Συνέντευξη με τους Wolvennest 

H κυκλοφορία του VOID των Wolvennest ήταν μια από τις καλύτερες BlackMetal στιγμές μου για το 2019.Θα φιγουράρει σίγουρα στις υψηλές θέσεις με τους δίσκους τις χρονιάς και έχουν στρέψει τους προβολείς πάνω τους. Σήμερα θα προσπαθήσω να ζορίσω τον κιθαρίστα της μπάντας VON BURTLE CORVUS και να ξεκλέψω καμιά απάντηση. 

1.Καλησπέρα CORVUS. Κατ’ αρχάς θα ήθελα να σε ευχαριστήσω για αυτή τη mini- συνέντευξη. Ξέρω ότι τις αποφεύγετε, και ότι προτιμάτε να μιλάτε με τη μουσική σας. Ας περάσουμε στα πιο πρόσφατα.  Πως πάει η κυκλοφορία του VOID?

Αισθανόμαστε τυχεροί. Ανάμεσα σε μεγάλες μπάντες που παίξαμε στο φεστιβάλ του Roadburn, στο tour με τους Wolves In The Throne Room και σε μαγικές στιγμές που βιώσαμε σε άλλες occult τελετές. Η όλη εμπειρία του VOID ήταν κάτι αναπάντεχο. Επίσης έχουμε ξεκινήσει έναν νέο κύκλο στον οποίο ελπίζω το VOID να είναι μια καλή ανάμνηση.

2. Μια εξαμελής μπάντα με ετερόκλητους μουσικούς, πόσο εύκολο είναι να συνθέτει? Δουλεύει καλύτερα να είστε αυθόρμητοι ή σχολαστικοί? Ειδικά για εσάς που κάποιος μπορεί να αναγνωρίσει oriental, folk, synth 70΄στοιχεία.

Η διαδικασία ηχογράφησης είναι αυθόρμητη για κάποιους από εμάς, άλλοι βέβαια πρέπει να δουν την συνολική εικόνα έτσι ώστε να υλοποιήσουν τις ιδέες σε ένα άλμπουμ. Ο κάθε ένας έχει διαφορετικές ικανότητες και όρια, αλλά κάθε μέλος δίνει την προσωπική του νότα. Συχνά ξεκινάμε με μια βασική ιδέα η οποία εξελίσσεται σε χείμαρρο. Το πιο δύσκολο κομμάτι είναι να γίνει μίξη όλων των διαφορετικών στοιχείων, γι' αυτό ο ρόλος του Deha (παραγωγού) είναι πολύ σημαντικός στην εξίσωση.

3. Θα ακούτε συνέχεια ότι η μουσική σας μοιάζει τελετουργική, Occult. Αυτό είναι θέμα φιλοσοφίας? Παίζετε έτσι επειδή πρέπει, επειδή το έχετε μέσα σας ,επειδή το νιώθετε?

Η μουσική είναι ειλικρινής. Το ίδιο είναι και όλα τα άτομα που απαρτίζουν την μπάντα. Φαίνεται χαζό να πούμε "ίσως", αλλά αυτό κάνει όλη την διαφορά. Δεν έχουμε ατζέντα, ούτε λίστα,ούτε οικονομικές υποχρεώσεις, ούτε όρια, ούτε πίεση, ούτε εγωισμό. Αισθανόμαστε ελεύθεροι και ανεξάρτητοι όσων αφορά τους Wolvennest. Επίσης έχουμε την τύχη να συνεργαζόμαστε με μια εταιρία με την οποία έχουμε κοινές βλέψεις.

Το βλέπω σαν ένα μέρος όπου μπορούμε να συνδεθούμε με κάτι αρχαίο, αγνό, συμπαντικό. Πιστεύω ότι μου επιτρέπει να αποκοπω πνευματικά απ' ό,τι είναι σάπιο στο σύγχρονο κόσμο: την έλλειψη αλτρουισμού και αξιοπρέπειας, απ' οτιδήποτε εκκωφαντικό (σε όλες τις μορφές) , από τον προσηλυτισμό, τον ατομισμό και τα ακραία συναισθήματα.

4. H Sharon έχει δώσει μια πιο κινηματογραφική αισθητική στη μουσική σας. Είναι πολύ θετικό που βλέπουμε όλο και πιο συχνά front womansστο ΒΜ.  Σε ένα κοινό που ήταν αφιλόξενο προς το γυναικείο φύλο μέχρι τα τελευταία χρόνια. Πιστεύεις ότι οι οπαδοί του BlackMetal έχουν αλλάξει- ωριμάσει?

