everything that does not fit into their world view. I mean we are speaking about active nazis here, not your average drunk 90s bone head bum. There is a lot of talking in the metal scene right now about politics and if they should appear in metal or not and Im saying "yes they do" as everything we do in our daily life is somehow political and by allowing some serious hatemongers to spread their bullshit we somehow forget what metal really is. also I like to add that there always had been political statements in metal, and those were not your average right wing, pro government, pro fascist, pro bullshit themes. there had always been a cross influence of (politcial charged) punk & metal, without that extreme metal would not exist. so its somehow silly to evade that topic with promoting nonsense like being non political. people don't give a shit and thats there excuse, which is fine but then why not being honest about it? Im not good at a lot of political stuff either, I do not know enough, I do not read enough but I know for sure where I stand in this discussion.



TSAU: Do you partecipate political life and how? 

Acst: I used to do much more political stuff in the past but nova days I am honestly fed up with lots of discussions inside the European left. too much talk, too much weird directions. I used to go out for demonstrations and took part in political actions years ago but I simply don't feel that connected to a certain agenda anymore. I don't want to follow some stupid ass setting of rules just to please some pretentious smart ass activist. I always saw myself as a musician first, cause this is my first love and later on realized that there is much more room for ideas and for sharing these. so this is how I feel I can participate in all of this. beside this I'm still playing loads of benefit shows to support antifa groups, animal rights groups or people that somehow got between the wheels of this system and make sure I'm always open for some simple talking.



TDSAU: your future releases? Thank you for your time!

Ancst: Our new split LP with our friends in Ast in currently at the pressing plant and will again be released via Vendetta. I hope this will be out end of January. Next to this we are still working on our full length LP. not sure if we will have them for the tour in march, but it will be out some time in spring. after this several split releases are planned but I cant say much about this.
