Necron 1250 COC army complete

Below is the completed army for the 1250 Great Escape Games- Contest of Champions, for Sat Jan 19th 2013. In past years they had some strict Comp rules, and this list was built with those comp rules in mind. Just recently they announced that they would not be using the comp rules. Too late now! It's all painted. In the next few weeks, I'll be going over the paint for the individual units. Until then, good luck at the COC.

Dwarf Lord - Non Metallic Metal

Reading the War of Vengeance is filling me with Dwarf pride and got me wanting to bust out the bearded ones and lay down a little paint. I've been taking a color theory class, so I decided to try out a non metallic metal technique we learned. I think he came out pretty decent. It's not something I would do army wide, but it looks very striking for a lord or hero. I would love to hear what you all think or how others have achieved the effect.

Non Metallic Silver - is a mix of scorched brown, black and white, with more white added to highlight. .
Non Metallic Gold - is Snakebite leather and white with more white added to highlight.
I glazed the runes with Gulliman Blue.
Color Theory - the model is painted in a Split complimentary #1 color harmony.

Noise Marines "LOUD" color scheme

I'm going in a completely new and fabulous direction for the boys in pink. Kick! Pop! Pow!

New codex = New color scheme! With the old codex I had this boring kind of drab Bone color going on, as shown below.
(So muted.... like a 70's sitcom)

finalized necron paint

I've been going back and forth between color ideas. Hopefully this will be the final scheme.

You may notice the overloard's staff is a bit shorter. The thing broke on me 3 times and I had to keep gluing/pining it back together. Thank you finecast.

New Necron Color Scheme

I've been trying out a few things on my necrons, and have finally (I think) come to a color scheme that I like.

Here's some test minis. Any comments/crits are welcome. Thanks!
reds & yellows are all new GW paints.

Khador: Doom Reavers

I love these miniatures. As far as units go, these guys were a deciding factor for me when it came to picking a faction. The poses are great and full of action. And the blades are just waiting for something other then a standard metallic paint job.

I wanted to achieve a magical look to the blades. Not exactly a NNM (non metallic metal) per se , but pretty much the same technique.  The first thing I did was dry brushed the skulls starting with hawk turquoise, working my way up to white.

For the blades, I used black for the shadow, white for the light with hawk turquoise in between and blended both directions.

I like how the blades came out. The only thing I would have done differently (which I will attempt on Fenris), is this:

There is a slight border around the skulls that I left dry brushed. I think It would have made a more dramatic effect if I would have reversed the blade effect on these flat parts.

++Incoming paint++ ... ++Necrons++

Here's how my Necron force is shaping up. Going for a quick rusted up look. I initially primed with a red oxide/rust color primer, which also serves as my base coat. I dipped them all in a blackish home-made wash to define the crevices. A quick drybursh of boltgun metal finishes off the main look of the bodies & weapons.  More details below....

Immortals - for the immortals & characters I added a blended green shoulder-pads.

Warriors - I painted over the rods to give them some hyro powered super soakers.

Scarabs- stole this idea from "fromthewarp". Extra scarbs casted with instamold & milliput.

WIP characters

WIP crypteks - Simply used extra overlords from Annihilation barge and swaped heads for Deathmark heads. All base tiles are from pre scored plasticard. Popped off and glued to the base in semi random fashion, finished off with sand flocking.

I finally managed to get a new camera. :) so enough of that. on with the pics. Below is my first Malifaux crew, the Lady Justice box set. I used all GW paints on these guys except for a little vallejo blue-violet on the flames. Lady J & Judge have a Wyrd graveyard base insert. The Death marshals are just flocked.

Khador: Winter Guard

For the Mother land!
I like these guys. I've read some complaints about them, but I don't see it. I especially like the dudes with the freezing puffy cheeks.

These models show of the color scheme nice. They look real good next to the Butcher, now I need to get eSorscha done!