Η Shazzula είχε αποδοχή σε όλα μας τα show, ανεξάρτητα του κοινού: Black Metal,Psyche,Stoner,Doom,Ambient,mainstream shows κτλπ.  Ποτέ δεν μας έτυχε κάποια επιθετική ή χαζή αντίδραση σχετικά με το φύλλο της frontwoman. Πιστεύω ότι οι άνθρωποι έρχονται στις συναυλίες-τελετές με σκοπό να αποδράσουν από την σύγχρονη κοινωνία. Οπότε δεν έχει κανένα νόημα η διάκριση μεταξύ ανδρών και γυναικών στη μουσική, μόνο η αύρα του μουσικού και του καλλιτέχνη.

5. Επειδή το blog μας είναι πολιτικοποιημένο δεν θα μπορούσα- ήθελα να μην σας ρωτήσω αυτό. Πως βλέπετε τις εξελίξεις στο στρατόπεδο των Mgla μετά τις τελευταίες αποκαλύψεις περί διασυνδέσεων με άλλες φασιστικές μπάντες? 

Θα κρατήσω την γνώμη μου για εμένα, γιατί δεν θέλω να τροφοδοτήσω τις φήμες και τα trolls.

Καλή συνέχεια με τις περιοδείες θα θέλαμε πολύ να σας δούμε στην Ελλάδα.Α! και περιμένουμε νέο δίσκο από τους Cult of Erinyes, έτσι?

To νέο άλμπουμ των Cult of Erinyes θα κυκλοφορήσει στο τέλος του χρόνου από Amor Fati Productions. Οι Wolvennest θα κάνουν tour τον Φεβρουάριο με τους Saturnalia Temple και τους Dread Sovereign. Θα ανακοινώσουμε και άλλες συναυλίες αλλά και νέα σχετικά με επερχόμενα projects σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα.

Interview with Wolvennest

The album release “VOID” of Wolvennest was one of my best black metal moments in 2019. It will certainly be on the top albums of the year and they are in the limelight. Today I’ll try to pressure the band’s guitarist VON BURTLE CORVUS to steal some answers.

1.Hello CORVUS. Firstly, I would like to thank you for the mini interview. I know you’ve been avoiding them and that you prefer to talk through your music. Let’s move on to the latest. How is the release of the VOID going?

We feel lucky. Between the special set we played at Roadburn, the tour with Wolves in The Throne Room and magic moments we experienced at other occult ceremonies, the whole VOID experience was quite unexpected.  But we have started another cycle in which I hope VOID will become only but a good memory.

2.A band of six members including diverse musicians, how easy it is to compose? Is it better to be spontaneous or meticulous? Especially for your band that someone can recognize oriental, folk, 70’s synth elements.

The recording process is spontaneous for some of us (especially for the lead elements), while others are gate keepers who have to see the big picture in order to transform ideas into an actual album. We all have our skills and limits, but each member brings something personal to the table. It often starts with a basic idea that will evolve into a swirling beast. The hardest part is mixing all the different elements, which is why Déhà(producer)’s part of the equation is crucial.

3.I am sure you will be told every time that your music seems like a ritual, it is occult. Is this a philosophy? Your music is like this because it is supposed to be, because of what you have inside of you or because you feel like it?

The music is honest. So are all the people involved in (and around) the band. Seems stupid to say maybe, but that makes the whole difference. No agenda, no to do list, no financial obligation, no limits, no pressure, no ego. We feel free and quite detached when it comes to Wolvennest. We also have the chance to collaborate with a label that totally shares our vision.

 I see the entity as a place where we can connect to something ancient, pure and universal.  As far as I’m concerned, it allows me to mentally cut from what’s worse in today’s world: lack of altruism and  dignity, noise (in all its forms), proselytism, individualism and binary emotions.

4.Sharon has added a cinematic feeling to your music. It is great to notice that front women in black metal exist more and more frequently these days, although until recently black metal’s audience was hostile to the female gender. Do you believe that black metal fans have changed –matured?

Shazzula has been welcomed at all our shows, whatever the type of the audience. Black Metal, Psyche, Stoner, Doom, Ambient, mainstream shows etc, we never witnessed aggressive or stupid reactions about the gender of our singer. I think people are coming to shows and rituals in order to escape what  “modern”society is based on. So, the difference between men and women in music is pointless, only the aura of the musician or artist matters.

5.Because our blog is politically active, I couldn’t forget to ask you this, how do you see the latest news about Mgla, after the revelations of having connections with other fascist bands?

I’ll keep my opinions out of the virtual kraken, as I don’t want to feed the trolls.

6.I wish you the best about the tours! We would love to see you in Greece and we are waiting for the new album from Cult of Erinyes, right?

The Dark Skies Above Us

Cult of Erinyes new album is coming at the end of the year, via Amor Fati Productions. Wolvennest will go on tour in February, with Saturnalia Temple and Dread Sovereign. We’ll announce other shows and news regarding  new music and our other projects in due time.

