Colour Throwdown #420

I was swooning when I saw this colour combination - it is sooo pretty!!  Will definitely be using this combination again!

 photo CTD420pic.jpg

I found an old Sweet Sunday Sketch I liked (actually love Karen's sketches and have a ton saved on Pinterest) and paired it with the perfect piece of designer paper and then went from there.  The sentiment is from Verve's Beautiful Things.  I'm saving this in my stash to give to my daughter when her first set of university finals hit as a little encouragement to her :)

Now for the CTD rules:  Once you've finished your card or other paper crafted project, add a direct link to your creation using the Inlinkz tool at the bottom of the Colour Throwdown post.  And, don't forget to use the keyword CTD420 if you upload your project to an online gallery, or hashtag on social media with #ctd420 and/or #colourthrowdown.  Challenge guidelines are in the right sidebar on the Colour Throwdown Challenge Blog in case you have any questions.

Noted below are the Design Team members who are sure to have lots of inspiration for you!

Mojo Throwdown

This week is contest week over on the  Mojo Monday blog so the housework took a back seat to getting a card done before the weekend craziness hits.

I combined it with this week's Color Throwdown as I have the MME line on the photo and it was a no brainer as to what papers to use.

I love Verve's Words of Wisdom set and this sentiment was a perfect fit for the space I had.  I cheated a bit by adding a yellow butterfly, but made up for it with the turquoise ribbon - or so I tell myself  LOL!

You already know about my busy weekend so I won't be around until it is over as my craft area is also our spare room and with company over for three nights, that means I don't get to stamp...the upside, I can spend some time reading the Hunger Games trilogy :)

Thanks for sharing a bit of your day with me and I'll be back with a new card as soon as I can.

Techno Throwdown

CTD

This week's Techno Stamper Monday Lunchtime sketch was one I wanted to use as I had a hankering to use Stampin' Up's Season of Friendship tree and the large panel fit the bill.  I paired it with the wonderful combination for this week's Colour Throwdown.   However, that was when things came to a grinding halt!

Ever had one of those cards that just works you over?!   Since I didn't want to be outdone by some paper and ink (I know, sad statement LOL) and I was too stubborn to toss it out and start again, I pressed on....mercilessly letting the illusion of getting the card to work out torture, taunt and challenge me to get it right.  I almost didn't post it, but decided I should just as a reminder of how some times things fall together and other times your creative gears get ground but good.

I think my troubles began when I used white instead of vanilla and then realized my error and had to work it in - first ugh!  Things continued to be issues from there.....I didn't have Basic Grey or Red Riding Hood Ink so had to sub in colours; my tree image was bigger than I remembered but I was determined to use the image so the sketch got pushed to the limits; the teeny, tiny red sentiment panel overpowered the tree so I played around with different cording, ribbon etc. across the vanilla panel and settled on the twine; the tree was still getting overpowered so I added black half pearls to the base of each leaf  to bring it out a bit more; tree didn't feel "grounded" so I added the little strip of black scallops at the bottom to ground it and get my "rule of three" going.  After trudging through the above issues, I think I appeased the competitive gene in me enough to call it a card.  Not one that will win first prize, but at least I got a participation ribbon LOL!

Thanks for listening to my woes :)  Hopefully it encouraged you in some small way and provided you with a laugh as you pictured an obsessed, crazy woman (waving madly at you) competing against an inanimate object called paper!  Trusting my next card will be a much more enjoyable experience - so there, paper LOL!

Inkspirations Sketch Challnege

I had a lot of fun with this sketch.  Most likely due to the fact that there were  no skewed panels to deal with LOL.  Some nice straight lines, just the way I like it, and thus the card came together quickly.

I combined the sketch with last week's Color Throwdown as I had the perfect piece of DP I could use (another bit of my Costco pack used up - yeah!!).  I also pulled out Verve's Petals and Stems, the very first Verve flower set I bought a few years back.  It's such a fun image, the flowers are easy to cut out and I still love using it to this day :)

My crimper was calling my name again, so I crimped the horizontal panels, added some ruffled ribbon at the base of the flowers as "grass" with a bit of a punched border and some buttons to finish things off.  Another card to remind me Spring is on its way, and reminding I need!  We are in a deep freeze here on the West Coast (well for us anyway!).  Hitting -12C to -15C tonite with the wind chill - brrr!!!  I will no doubt lose a few of the plants in my garden with those temps.  Haven't gone anywhere without a warm drink in my hands the last few days as I am a total wimp in the cold!  Even the cat won't go outside LOL!

