YANA SMAKULA: Foiled Accents with Heat Embossing

Hello everyone! This is Yana Smakula with a fun technique to bring your color layering images to a whole new level.

I love multi layer stamps, for someone who is not very good at coloring (like me), these are perfect for creating beautiful dimensional images. I always look for ways to stretch my color layering stamp sets and inks needed to stamp the images and in my previous video I shared a technique where one can use white pigment ink to stretch the color of one ink pad. Today I'm going to continue this topic but I will do something different - I will replace the top layer of color layering images with first heat embossing and later foiling.

The stamp set I am using today is one of the older sets from WPlus9 - Fresh Cut Florals. The reason I chose this set is because the third layer of most of the images in this set is represented by a single dot or several dots and these are ideal for foiling with heat embossing.

Before you jump in I should probably say that this technique is rather time consuming. You’ll need about an hour (or more if you are making die cuts for several cards) to create your card, however I do believe the result is worth every minute you spend in your craft room (and who doesn’t like some extra play with with our supplies?).

I filmed a detailed video tutorial where I walk you through the entire process and explain what you can and what you can’t (or shouldn’t) foil with the help of embossing powder and more.

Watch above or watch in HD at YouTube

To finish the cards I’m sharing today I also used a beautiful Preserves Jar Die , Hand Lettered Hello Die and stamp set as well as Shades of Peach Wool Felt. I am very happy with the quality of this felt and I was able to easily die cut even the most detailed and intricate die.

For my color combo I went with white, Last Leaf, Miami Spice and Sweet Nectar, and Hayride and Wild Mango. (You can find links to all of the supplies below) A touch of gold and silver foil really made my simple cards pops.

I created three projects in total and I went with different sentiments for each.

While foiling with the help of heat embossing is not something that will work every time (especially not something you want to use for sentiments), I do love the final look I was able to achieve on these card.

Have fun stamping! - Yana Smakula

Panda Woolly Card with Joni Andaya

Hello everyone, Joni here to share this cute felt easy to make card using the new Panda Woolly Die.

Although this die is designed for hand stitching cute little felt projects. The really nice thing about these is that the holes are big enough to make hand stitching easy, but not so big that they become obtrusive or distracting if you don't want to add the stitching.

I started by die cutting and stamping all of my pieces. I die-cut the Panda Woolly Die from several of our new Wool Felt packs. I used Black and White from The Basics, Shades of Peach (for the backing), and Shades of Pink for the nose.

I stamped the sentiment from You Equal Kind in Warm Wool PURE COLOR Dye Ink, and then die cut it using the You Equal Kind companion die. I die cut the green background using the Landscape Borders Die.

To make the panda look as if she is blushing, I added a little color to her cheeks using Little Piggy.

Next I added white enamel dots for the eyes to make them stand out and added some fuchsia ribbon for her bow to finish off the card.

I hope you guys enjoyed this easy to make felt card. Thank you for stopping by!

Have a wonderful week!

I started to create my scene by die cutting a panel of white cardstock with the Love Mom Layers rounded rectangle die. I then added some blue distress ink in a circular motion, starting in the center and moving outward. This is where I wanted the focus of the card design.

On top of the blue ink, I started to create a cluster of flowers using the upcoming You Equal Kind stamp set and dies. I placed a sweet panda, from the soon to be released Friends For All Seasons set, among the flowers. His sign is stamped with an 'I Love You' sentiment from the same set. I created a second cluster at the top left to ground my sentiment.

The sentiment You = Awesome is stamped and die cut using the coordinating dies from the You Equal Kind set. I couldn't resist adding the tiny bird holding flowers and saying,"hola"! How cute?

Now if the card isn't enough to make your recipient happy, this little plush panda will!

The new Panda Woolly Die Set is the cutest thing and perfect for use with all the new felt that is coming your way from Wplus9!

To create my plush panda I die cut the body twice out of white felt. I stitched them together with black thread and before I finished, I stuffed him with a little bit of poly-fil. I die cut all of his features out of black felt and attached them with Glossy Accents. I die cut the flower from the two colors of Shades of Pink Felt that are very similar to Little Piggy and Sweet Gelato ink, as well as the leaf from the Shades of Green felt. I added the stitching to those with coordinating thread and attached the flower to the panda with some more Glossy Accents. It was really that simple!

I hope you love him as much as I do!