Sacred Son - Opinion

Η πιο πολυσυζητημένη κυκλοφορία φέτος του Black Metal  δεν θα μπορούσε να περάσει απαρατήρητη.

Κακά τα ψέματα το Black Metal έχει καθιερωθεί στην συλλογική συνείδηση του μουσικού κόσμου . Αυτό δεν είναι απαραίτητα κακό . Δεν είμαστε πια οι έφηβοι βλάκες , ούτε οι σκληροί μάγκες που σφάζουν κοκόρια. Πλέον το είδος βγάζει πρωτοποριακές κυκλοφορίες και μαζικά. Η μουσική βιομηχανία επίσης ,δεν είναι ηλίθια και ξέρει  ότι ο μεταλάς είναι βαθύτατα  ρομαντικός. Είτε μιλάμε για τον true fan ή και ακόμα τους περαστικούς εφήβους που αντιμετωπίζουν το μεταλ σαν ορμονική ακμή.

Η περιπτώσεις με διχογνωμίες είναι σαν αυτές του Sacred Son που βρίσκονται στο μεταίχμιο.

Οι – O Sacred Son παίζει αξιοπρεπέστατα μουσική με ένα εξώφυλλο το οποίο θα μπορούσε να είναι από διακοπές σε κάποιο ελληνικό νησί .Είναι one hit wonderer και πέσαμε στην παγίδα του?  Κόλπο για να υπογράψει σε μια μεγαλύτερη δισκογραφική? Είναι πολλά έτη μπροστά?

Δεν μπορούν να απαντηθούν όλα. Σίγουρα οι μεγαλοκοπέλες που θεωρούν φλώρο κάποιον από το attitude  μπορούν να πάρουν μια χρονοκάψουλα και να έρθουν στο 17’.  Επίσης, αν κάποιος τα κάνει όλα αυτά για να προωθηθεί στον κύκλο δεν το βρίσκω κακούργημα. Οι δισκογραφικές χρόνια έχουν μαδήσει τον κάθε μικρό καλλιτέχνη και είναι ευκαιρία να πάρουμε ότι μπορούμε (πλέον θα τα σκάτε καθίκια).  Στο μόνο που ίσως μου είναι λίγο αλλότριο είναι το εικαστικό του πράγματος  και εξηγούμαι :

Θυμάμαι ότι ένας λόγος που αγάπησα το BM ήταν η θεατρικότητα του. Ναι, μου άρεσε το corpse paint (και δεν με ξενίζει ούτε τώρα) , μου αρέσαν και οι μανδύες και οι φλεγόμενες πεντάλφες. Επίσης πάντα είχα ένα κρυμμένο επιχείρημα στην φαρέτρα μου όταν στα late 90’ όταν τσακωνόμουν με αλλόθρησκα μουσικά τύπους  (μιλάμε για πόλωση) : « Θα μπορούσες να φοράς μπλούζα  την μούρη του τάδε σκυλά ή του δείνα ράπερ?» . Η απάντηση ήταν αρνητική. Το ίδιο συμβαίνει αντίστροφα με την περίπτωση του Sacred Son , συγγνώμη αλλά δεν θα φορούσα ούτε σε patch ούτε σε τίποτα την μούρη Dane Cross  όσο καλός μουσικός και να είναι. Όχι, δεν είναι έφυες εξώφυλλο (δεν μιλάω για την εμπορικότητα ) το έχουν κάνει και πολλοί άλλοι . Ωστόσο ,θα άκουγα με ενδιαφέρον την μουσική του γιατί αυτό μετράει. Αλλά τελικά έχει και τόση σημασία η γνώμη μου?

Το βασικό είναι ένα: ότι το πρόσημο είναι θετικό. Είναι καλό να τραντάζεται ο βάλτος ακόμα και με πέτρες . Να βγαίνουν τα κόμπλεξ της κοινότητας στην επιφάνεια και να ξαναβυθίζονται . Πιο πολλοί άνθρωποι έρχονται στην «φάση» μας , κάνουν τα όνειρα  τους  και ζούνε  από αυτό . Το BM δεν δημιουργεί προβλήματα ούτε τα λύνει, απλώς τα αποκαλύπτει και τύποι σαν Dane Cross είναι το καλύτερο παράδειγμα όπως και να χει . 

One of the most discussed Black Metal release of this year, couldn’t be left unnoticed.

Certainly black Metal has been set in the music world’s conscience.  This is not necessarily a bad thing. We are not stupid teenagers anymore, nor are we the bad-ass dudes who slaughter the cocks. New avant-garde releases are out massively all the time. Music industry knows for sure that all metalheads are extremely romantic. Even those that are true fans or those transient teens who think of metal as an hormonal episode.

