Just Us Girls #166

Today's Just us Girl's challenge is brought to us by Lynn and she chose a technique I use all the time: embossing.  A nice easy challenge for this busy time of year - thank you Lynn!!  I tossed in the added bonus of no snowflakes wink, wink.

Loved my first card, but after I had it all glued together, the stark realization that I had totally forgotten to add any embossing hit me- ugh!  Ever do that?!  So...you got to see that card on Thursday, and I had to go back to the drawing board LOL!  Needless to say, I had a big sticky note sitting right in front of me so I wouldn't forget a second time!

My original plan was to emboss the large, white, background panel.  However, it just wasn't working with the card (from my perspective anyway) so I embossed the circle and promptly proceeded to flip it over and use the debossed side.  There was just something working against me on this challenge I tell you LOL!

At least this wonderful Waltzing Mouse sketch didn't give me any grief!  I combined it with this week's Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge to make a monochromatic card.  Had great fun pulling out my beloved Verve "U" die out again.  Love that die!  A little foreshadowing here...wink, wink!

For some inspiration to get you going, just hop on over to the Just Us Girls blog, and check out what the Design Team have created.  Then put your creative genes to work and add your card/project to the challenge post on the JUGS blog for the chance to be selected as Chick of the Week.

Hope your Christmas preparations are well under way.  Off to my son's soccer game today (fingers crossed for no rain), doing some baking with my daughter, and then trying to figure out how to replace a string of lights that burned out on my Christmas tree without having to totally remove all the decorations in order to do it!!  Wish  me luck!!

You're My Cup of Tea

WMS

I have only played along with the weekly Waltzing Mouse sketches once so thought I would give it another try as I liked this week's sketch.

My MFT Always Time for Tea set was still sitting out on my desk (thanks again Vickie!!), so I decided to use it as the tea pot worked wonderfully with this sketch.

The papers are retired Stampin' Up DSPs, and since I was thinking of "High Tea" at the Empress Hotel in Victoria while making this card, out came my Martha Stewart doily punch.

The Empress Hotel is such a beautiful, historical landmark!  If you are ever in Victoria, British Columbia it is well worth shelling out the big bucks just to be able to walk through the ornate lobby and enjoy High Tea in the gorgeous tea room.  Mind you, I'm pretty sure my black and pink tea pot would not make the tea room cut as it is a bit out there for High Tea LOL!

I'm a day behind due to the short week as I keep thinking it's yesterday!  Lots to get done so gotta run.  Wishing you a great day!

Nuts About You

Yet another sketch from last year that I had to tuck away for future used due to the insane business of December which lead to very little stamping time.

The round circle was taunting me to use the "U" die once again, but alas, my "U" Die support group meetings have been doing their job LOL!

I've  had my eye on these adorable acorn dies and matching stamp set from PTI for a while now, and can gratefully say some birthday money provided them a one way ticket to my house - happy, happy, joy, joy!  Lots of great sentiments and different styled "tops" for the acorns so you can mix and match to your heart's content.

I knew the "nuts about you" sentiment would be great fun to use for a Valentine's Day card - thus the red acorns were born LOL!  Still playing with polka dots and paired them with stripes this time.  A fun, simple card that was great fun to make :)

Color Dare 80

COLOR DARE 80
Poppy Parade
Pear Pizzazz
Chocolate Chip
Very Vanilla

I combined this week's Color Dare with this week's WaltzingMouse Sketch because the sketch screamed Christmas trees when I saw it and the colours were prefect.  Don't you just love it when the sketch makes the card for you :)  In addition, with this past weekend being our Canadian Thanksgiving, (lots of fun family time and my hubby the chef made a fabulous meal) it was a crazy busy weekend with very little stamping time, so a CAS card fit the bill perfectly :)

I embossed each tree with a different pattern, added some bling to the top of each tree, outlined the image with a black fine tipped felt pen, and presto, I had a great CAS Christmas card :)  This one may very well become one of my Christmas cards this year as it is easy to make and mail friendly - double bonus!

The rest of the Team has lots of inspiration for you.  You can check out their creations here:

We'd love you to join us!  Simply create a card using this week's colours and add your card to InLinkz on the The Colour Dare Blog.  If  you are uploading to a public gallery, please make sure to use the keyword CD80.   Each week, Riley will select a Featured Stamper and showcase your card on her blog.

Have a fabulous day :)
