tEEth Performs in NYC

Photo by Aaron Busch. Congratulations to Angelle and Phillip for their hard work, creative ideas, and constant passion to create new art. If you haven't heard already Grub, the newest work by tEEth opens March 19th in NYC at The Joyce Theatre. (Buzz-So all the the dancers are from Portland but I hear one person asked for one way ticket...) tEEth will also be going on the road to The Fuse Box Festival in Texas soon! tEEth has been getting some other other News:
The Seattle Times ((View full article)) » http://rubberteeth.com/pdf/grub_seattle_times.jpg
"... The choreography is finely and brutally executed, with rugged partnering and tight choral movement energetically performed by six fearless dancers..."

The Seattlest ((View full article)) » http://rubberteeth.com/pdf/grub_seattlest.jpg
"... tEEth have created a polyvalent work, which is constantly referencing and interrogating its own themes and ideas. It's dynamic and creative and funny and definitely worth seeing."

The Stranger, Seattle ((View full article)) » http://rubberteeth.com/pdf/Grub_seattle_stranger.jpg
"tEEth isn't a dance company-it's a dream machine."

Seattle Magazine ((View full article)) » http://rubberteeth.com/pdf/grub_seattle_magazine.jpg
"The company brought both wit and terror to the stage... and a gorgeous sound track."

White Bird Uncaged

What are you looking at? anoukvandijk dc ! I chirped with Barney today, the White Bird belonging to Paul and Walter of White Bird Dance today... and learned so much- you got this email reminding you to check out STAU at Oaks Park March 12-20th right?
White Birds next season is still in the pipeline... stay tuned to their site (or my blog). But you might be interested in some of the details about anoukvandijk. WhiteBird Dance is holding the shows at the dance pavilion at Oaks Park in the middle of the amusement park down by the Willamette River. Since there is no real lobby inside, they’re taking over an arcade tent outside the pavilion, with a bunch of cool video game machines, which will all be free so that people can play them before the performance. The dance company doesn’t want anyone inside the venue until 10 minutes before the show, so this is a great way for people to get the complete amusement park experience while they are waiting.
*Then, during the performance – they are actually going to have spies in the audience called “infiltrators”, who look and act like audience members, but then start taking part in the performance spontaneously once the seats have been removed. It’s going to be pretty out there –the company is very strict about what it wants – no shoes for anyone in the performance space, must wear socks, it’s definitely going to be a very different experience from most White Bird shows. Buy your tickets today! (They need lots of volunteers, so if you’re interested in helping out either an infiltrator or just a normal usher let them know!)

Equal Footing Dance Project

(rehearsal snap shot, xoxo)
I just heard from a California friend that there is some extra moving and shaking in Berkeley. Lisa Wymore, of San Francisco-based dance/theater company Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts is directing a four-piece production titled Equal Footing. Each work will explore the relationship between musicality and the danced body. Collaborations include award-winning bay area choreographer Joe Goode and cellist Joan Jeanrenaud (founding member of the Kronos Quartet), Lisa Wymore and her performers, Annie Rosenthal Parr and composer Sheldon Smith, and a special work in conjunction with legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham's residency at UC Berkeley. The latter will present excerpts of Cunningham's choreography and music composed by graduate students from the Berkeley Music Department and Center for New Music and Audio Technology. The show runs April 17-26 at Zellerbach Playhouse in Berkeley, CA. So who's in?

NINE sounds more that FINE

You will to wait to see this show until May. But it's never too early to buy tickets. I got mine for May 3rd already...Portland-based Pendulum Dance Theatre is celebrating its ninth
professional season with NINE, an evening of unconfined circus, on
May 2nd & 3rd. The work will be presented in the intimate setting
of the Pendulum rehearsal space, at The French American International
School in northwest Portland.

Established in 2000, Pendulum Dance Theatre has spent the past nine
years melding contemporary circus with dance and theatre, creating
high-flying shows for theatres, festivals, schools, and events.

Where in the World is Matt?

Where in the hell is Matt? Where is Brian really? Eric loves watching this video over and over. For many of my friends it is very inspiring to watch Matt show up in the most random of places and dance with a famous momument or everyday people(snaps to Melissa, Matt's GF too). I think the song by Garry Schyman, performed by Palbasha Siddique and text from the Bengali poem Gitanjali ("Stream of Life") from Rabindranath Tagore really motivates me. Check out this other video with the lyrics. The translation is "The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers. It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow. I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment."

Project: Warehouse

A-WOL Dance Collective is rocking into 2009 showing off all their talent to Portland. You know A-WOL- Arial Without Limits- they have been doing the magical experience in West Linn- Art in The Dark! This brave group of athletes will be flying from the beams, skidding across the floor and bouncing off the ceiling of the Overton Warehouse! It's rumored you will be able to mingle with the company members, new performers, and get very close to their aerial equipment. Save the date for March for A-WOL Dance: 3-6-9.
9 Choreographers create 6 minute works featuring 3 dancers at a time.