The controversial cases are similar to Sacred Son which are on the cusp.

Sacred Son plays respectable music along with a cover which could have been a photo from vacations on a greek island. He is one hit wonderer and he has set a trap for us? Is it a trick so that he finds a bigger records company? Or is he at the forefront?

We can’t answer all our queries. Of course the old dudes who judge someone as a wuss based on the attitude, can wake up on 2017. Also, if someone tries this way to be promoted isn’t such a bad thing to do. Records have robbed so many artists for years, and it is time we take back whatever we can (from now on you will foot the bill bitches). Something that feels a little weird to me is the artistic field and by that I mean:

I remember that one reason I have loved BM is its dramatic tone. Yes, I liked the corpse paint thing (and it doesn’t repulse me even now), I liked even the mantles and the flaming pentalpha. Also, I always had an argument in late 90’s, when I had words with fellows from other music fields (It’s all about polarization). “Could you wear a tee with a pop or rap idol on it?” The answer is no. The same applies inversely in the case of Sacred Son. Sorry, but I would never wear neither a patch nor anything that has Dane Cross pan on it, it doesn’t matter that he is a good artist. No, it is not a witty cover (I do not refer to how commercial it is), it looks like a common choice of many others. However, I would listen to his music with interest because that’s what matters. But eventually, is my opinion that important?

Substantive is that the outcome is good. It is good to provoke the world. To bring all of the Black Metal society’s complexes to the surface. So many people come to our “world”, they dream and they live. BM doesn’t create any problems but doesn’t resolve any too. It just helps shed light to them. Guys like Dane Cross are the best example.

Very often the extreme / black metal scene has not been the most welcoming place for non-white and/or LGBTQIA people. These people would like to go to black metal concerts and be part of their scene but often don’t feel safe by the consistent presence of racists at gigs and festivals. The heavy presence of racists in Black Metal even produced a completely new and autonomous subgenre: the infamous NSBM, or National Socialist Black Metal.

WE MUST OPPOSE RACISM IN ANY FORM, MAKE SURE THAT DANGEROUS PEOPLE AND THEIR DISGUSTING IDEOLOGIES ARE NOT WELCOME AND THAT METAL IS A PLACE FOR ANY KIND OF PEOPLE APART FROM BIGOTS, SEXISTS AND PEOPLE WHO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE COLOUR OF SOMEBODY'S SKIN.

This pamphlet is just a tool aimed at solving this stifling problem. Boycott has always been a revolutionary tactic: we just need to find a way to use it effectively. First, just for simplicity, we need to divide the problem of nsbm in 2 parts: the bands and the scenes.

1) THE BANDS

• Openly NS bands like Graveland, Satanic Warmaster, Peste Noire or less popular ones must be hindered and boycotted in every possible way.
• The boycott shall also include non-NS bands where fascists play. Many NS bands from the 90s has in fact become more intelligent through time and for marketing and political reasons they cleaned their image leaving behind the most obvious nazi paraphernalia. Nokturnal Mortum is a great example of this process: while they are now publicly “apolitical”, their members are still obvious militants or supporters of Ukrainian neo-fascism.
• We must not tolerate also bands that share the stage with openly NS bands who, despite the severity of racism, claim that they only care for the music or other similar bullshit completely unattached to the material reality. If they care about the music so much, why don’t they make gigs the most welcoming places they can to all kind of people? Contrary to adhering to an ideology of hate – which is a choice someone makes – the conditions you are born into, your traits, your ethnicity or your sexual orientation are not something you choose. Musician, who do you want to play for?

1.1) RESEARCH

• Many symbols related to Nazism can be found in artworks: their presence should ring a bell.  



The “Hate on Display” project provides a solid database of racist symbols and can be found here

• It is very likely that someone already discussed online about the ideas of a band and of its members. It is easy to find these info.

1.2) INDIVIDUAL BOYCOTT

Stop fuelling Nazis with our money. Stop buying NSBM albums, merch, stop going to NS-friendly gigs. Who still wants to listen to these bands can download their music illegally, but without publicizing it. Do not ever go to their gigs (apart if planning to picket it as presented in point 1.4 below).

1.3) SOCIAL BOYCOTT

If we organize, we are (of course) more effective.

Make scorched earth around the Nazis.

.
• Make effective use of all available connections and even social networks to make pressure on non-NS bands so that they have to take a side and avoid sharing stage with fascists.
• Pressure must be put also on the organizers of NS concerts and on the people that provide them with a place where to hold them: they must acknowledge who is going to play there, what are the band's stances on anti-semitism, racisms and homophobia and what their members said and did during the years.

