Reaper's Evil Toys Painted

This past week I painted up Reaper's pack of "Evil Toys" to use as treasure tokens for December's Ghost Archipelago game-slash-Christmas party.  The scenario will be The Island of Misfit Toys, and the players will be trying to gather as many of the toys to "save" them from the island and its evil ruler King Moonracer.
L to R: Evil Rubber Duck, Evil Teddy Bear, Evil Jack-in-the-Box, Evil Cymbal Monkey, My Little Evil Pony, and Slinky Hell Hound.

I also painted, to add to the mix, the headless gingerbread-man from Reaper's "Familiars Pack VI"

Reaper Bones 5 Kickstarter Has Record First Day!

Just wanted to let everyone know that yesterday Reaper launched their Bones 5 Kickstarter with overwhelming success, reaching a record $1,000,000 in only about 7 hours!  The amount pledged is now passed 1,2000,000 and still going strong.  Also, they have reached the 10,000 backer milestone in the first day as well.

The Kickstarter runs through November 2nd so there is still plenty of time to get on board with these excellent deals!  To find out more head on over to the Kickstarter page:  Bones 5

Here is a current look at the Core Set; a great deal at $120, and sure to get even better with a whole month left to go!   There are also a lot of great Add-Ons that have been unlocked as well.

Reaper "Finaela, 1/2 Elf Pirate" Figure Painted for Ghost Archipelago

This past week I painted the Reaper metal figure, "Finaela, 1/2 Elf Pirate".  While I usually paint their Bones figures, it was a nice change of pace to paint one of their metal ones.   While she will probably see more immediate use in Ghost Archipelago, I have a long term plan to eventually do a Fantasy Tavern Battle with "Blood & Swash".

Painting Reaper's "Dark Maiden" as a Frostgrave Construct

Ever since I started working on my Frostgrave waterfront last year, I have thought that the Reaper "Dark Maiden" figure would make a cool addition to my Frostgrave figure collection; taking the roll of either a dockside Construct, or even a Wraith.  I was lucky enough to pick one up in a trade a while back, and it's been lingering on my painting table until I built up the courage to tackle it.  I finally decided with the River scenario from the Frostgrave Thaw of the Lich Lord  supplement on our schedule for next month, that it was time to build up my courage and tackle this beautiful figure.
In mulling over paint schemes, I decided that I wanted to do something like the grayish-brown of the masthead shown on the shipwreck of the Charlotte during the opening scenes of the movie "National Treasure."
This seemed simple enough, just some brown and grey drybrushing over a dark base.  The hard part was going to be that I wanted to make it look possessed, with glowing eyes and glowing swords; and Object Source Lighting (OSL) still is not a strong technique for me.
So I began by assembling the model and then priming it with flat white spray paint.  I then painted the entire thing with Americana "Mississippi Mud", followed by a complete wash with Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash.
Then, when the wash was dry, I drybrushed the figure with Americana "Neutral Grey", followed by Americana "Barn Wood", and lastly Americana "Dove Grey".
I then worked on the metal parts; painting them first with Americana "Asphaltum", followed by splotchy areas of Crafter's Edition "Spice Brown", followed by more splotches of Reaper MSP "Pumpkin Orange".  I let it all dry a while then gave the metal parts a wash with Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash.
My next step was to paint her eyes and swords with Reaper MSP "Dungeon Slime".  When dry, I gave the eyes and swords a wash with Iron Wind Metals "Medium Green" ink.  When that was dry, I built up central highlights along the blades and in the eyes working from the base "Dungeon Slime up to Reaper MSP "Peppermint White".  I then gently drybrushed, using the "Dungeon Slime", anywhere I thought the glowing eyes or swords would cast their light.
I then repainted the base with Americana "Snow White", and glued on some "ice" made from letting a thick layer of clear crackle paint dry in a plastic container.
Lastly I textured the base with a mix of Citadel "Vahallan Blizzard" textured paint, and regular White paint. The next day I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote.
I'm really happy with how it turned out.   While I wish it had turned out a little more aged grey, and less brown; I still think it looks properly demonic. :)

Last 3 Days for Mine Themed Dungeon from Reaper & Secret Weapon

I just wanted to give a heads-up to everyone who hasn't checked out this excellent mined themed terrain Kickstarter from Reaper and Secret Weapon Games, that there is only 3 days left to pledge!
There are currently 88 pieces in the Core Set, which is being offered for only $75!
Not shown are 3 stair piece additions, and 4 doors
Currently the stretch goal being worked towards is for three neat elevated walkway pieces for just $8.

To me, the coolest part is the  mine track add-on set, currently available for an $18 add-on amount:

Don't miss out on this great terrain opportunity, that is usable not just for fantasy gaming, but also Wild West, Pulp, Weird War II, Sci-Fi, and Pirate games.  Check it out here:

Reaper's "Christmas Eve" as Mrs Claus, Enchanter Apprentice for Frostrgave

This week I worked some more on my Christmas-themed Enchanter warband for Frostgrave, by painting the Reaper Special Edition figure, "Christmas Eve" to be the warband's apprentice, Mrs Claus.
This is the third figure I've completed for this warband.  I've painted Santa as the Enchanter wizard, and Yukon Cornelius as the group's Treasure Hunter.

