Day 9 - Poppies

Day 9 of 200...Just playing around with stitching.  I don't know if you know it but I love poppies.  And there are so many colors of poppies.  But for this one I did a mix of the traditional colors.

This is a 4 x 6" quilted postcard.  Another item that I really love.  Fabric postcards can be sent through regular mail.  I have sent several and they hold up really well.  Of,course they have to be fairly flat.  If they have bumpies or beads just pop them into a envelope.

I think they are great gifts to send to friends and family, little keepsakes that can be popped into a frame like below.

If you are like me and love poppies, this piece has been listed on my Etsy shop, see sidebar for the link.

I hope you have a sunny Saturday!  I'll be working on catching up on my daily works, since I'm now 1 day behind.

day 7 - I wanted to do some abstract fiber art

Day 7 of the 200...I have to tell you I am a day behind.  It has been super busy around the house and I felt alot of pressure this morning.  So get over it....I'm going to be a day behind, life happens!

Today's post is actually two 5"x7" postcards.

I know the standard postcard is 4x6", but some times there are larger ones.  Anyways these can be sent through the mail or they can be framed.

Here is what it will look like in a frame.

This frame is leaning inside my light box, not on a wall.  Every time I put it on the wall you get my reflection in the glass!  Note to self: take glass out to photo.

So with a busy life, abstract is reflective of what is going on...bright, cheerful but full of lines.

Have a happy night and let me know if you think these should be added to my Etsy shop.

Day 5 & 6 - Pinterest challenge...leaf made of tulle

I want to apologize for not posting yesterday, but my bed called to me.  I'm struggling with the chills, no fever and the only thing that feeling good is a pile of blankets on me.

So yesterday (Day 5) I did try a new recipe, thank goodness for the crockpot...here is the link for Balsamic Pot Roast.  I only ate a little yesterday, but had it tonight for dinner.

Day 6 - I wanted to play in my sewing room, but I knew it would have to be a small project.  This project was trapping fabric scraps in between layers of tulle.

I would checkout the pin to see what other things you can do.

Have a nice night, I need some rest.

Copic Friday

I get lots of questions about Copic markers and fabric.  Through out the next week I am going to test how Copics hold up on fabric.

Here is a fabric postcard that I did today.

I like to use my Copics as watercolors, soft subtle colors.  Some blog posts I have read is that you can't blend Copics on fabric.  I disagree.

However, you have to have a light hand to achieve blending.  I start with the lightest colors first.
In this case I only used two colors per section, such as, 2 green, 2 blues, and 2 yellows.

After you apply the first color, heat set and allow the fabric to cool before going to the next color.  Also another tip is not to color all the way up to the lines.  This image was an embroidery design stitched into muslin, a cheap muslin!  However, I did leave the paper interfacing on the back while coloring to absorb any extra ink.

Overall, I really like how the colored image came out.

Have a great Friday!  I didn't think about creating on week-ends...hmmm I hope I can and will have time to post.

Margarita time!

Do you feel like a margarita?

What song does this make you think of?

Wastin away again in margaritaville
Searching for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame
But I know it's nobodys fault

This month art quilt challenge was to do a song.  Well Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is so well known and sounds just like me.

And it makes me want to be on the beach under a palm tree!

So have a sunny afternoon and have a drink on me.

Send a postcard?

Have you sent postcards before?  As many of you know I have been teaching stamping classes with Close to my Heart for over 9 years.  I mainly teach card making classes, but have never created a postcard.

Since my next favorite thing is to play with fabric I was excited to go to Stateline, NV to the quilt shop Fabrics Unlimited.  They have an awesome store filled with lots of goodies for the NON TRADITIONAL quilter like me and for the traditional.  I would say this store has more items for the art quilter than any store here in Reno, NV.  Well last week she had a night to come and play and make fabric postcards.

We pulled out fabric markers, fusible backing, rubber stamps, paints, and more.
I would love to do a fabric postcard swap.
Anyone interested????

These were done in a traditional fashion with the sewing machine, but what a great way to use up some more scraps!

This particular one was done with wool roving and my new Babylock Embellisher needle felting machine!  You should checkout what this baby can do...here.

My daughter decided to do a postcard that steps out of boundaries.

So let me know if you are interested in starting a fabric postcard swap!

Sending happy thoughts your way.