1.4) STREET BOYCOTT

The objective is to block and disrupt a concert from taking place.

A few examples of effective antifascist actions:

• hang up banners, flyers and posters all around the concert venue days before the concert in order to push and distress the owner of the place even more;
• hand-to-hand flyering is as always a good option too;
• a picket in front of the place should be organised the day of the gig - if it is possible to deploy enough forces to make the action safe.

These tactics present the biggest risks and should be organised with care and taking any precautions that will make their accomplishment safe from both a physical and a legal perspective..

2) THE SCENES

THE EXTREME METAL SCENE

The places where the scene lives must be kept free from fascists. Ambiguous people must be disambiguated, confrontation is necessary to defend yourself and to keep our spaces safe for everybody to enter and enjoy. Does someone with a Burzum t-shirt walk around our places? Confront him/her and make your move. A panacea solution does not exist, some people should just be warned about the shit they are endorsing, and other ones must be simply kicked out.

It’s now obvious that fascists will not disappear by themselves. We can’t waste time in organizing generic black metal concerts or festivals that just allow people to enjoy themselves one night. The gigs we organize or we attend to, must be more and more explicitly political, clearly antifascist and, in case of black metal, understandably anti-nsbm.

OTHER SCENES

We should not enclose ourselves in our scene: prolific connections can be made "outside" of it. The punk and hardcore scenes are possibly the most antifascist and revolutionary existing ones, many of us are already active members of these scenes or have comrades or friends in them.

As antifascists, we must develop non-sectarian mutual-supportive relationships with those comrades, and, since these scenes have a long and established antifa history, we should learn what they have already developed through time to keep their scenes safe.

If their participants are not aware of what is going on inside the extreme metal scene, or if they have prejudices against it, we should share knowledge with them about the growing anti-racist feeling that is developing in our scene. With the migrant and social crisis deepening, political positions are also taking a more defined shape: taking an antiracist stance has become necessary for everybody that oppose Nazis. The help from these people is necessary.

IF YOU DON’T STAND AGAINST YOU ARE COLLABORATING

Our objective is to be able, over time, to blur the distinctions between scenes that share the same values: defending our music, places and concerts from the fascist scum and, ultimately, defeating fascism by kicking out racists from concerts, from scenes, from the world, from the universe.

Oι Path to Ixtab καθώς και οι Asmodie είναι από τις μπάντες που θυμίζουν πολλά σχήματα του δεύτερου κύματος του Black Metal που γουστάρουμε. Οι μεν Path.. δείχνουν να συνεργάζονται πολύ καλά. Τα “πιο” Death φωνητικά και οι low tempo drums συνθέσεις μας γυρνάνε 20+ χρόνια πίσω. Οι δε Asmodie ,είναι το πειραματικό solo-debut του Σεραφείμ με λίγο πιο Black Stoner αισθητική παρόμοιου ύφους των Ιxtab. Τα κομμάτια έχουν καλές ιδέες αλλά στην εκτέλεση λίγο πιο μπερδεμένες. Διαλέγετε και παίρνετε.

The Path to Ixtab and the Asmodie as well, are the bands that familiarize a lot with the second wave of Black Metal, we enjoy a lot. The Path show that they co-operate very well. The real Death vocals and the low tempo drums compositions travel us more than 20 years in the back in time. The Asmodie are the experiment solo-debut of Seraphim having Black Stoner aesthetics, similar of the Ixtab. All the tracks have good ideas but they are a bit confusing when performing. Η ακμαία σκηνή της Cascadia που ποτέ παίζει Black ποτέ Punk-ιζει αλλά ,κυρίως Crust-αρει μας προσφέρει δείγματα ποιοτικότατου Μεταλ σαν τους Huldrekall . Πέντε κομμάτια με προσωπικότητα και πώρωση, με καθηλώνουν . Μπάντα με πυρωμένη σφραγίδα προέλευσης στο μέτωπο που γράφει: «περηφάνια» .10/10.

The robust scene of Cascadia that sometimes is Black, others Punk and mostly Crust, offers us quality Metal like the Huldrekall. Five songs with personality and passion, attract my attention at once. A band with a unique signature on the top of the head that writes “pride”. 10/10.

Ο John Haughm μαζί με την παρέα του  πέταξαν το παλιό του δέρμα τους και δημιούργησαν τους Pillorian. Το απόσταγμα είναι βουκολικό ,σκοτεινό μα πάνω απ’ όλα ατμοσφαιρικό .Το στοίχημα όμως είναι να «δέσουν» σαν ομάδα καθώς ενώ είναι ένας πολύ σωστά αποδοσμένος δίσκος με ταυτότητα ,δεν φτάνει περασμένα μεγαλεία . Θα έκρινα ότι βρίσκεται  ανάμεσά  στο Pale Folklore και το Devoid of Light . Αρκετά καλοί παρόλαυτα.

