Copic Friday

I get lots of questions about Copic markers and fabric.  Through out the next week I am going to test how Copics hold up on fabric.

Here is a fabric postcard that I did today.

I like to use my Copics as watercolors, soft subtle colors.  Some blog posts I have read is that you can't blend Copics on fabric.  I disagree.

However, you have to have a light hand to achieve blending.  I start with the lightest colors first.
In this case I only used two colors per section, such as, 2 green, 2 blues, and 2 yellows.

After you apply the first color, heat set and allow the fabric to cool before going to the next color.  Also another tip is not to color all the way up to the lines.  This image was an embroidery design stitched into muslin, a cheap muslin!  However, I did leave the paper interfacing on the back while coloring to absorb any extra ink.

Overall, I really like how the colored image came out.

Have a great Friday!  I didn't think about creating on week-ends...hmmm I hope I can and will have time to post.

Monday, Monday!

It's a happy Monday!
Today I'm sharing how much I love my Singer Featherweight.
It's small, portable and only weighs 11 pounds.  This one is 60 years old and
sews like a champ.

My hubby surprised me with this for Christmas.  I haven't played that much with it until this last
month.  I took it to a sew-a-thon and have used it in the living room while we are watching
Dancing with the Star and The Voice.  It doesn't make too much noise so we can still
hear the TV!

Well this week-end I registered for an art quilt class in San Deigo, CA.  The class in being taught
by Jane LaFazio.  Go check out her blog, she is ubber talented.  Anyways, back to
my featherweight, for the class I need to bring a sewing machine.
So this week-end I was trying to figure out how to carry my quilting supplies, clothes and sewing machine onto the airplane.  The carrying case that came with my Singer has seen better days, it is 60 years old.  Well it does have a musky smell too.
I had to figure out a way to carry on this wonderful machine, because there is NO WAY I'm going to let those muscle guys toss my sewing machine into the plane and then let it tumble down the conveyor belt to baggage pick up.

So here is what my plan is...
I made this cute drawstring bag.  It is two layers of canvas and will fit nicely into my
rolling carry on bag!  It won't get scratched up or leak any sewing machine oil on my clothes.  And the best part it looks cute.

Oh I love this black and white fabric, but it needed personalization.  Out pulled my Copic markers!!
Yes, you can color on fabric.  It is much harder to get blending than paper.  I have found if
you feather your coloring, much like a paint brush that helps.  Also I would suggest heat setting the ink too.

Yes, you see pink there too because I had to make one for my friend Mary!
Here is her bag!

So there you have it, I made two simple drawstring bags with my Serger to protect
our sewing machines and whatever else is in our carry on luggage.

What fun things are you working on?

I'm SEW happy!

They are going to and are going to make cute dishtowel and card sets using fabric and Copics.

Copic and Fabric - Crazy Quilt

Today I'm sharing another Copic and fabric project.
I am calling this style Old meets New Crazy Quilting.
Why old?  Crazy quilting has been around since Victorian times.  Traditonally, they are made up of fabric scraps (Wool, silk, satin, lace, flannel and whatever you can get your hands on) and generally all hand embroidered.
So the NEW part is using a machine embroidered image as the center focal point that was colored in with my Copic markers, along with new fabric scraps and machine stitching.
I'm planning an upcoming class on fabric and Copics and this will be available in the Fall at a local quilt shop.  I'll keep you posted on the dates and in the meantime you will get to enjoy more samples!

Ok...here is a little tidbit...in traditional crazy quilts you will usually find a spider web, spider or a beetle.  I HAD to add that to mine too, however again this was done with my embroidery machine.  But I think next time I will make the spider another color so he stands out!

Copic and fabric

I'm having so much fun playing with my sewing machine that I felt I was neglecting my Copics.  In my perfect world, I would want both of them to play together and make wonderful works of arts and gifts!  I have so many ideas and more classes using the two together.

So this month, I'm am teaching a small class, Thursday the 26th, at Pickled Tink.  Here is my first class sample, I plan to make several because these little guys are so addicting! We will be making a gift bag and a card.  In this class we will have a little sewing, a little lace, stamping and coloring with Copic markers.  It should be fun!

If you would like to sign-up go to Pickled Tink website and sign up for the May 26th class.

Hope to see you there - Judy

Easter Copic Class today!

Teaching a Easter a Copic coloring class at Pickled Tink Studios in Reno, NV.  Today we are going to make a few cards using CTMH Stamp of the month stamp set Sensational Season, CTMH paper pack Sophia and Copic markers.  It is so great that I can match and blend with the Copic markers to go with any paper pack.  Either way I really like how these cards came out...
I colored each image, sponged around the edges and added a little Stickles.  Can you see these sparkly tails?  My daughter asked why I would Stickle their tails and I say why not!

