Are you ready for some football?
No-this time we aren't talking about BYU football. We refuse to talk about them after their pathetic loss to Utah State. We are actually talking about Dear Old Davis High School. I read online the other day that they are undefeated in their season this year. So-being the dedicated alum that I am-I convinced Scott to take Bridger & me to watch them play their rivals (Viewmont Vikings) last Friday night at Viewmont.
I didn't realize until we got there that this was Bridger's first football game! An important rite of passage for a little boy! He was sporting a brown and gold hat for the occasion--Davis High's colors. (A hat that my mom got on her mission to Peru only a couple of years ago. ;) Right Mom?)
Patrick and Megon were nice enough to come to the game with us. Poor Megon really doesn't like football so she was a trooper. For some unknown reason I didn't get a picture of them. I'll work on getting pictures of other people besides Bridger. :)
It was a little surreal to be watching students from my old high school. It reminded me of how much I loved going to Davis and the traditions that us 'Darts' had. While attending I always felt so 'old'. But, after running into about 15 kids I used to babysit, I couldn't help but think thoughts like...
"They give these people driver's licenses?! And I'm on the road with them?!"
"How is it that their parents let them have a boyfriend? They act like they are 12!"
"WAY too much public affection. Stop it. Ew. Stop it now."
"Is it possible that I was ever that oblivious to what was going on around me?"
"Do these kids even watch the game or do they just come to flirt?"
"That girl needs to put on some clothes. She is going to freeze."
"Oh the cheerleaders...some things really never change..."
"That kid looks exactly like his older brother...exactly."
"I wonder if Mr. McFabulous still coaches the football team. Man, he was good lookin'." (ha! Maybe I'm not as mature as I thought! )
The other thing I realized is how community oriented Kaysville is. Here we were at an 'away' game and I saw tons of people I knew-parents of my friends, old neighbors, local government leaders. The more impressive part is that not all of these people have students that currently attend the high school. They simply go to support the school in their community. It is for that and so many other reasons that I love where I grew up. :)
Davis High once again came out victorious with a 4th quarter touchdown that gave them a 27-20 win. The referees were actually quite ridiculous (marking the ball 2 or 3 yards off of where it actually came down) but the Darts still managed to pull out the win thanks to a couple of key interceptions. Unfortunately one of the students was badly injured during the game and taken away by ambulance. I'm not sure who it was but I think he broke his leg...ouch!
All in all it was a fun night. When the game was over we spent a few minutes at Patrick & Megon's and then head home to put the little squirt to bed.
And in other exciting Friday news...Bridger's new cousin, Emry Meadows, was born! Sunday night we received a few pictures of her and she is so stinkin' adorable. I can't get over her little cheeks! :) Congrats to Megan & Dave (and big brothers Porter & Logan) for your newest addition. We can't wait to meet her!