John Haughm along with his companion renewed and create Pillorian. The result is pretty dark and above all, makes a suitable atmosphere. The real challenge is to bond together as group, since it is a carefully constructed album, but doesn’t reach greatness of previous efforts. I would say that album is something between the Pale Folklore and the Devoid of Light. Check it.

Eξι χρόνια θέριζε το Underground μέχρι που υπέγραψε στην Vendetta Records (δισκογραφικοί σκάουτερς τσέκαρε) και να γίνει ευρέως γνωστός. Το άλμπουμ έχει άψογες ρυθμίσεις στα φωνητικά στις κιθάρες στα ΠΑΝΤΑ.  Αν δεν σου αρέσει η ψευτογοτθηκή αισθητική αλλά η αυθεντική μαύρη ατμόσφαιρα δεν θα μετανιώσεις ούτε στο ελάχιστο.

For six consecutive years Underground was thriving till he signed for Vendetta Records (look for disc spies) and became famous. The album contains excellent parts in vocals, guitars and in general in EVERYTHING. If you prefer pure black atmosphere and not something like gothic, then you will not regret at all.

Οι  Dead In The Manger μου θύμισαν  πως παίζεται το καλό Black/Death ,που το είχα αφήσει στην «απ’ έξω» καιρό τώρα. Tα κιθαριστικά μέρη του δίσκου αλλά και τα blastbeats είναι Black Metal αλλά κάποια επιτηδευμένα φαλτσέτα και κοφτά ριφς σε κάνουν να αναπολείς Death metal μεγαλεία. Θα μπορούσα να τον χαρακτηρίσω NeoBlack δίσκο όσο και αν –άδικα- σε ξενίζει η λέξη.

The Dead in the Manger reminded me how the exceptional Black/Death is, something i had left aside for a while. The guitaristic parts of the album and the blastbeats are Black Metal, but some exquisite falsetto and short played riffs make you recall Death Metal greatness. I could call him Neoblack album, no matter how unfair might the word be.

Καιρός ήταν και εγώ να εγκαινιάσω μια νέα στήλη. Κάθε χρόνο, θα γίνεται μια mini- μουσική αναδρομή στον αχταρμά που λέγεται μυαλό μου. Το τσιγάρο είναι στο τασάκι και η πρώτη γουλιά από την τρίτη μπύρα μου στρογγυλοκάθισε στο στομάχι μου. Πάμε λοιπόν.

I .Όταν το υπόγειο ραδιουργεί καρτερικά:

1.Ultha - Converging Sins

Oι πιο σπαρακτικοί από ποτέ οι ULTHA έχουν έμπνευση και η κατάρα δέρνει την σκιά τους, κυριολεκτικά. Αναμφίβολα  η καλύτερη στιγμή τους.

2.Morrow - Covenant Of Teeth

Όταν σε Crust / Punk μπάντες ακούω βιολί μου έρχονται πολλές πολιτικοποιημένες μπάντες που μου αρέσουν. Οι Morrow δεν αποτελούν εξαίρεση στον κανόνα. Το αποτέλεσμα μου θυμίζει έναν εκλεπτυσμένο αλήτη που δεν ήρθε για να κάνει την πλάκα του αλλά, για να δημιουργήσει.

3. Mizmor – Yodh

Αυτό το Blackened Doom μου κάνει. Εδώ έχουμε να κάνουμε μια μπάντα που δεν την νοιάζουν οι επιφάσεις. Θέλω να βγάλω την μαυρίλα μου έξω? Την βγάζω. Χωρίς φιοριτούρες και λιμάρισμα γωνιών.  Η μουσική είναι εργαλείο και όχι αυτοσκοπός.

II. Ο καλός γείτονας του πάνω ορόφου…

1 .Cultes des Ghoules - Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love

Πραγματικά οι CdG έκανα μάγια και έπιασαν. Ένας απόλυτα ολοκληρωμένος δίσκος μιάμισης ώρας !!Μια βόλτα στο δάσος των Μυστών θα σε πείσει για την αξία τους.

…και ένας ακόμα που δεν χαιρέτισα και παρεξηγήθηκε.

2. Agatus -The Eternalist

Το είδος BM των Agatus δεν είναι το αγαπημένο μου. Οι Agatus όμως το κάνουν πολύ άμεσο και απλό που δεν σταματάς να τον ακούς. Από το πρώτο άκουσμα ευχάριστος και επικά καλός δίσκος .