And here is my favorite...Momma Bunny...
So if you are interested in learning how to color with Copics, have 3-5 friends and in the Reno area I would love to come and show you.

Here is LAST month's stamp of the month.  I have 1 available if anyone wants it for $20!

Have a Hoppy Wednesday!

Teaching a class tonight

Tonight I am teaching a Beginner Copic class at Pickled Tink Studios in Reno, NV.
It should be fun!  So if you are in the area come join us, I think thee is 1 more spot left.  And if you are not in the area and would like to contact me on the products used just shoot me an email at scrampalot@gmail.com

So on a personal note:  I have taken a few days off from blog land.  Not for bad reasons, for creative reasons.  I have been very busy creating.  So if I would stop creating and take some pictures when it is daylight I could share.  I started a love affair with fabric, ok maybe it has always been there.  There are so many colors, textures, yummy threads, buttons, oh I could just go on.  I have never had much confidence in my sewing, but I have made a couple of wall quilts before and some baby clothes when Jessi was young.  I think the workshop that I took two weeks ago, reminded me that you can sew and fabric & paper can go together!  Anyway, I have made aprons, camera strap covers and fabric flowers.  But the big news, I ordered a new sewing machine with lots and lots of stitches and embroidery functions.  Thank of all the goodies I can make.  But in the past week I haven't forgotten my paper, I have made loads of cards for the consignment shop!

So will you forgive me for taking a week off?  Will you like if my blog starts to include other projects than just cards?

Whew! What a week-end,,,

I have two things to post today.  First I want to share the new Copic challenge on Simply Scrapping Crafts.  This week I was to design a challenge where you color on fabric.  This is actually alot of fun!  Here is my tote bag.

This could make a little gift a little something more by personalizing it.  The stamp set is  a retired CTMH stamp set, but I still think it is the cutest.  I used one of those $1 tote bags that you can get at Micheal's or Joann's, not sure where I got it found it in my purge box.  Right now I'm trying to use up what supplies I do have before movers come in to pack.

Here is a close up of the bunny

When you are coloring on fabric remember that it is much harder to get a shaded look.  I found that if you use lighter colors first in a feathering motion works the best if you want shading.  Also another tip is not to color all the way up to the stamped line because the ink will spread a little.

SO...Second thing to mention is the WINNER of the new house stamp set!!  My baby Kiska chose the lucky winner...Shelia H.  Please email me you address and I will pop it in the mail to you this week!
I hope to give a few more things away, because I would rather some of my goodies go to happy homes.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

It's Twisted Thursday...the challenge is on

Well GUESS WHAT... you're in for a treat this week? S2G wants to  GIVE you ALL a FREE DIGI STAMP to play along with us this week. Shirley's 2 Girls are giving you you're very own DIGI of the new CHESHIRE CAT! Use this crazy cat and play along with us this week in our Twisted Thursday Challenge.

The Challenge this week is an optional sketch for you to use and our TWIST! The twist this week is to use STRIPES....and guess what the CHESHIRE CAT has STRIPES built in! Voila you are ready to play so no excuses not to play along with us this week! GO grab those COPICS, WATERCOLORS, OR PENCILS and post your Fab Creation at S2G Blog.  You'll have until Wednesday, March 17th to play along with us.  Then out of all the entries 2 lucky winners will win a free digi from S2G web store.

Enough talk...Let me show you what I did with the awesome image!!
I really wanted to do an orange kitty, but my daughter insisted that the Cheshire cat in the new movie was grey with a hint of teal.  So we compromised grey kitty with purple stripes and teal in the paper.  And this paper I found in my cleaning & purging of my scrap space, it is from The Angel Company a few years ago.  Love finding little surprises.

Copics used: C-1, C-3, C-5, V-01, V-04, V06 - CAT
BG13, BG15, BG18 - POST
G20, G21, G21 - SIGN

So go have a Happy Twisted Thursday! - Judy

Sweet little Rosey

I think the card turned out so cute and look no embellishments!  What?  I always embellish.  I have a few Dr. offices that purchase cards from me and sometimes they don't like all the bumpy's.  I do!  But this card just really pops in person.  The puppy image is from Fred She Said Designs - Rosey with flower digi...you can see her HERE.  Then, I stamped the CTMH sentiment (TLC) above the puppies head, which that is the main reason to use acrylic stamps, they are so flexible.  I love using my stamps along with the digital stamps, the best of both worlds.  The patterened paper is from 3 Bugs in a Rug.

Just a reminder that Fred She Said has a monthly challenge going on, so go join in...HERE.

Yeah for Spring Break! - Judy

Organize your Copics

At this time I have approx. 160 Copic markers.  I needed portable storage for my markers because sometimes I like to take them downstairs and color while the family is watching TV.
Close to my Heart's My Acrylix Organizer is great for this, besides storing your stamp sets.  Tell me what other purposes you could use this organizer for?