Here's a portrait of the Santa and Mrs Claus side by side.  I think they go together pretty well.  I like that he's all fierce and disheveled looking, and she's all serene and tidy.  :)

Reaper's Drowned Spirit Painted for Frostgrave

This week I painted Reaper's"Drowned Spirit" figure to use as a wraith in my Frostgrave games.  This figure was newly released when I was planning my Frostgrave harbor terrain build and something about it just made it seem like the perfect fit to be a ghost to haunt the old harbor. So, I ordered it over the holidays, and just now got around to painting it.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
To help convey the frigid Frostgrave look, I added a Water Effects icicle under the rocky outcropping.  Also, I went with a glossy finish, instead of my usual matte, to help bring across the wet look.

Reaper BONES CAV Kickstarter In Its Final 10 Days

The Reaper CAV Bones Kickstarter has only got a little over a week to go, so now is the time for anyone interested in Big Stompy Robots, or Sci-Fi gaming in general, to get in and be a part of it.

While not in it for the Mechs, I have gone in to this Kickstarter big time, to buy tanks and other vehicles in anticipation of working on the next installment of our "Look, Sarge, No Charts" series of rules, which will be for Sci-Fi mass combat. So, like me, even if you're not into the CAV rules, there are a lot of other uses for these cheap Mechs and vehicles.

Here's the link, so folks can go take a look (and pledge!):

Oops, I Did It Again: Reaper Bones Kickstarter II

Well, for those who don't already know, Reaper began another Bones Kickstarter on the first day of the month, and up until now I had resisted; as the box of mostly still unpainted Bones from the last Reaper Kickstarter is till sitting next to my painting table. It was good incentive not to buy in.    However, I am weak when it comes to such quantities of nice inexpensive minis, so I knew it was only time before I caved.  So today in a weak moment I went and pledged.  Oh, well, my painting queue is now full for the next few years. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.  If I can only finish the first Bones Kickstarter box before the projected delivery of December 2014 for the second.  :-)

Reaper Kickstarter Project Manager Update

For those who may not have received the email.

FROM REAPER:

This is what you’ve been waiting for!

The Bones Post Kickstarter Pledge Manager is going live today!
There are a lot of you who have been anxiously awaiting this, and we appreciate your patience. It was a lot of work!
We’re going to ask you to hold on just a little bit more -- we’re sending out the emails with your access links in waves over the next day. Hopefully this will limit the flood of traffic and make for a smoother experience for everyone as you tell us your final choices for your pledge allocation.
Be on the lookout for your email and your log-in link.
Make sure you’re accepting messages from webmaster@reapermini.com. That’s where the email will be coming from.
With the pledge manager you’ll be able to:
- Give us your shipping address.
- Add to your initial pledge and get more stuff.
- Use PayPal or a credit card for payment of stuff beyond your initial pledge.
- Adjust your pledge if your math was off or you didn’t add any money for shipping (international backers).
- Upgrade your pledge level. With limits. Most everyone can upgrade to Vampire, but only undertakers can add undertaker packages, for instance.
- Trade your Kickstarter Sophie models in for credit or upgrade them to the Urban Legends version.
Some potential "gotchas" to keep in mind:
- The pledge manager doesn’t store your choices in the database until the very end. This will help with the traffic and keep us from crashing. If you leave and come back, there’s a good chance you’ll have to start over.
- The pledge manager will accept your input for about 10 days. After that we’ll lock you in at your pledge level. We need to get moving on the final orders so we can get these figures done by March. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you before we shut it down.
- After you’re all locked in, you’ll be able to update your email address and shipping address in case that changes between now and then.
Please help everyone out by letting all of your friends know, just in case they miss both this update or their email when it get’s sent out.
Minor Change of Plans:
In other news, due to circumstances beyond our control, two of our elves we were going to produce from the concept art will now be based on two existing models. The original ones are hung up at the sculpting phase, and we can’t wait any longer. We picked models that are pretty similar to the concept art and they’re already headed to production so we can hit that March deadline. Check ‘em out (see below).
Moving Production to Texas Update:
We’re making good progress moving Bones production to Texas. We’ve picked out a beastly beauty of an injection machine, but we have to wait for the final quote for this round of production from China before we can know if we have enough cash left over to cover all the initial bells and whistles. It’ll be awhile before we’re going full swing, but we’re getting there.
Did you know it takes around 3 or 4 months just to get the machine delivered for installation after you purchase it? Apparently, they build them to order and don’t have an inventory just sitting around -- go figure! (...how many do they sell a year, I wonder? Not many I bet.)
Anyway, keep an eye out for that email with your Pledge Manager log-in, and thanks from all of us at Reaper!

Reaper Bones KickStarter Nears Final Two Days

For those who haven't heard yet, Reaper is offering a great deal on KickStarter in which you can get over 200 of their Bones miniatures for a pledge of only $100.  That is less than .50 cents per figure.

Plus, they have all kinds of cool extras you can add in for a small extra charge.  When I last checked the project had surpassed 9000 backers , and the total pledge amount was nearing $1,800,000.
Here is a look at what your $100 dollars currently gets you (click on the picture to see it larger):

They are adding more to this grouping as further Stretch Goals are made. Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime chance to get all these great minis for such a small price.  I pledged in at the $100 level and am looking forward to getting my package full of minis!