III. Οι τρελοί μας συγκάτοικοι.

Πολλές και καλές κυκλοφορίες από ντόπιους μουσικούς το 16’. Ποιον να πρωτοχωρέσεις σε λίγες γραμμές?   Sarabante, Ruined families, KΑΤΑΧΝΙΑ, Minerva Superduty, Οδός 55? Εσάς έτσι και αλλιώς θα σας έχω από κοντά.

IV. To κουτσομπολιό της γειτονιάς…

Δείξε μου μια λίστα που έχει στα τοπ 5 της το καινούριο Metallica -  Hardwired...to Self-Destruct και εγώ θα σου δείξω μια μαύρη λίστα και μια τροχοπέδη στο θωρηκτό που λέγεται Μετάλ ανεξαρτήτου είδους. Ξεκολλάτε πια!  

V. Τα κοινόχρηστα.

Το Black Metal  είναι από τα λίγα πράγματα που θα πάνε καλά και το 17’ και για αυτό δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία. Για όλα τα υπόλοιπα δεν ξέρω, δεν είμαι σίγουρος ότι τα θέλουμε τόσο...  Καλή χρονιά και εξεγερμένη τόσο πολιτικά ,όσο και μουσικά Blackers μου!

It was time to launch a new column. Every year there will be a mini- music retrospection that I have in my fucking mind. My smoke is turned on and I hold my first sip of my third beer.

I.                    When the underground scheme:

1. Ultha - ConvergingSins

The more amazing than ever Ultha are inspired and their Shadows are cursed. Definitely best moment.

2. Morrow - Covenant OfTeeth

When I listen to Crust/ Punk bands including violin I can remember a lot of o bands that I like. Morrow are one of them. The outcome points out that their not here to joke but create real music.

3. Mizmor – Yodh

This blackened Doom fits me. Mizmor doesn’t care about pretending anything that their not. Do you wanna take out your blackness? You will without ornaments.

II.                  The good neighbor of the floor above…

1 .Cultes des Ghoules - Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love

CdG casted a spell and it worked! This is definitely an ultra-well developed album. A walk around the forest of the mystics will certainly convince you.

… And one more that deserves attention.

2. Agatus -TheEternalist

That genre of Black Metal of Agatus is not my favorite. However their music is so immediate and simple make you listening them without stop. A pleasant epic album.

III.                Our crazy cohabitants :

A lot good realeses of local musicians of 2016. Who can you skip? Sarabante , Ruined families, KΑΤΑΧΝΙΑ , Minerva Superduty, Oδός 55 ? In the rear future there many to be toled.

IV.                Neighborhood’s gossip

Show me a list that includes Metallic - Hardwired...to Self-Destruct in its top 5 and I’ll show you a black list and an obstacle to metal regardless and every subgenres. Come the fucking on!

V.                  The shared expenses

Black Metal is one thing that will rise again in 2017 and there is no doubt. In contrast, the political/society issues remain unaltered. Maybe we don’t really want the change. Wish you a revolting New Year Blackers.

Αυτό που απ την μια  οι Deluge είναι εσωστρεφής μπάντα και μέσα σε δευτερόλεπτα αλλάζει το σκηνικό σε ορμητικό χείμαρρο , πολύ με πωρώνει . Είναι επίσης περίεργο πoυ, ambient ατμόσφαιρα συναντά Hardcore riffs χωρίς το αποτέλεσμα να είναι κιτς . Το βασικότερο στοιχείο του δίσκου είναι το νερό ,πράγμα που κάνει τον ήχο ρευστό κάτω από το δέρμα σου.

I really enjoy the tranformation of the Deluge. The same moment that they are  they torpid seem to explode like a fierce torrent. What is also strange is when ambient atmosphere meets hardcore riffs without turning the outcome odd. The feature of the album is the water, making the sound flow beneath your skin.

Η μουσική έχει  την μαγεία  σε κάνει να αισθάνεσαι ότι βρίσκεσαι σε δυο διαφορετικά σημεία ταυτόχρονα. Με το που πατάς το play στους  Ramaskri βρίσκεσαι Σουηδία ,  αυτό ήταν.  Είναι άτομα που  να κραστάρουν σε υπόγεια αντίστοιχα με αυτά που γουστάρω να συχνάζω εγώ. To ίδιο κοινό, οι ίδιοι άνθρωπο είναι εκεί μαζί με μένα και περνάμε καλά. Αυτός ο συγχρωτισμός, είναι βιωματικός και ο Crust-er ξέρω ότι θα  με καταλάβει.

Music has the ability to make you feel that you are in two different places at the same time. The moment you press “play” at the Ramaskri you travel to Sweden – as simple as that. These guys crust-ing in underground places similar to that  I also like to hang out. The audience – same guys like me – is there and having the best time. You can comprehend the interaction only by experience and I know the Crust-er feels the same.