The rest of the Design Team has some great inspiration to get you going on this week's sketch.

Throwing Down My Mojo

This week is Mojo Monday challenge time which means a chance to win some free Verve so I'm a playin' :)

I combined the sketch with this week's Color Throwdown.  They were a great mix of colours and though I had to sub a few colours, I think it worked.

Please excuse the very sad job on the border punching.  I don't have the corner punch yet and it shows - ugh!  Tried doing it free hand and would get one end to work and not the other, or one side and not the other and a whole mess of other combinations which didn't add up to any semblance of uniformity so I gave up and what you see is what you get for now.  The bottom right hand corner was a bit bare so I turned the corner and added a button.  Thanks to Julee for her continued generosity in the Mojo challenges.  Love that girl and her Verve :)

Thanks for fluttering by (sorry, couldn't resist) and enjoy your day.

Color Throwdown A La Verve

This is my second post of the day as I'm making good progress on the Verve sketches :)  I combined the second Verve release sketch with this week's Color Throwdown.  I just love fall colours (happy sigh...) and and this one reminded me of the colours of the maple trees on our street.

I created the background panel using the leaf image from Stampin' Up's Season of Friendship set and this wonderful Plain Jane was the prefect sentiment for a Thanksgiving themed card, especially since next weekend is Thanksgiving up here in Canada.

Since the leaves had dots on them I used my Swiss Dots embossing folder on the vanilla panel to tie things together and added this yummy red, satin ribbon for a pop of color.  A few half pearls on the sentiment panel and I was good to go.

Two down and three to go LOL!  Back tomorrow with my next card.

Colour Throwdown Meets Just Add Ink

I loved this week's Colour Throwdown as well as the Just Add Ink sketch so a double challenge card was in order.

I didn't have pumpkin pie so I had to go with Only Orange and it was a stinker of a colour to photograph - ugh!!   Did the best I could to tone it down in Photoshop, but it still looks brighter and darker than it actually is on the card - trust me on that LOL!

Being that I am still on a Vintage Vogue kick (sorry....just love this set!!), I decided to ink up two of the stamps in the set which haven't seen any love yet.  The vine image is stamped in VersaMark on the right hand side of the blue panel (bit hard to see, but it shows up much more in real life and balances off the ribbon wonderfully) and the friend stamp fit perfectly in the half circle.

Since I had so much fun making the ruffled ribbon on my last card, I decided to do it again, only this time with a wider ribbon.  Love how much dimension it gives a card!  May have to get some more double sided tape at this rate LOL!

Kids are counting how many days of school are left and I am still in deep denial about it LOL!  Weather has been yucky for weeks now, however, when it is rainy out it does make it a lot easier to stay inside and stamp!

Have a fabulous day, and consider this card made for all of you, my cyber friends, as a thank you for your visits and comments on my blog (((hugs))).

Spring Fling

Another wonderful sketch by Mercy this week, though I did have to ponder this one a bit due to the side panels.  I originally wanted to put a butterfly in the oval but a few others beat me to it - a hazard when one does not do the sketch on the day it's released LOL!  So I merrily went to flowers because the temps have been so warm here it feels like Spring!  I also used Colour Throwdown #79.  What a wonderful mix of colours.

My main panel came together wonderfully and I was able to use one of my favorite Penny Black floral stamps called Blush - very appropriate for this colour combo :D   The red oval gave me a bit of grief as it is such a strong colour against the other two in this combination that it needed to be balanced off.  After some fiddling with various options, I settled on the two thin strips of red at the top and bottom to hem things in.  Since I didn't have butterflies as my focal image, I decided to add them elsewhere - ha!  Love these Martha Stewart Butterflies and they filled things in very nicely.  I really tried to get ribbon on  this card because if felt a bit naked, but it just didn't work so I left things as they were.

Thanks for your continued support through your visits and comments (((hugs)))
