Chambers is so @916 in the Pearl now

Above image: James Pustorino, "All Things conceived shall realize liberation," acrylic and pencil on denril, 54" x 110", courtesy of the artist. Amazing idea to show James for more than just one month- April 2 - May 30, 3009: Chambers@916 presents "Cosmic Strips," works in acrylic and pencil on denril by James Pustorino. The large scale works will be rotated periodically throughout the two month exhibition(fun idea).
The "Cosmic Strips" are a cosmology in 20 parts that presents Pustorino's perception of the universe in a multi-layered, visual narrative influenced by orchestral fantasias, comics and science texts. Using abstract painting, observational rendering, and graphic forms, each panoramic panel is like a super-sized comic strip that presents a story full of symbols and abstract language.
Opening reception: April 2, 2009 6-9pm.
Artist reception: May 7, 2009 6-9pm.
Gallery hours: 11am-5:30pm, Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment.
I am so glad that Chambers is doing well in their "smart" new location- visit them ...I hope they have cute Champers again...

Preview Wednesday Invite

Some of you know I love popping into galleries and just looking or saying hi. Though often I have questions about the exhibit or show, whether it's the cost of some of the pieces, the artist process, material selection, shipping, style, ect-I exhaust myself. MaryAnn Deffenbaugh, one of the owners of PULLIAM DEFFENBAUGH is always so nice to me and is patient with all of my questions. I am not sure if you are on PULLIAM DEFFENBAUGH GALLERY's email list but it is worth it, you get to come to previews and avoid those wild First Thursday crowds! Maybe I will see you Wednesday, March 4, 5:30 - 7:30 pm for a preview reception of Toshiko Takaezu and Yoshihiro Kitai's work and their hot gallery artists, More images are on their website www.pulliamdeffenbaugh.com Bring a few questions for MaryAnn- xoxo, Buzz by Brian

I Heart Graffiti

I was walking yesterday to the nau warehouse sale with my Popular friends raving about Portland and how we love being overwhelmed by so many options of things to do on a Sunday. As we crossed over Northwest Broadway we started into a debate about graffiti in PDX and its proper place.  (I of coarse wearing my Jean-Michel Basquiat jacket.)  I won the debate by overwhelming them with graffiti history, siting that schools have classes that teach or discuss it, I raved about the interviews in Parallel Strokes,  name dropped I know someone that knows Banksy, I met fab 5 freddy, and started talking more locally about installations and how they need to see the movie Wild Style. They rebutted by reminding me about the upcoming 8 local PDX cleanups. I still won.