Οι Murg δείχνουν μεγάλο σεβασμό στην Black Metal ιστορία. Φρενήρεις ρυθμοί , θρηνητικά φωνητικά και οι φλεγόμενες μπότες να έχουν την τιμητική τους εδώ.  Η επιθετική διάθεση και η έκταση  του δίσκου προέρχεται απ’ την ηχώ.  Σαν κάτι που πλησιάζει απειλειτικα .Ο λύκος και η αρκούδα (Varg & Björn) δεν θα μπορούσαν να συνδυάζονται καλυτέρα.A Roar from the woods.

The Murg show great respect to the history of Black Metal. Rythms in frenzy, mourning vocals and the boots on fire, all play a leading part. The aggressive mood and the album range come from the echo. Like something approaches in a threatening way. The wolf and the bear (Varg & Björn) couldn't combine better.A Roar from the woods.

Glen and Precipice by Deafest

On February 23rd 2016, Deafest released "Glen and Precipice" their fourth full-length album. As some of you may or may not know, Deafest, a black metal group from Colorado, United States; is all about nature, and the landscapes that portray true beauty. This new release starts off strong with the pure raw Deafest sound we've all come to know and love, while carrying a new kind of clarity that previous releases may not have been so prevalent with. If you take the time to listen through Deafest's entire discography you'll hear the transformations just as you've seen nature change, and the earth change with each passing day. Chase of Deafest is very much an active member in The Black Metal Alliance, as well as The Dark Skies Above Us, which I can say I've had the honor and the privilege of working alongside him with TDSAU's Resistance Anti-NSBM Compilation Volume IV, as well as the BMA's Crushing Intolerance Volume III. Truly a great musician, but most importantly a great person. Now to return from my digression; "Glen and Precipice" is an astound work of art, that I hold very close to my heart, there are so many emotions captured within the riffs of this short masterpiece. I very much truly mean masterpiece as well; this album will take you on an emotional journey through the valleys, "Hollers" over mountain tops soaring high into the bright sunlight to leave you back down in the valley in the furthest reaches from the warmth of the sun. Where your heart will ache and mourn for our beautiful earth, as you sit back and watch humanity destroy the one thing they have left; then when the chords and the atmosphere lifts your spirits again, you'll sit high above the mountain tops at one with nature. The Dark Skies Above Us - Resistance: ANTI​-​NSBM Volume 4

Ορμώμενοι από το γράμμα του Francesco Puglisi ( συλληφθέντα από τον  Ιούνιο του 13’) η κοινότητα του The Dark Skies Above Us αποφάσισε να στείλει τα έσοδα στην οικογένεια της κοπέλας και συντρόφου του – Paola Ferla ,για την κάλυψη των εξόδων της κηδεία της. Εγώ από την μεριά μου, θα ήθελα ευχαριστήσω τον LifeSuspended και τις μπάντες για την ανιδιοτελή οργάνωση και προθυμία τους στο παρών εγχείρημα .

Fungal - Evergreen Refuge: Knee Deep in Spores

Recently released by Evergreen Refuge, "Fungal" is an absolutely astounding piece of musical expression; light, whimsical, dark, and extraordinarily beautiful. This masterful work strikes down to the core of ones being, grabbing your heart by the tiny threads of muscle it beats with and rips the tears straight from your eyes. Many of you will feel this work as it was meant to be felt, not just listening, but living within the chords, swimming in its aura. Let nature speak to you, don't just listen to it's words; listen to it's emotion. Listen to its tale of humanity's destruction of the earth, listen to its heartbreak as we destroy the only habitat we have. Witness the miracle that Fungi and other molds perform every day as they break down civilization's wastes, and landscapes; watch mother nature take back what's rightfully hers. Evergreen Refuge has really spoken volumes in this piece. In all their volumes a deep-rooted message exists, when asked what this message is Dylan Rupe of Evergreen Refuge replied, The vision of Evergreen Refuge is to connect myself and the listener to the wildness from which civilization has strayed us away from. It is a deep journey into the heart--into the the evolution--of the human animal. Evergreen Refuge seeks not so much to portray as it seeks to beg the listeners to dig deeper within themselves and within the wildness around them. I cannot tell the listeners what to feel or think, especially being entirely instrumental. I hope, however, that the music is a conduit for a deeper being... hope, that the fungal organisms of this planet would be able to break down the remains of a fallen civilization once the earth rids itself of humanity. When many people look to the stars and see the vastness of the universe, the myths of anthropocentrism and the self-importance of humans and human society begin to dwindle. My hope is that "Fungal" offers some perspective by looking below rather than above, to achieve these same ideas. When thinking about the amount of fungal beings on the earth, their resilience, and their ability to decompose, civilization begins to feel, to me, very fragile."
