30 Days 30 Cards ~ Day 7

Hello all! I hope you're all gathering some festive inspiration during these first 7 days!  Here's my card, which is based on this sketch from Sketch Support.  I used a Kraft card stock base, Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage 6x6" pad, Prima Flowes, Close To My Heart craft buttons, a sentiment die cut from my stash, Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, sheer cream ribbon and Burlap String.  I also added some 'stitching' using my Tim Holtz Distress Marker in Picket Fence.

Get out your embossing folders & Sizzix Texture Boutique!  I used mine on the brown patterned paper to add some dimension with the embossed swirl design.  Notice the buttons?  They are clear craft buttons (CTMH), backed with the same Teresa Colins papers for some easy custom made embellishments.  Then, I iced them with a little Stickles.

Thank you for soaking up 30 Days of 30 Cards with us so far.  Stop back tomorrow for Day 8 with the talented Christine.

October Challenge: Let's get Techie w/Tim!

Hello, it's teamworks designer, Christine Pennington.  I have the privilege of hosting this month's challenge:  Stamp -or- Scrap w/ distress markers!

I was so excited when MW decided to carry some of Tim's Holtz's distress markers.  If you have not seen what they are all about, here is an awesome video by Tim.  Please take the time to view the entire video, there is so much valuable information.

I had a lot of fun creating my card. Here are the steps I did to make my Techie w/Tim challenge project.

Step one: I embossed a tag with one of Tim's embossing folders.

Step two: I laid down some color on my craft mat using distress marker Faded Jeans.  I wanted a watercolor effect so I added drops of water next to my ink.  Using a paint brush, I painted color on the non raised areas.

Step Three:  I dabbed Picket Fence Distress Stain on the raised part of the tag {the snowflakes}.

Step Four: I added Crystal Stickles & Distress Antique Bronze Stickles to the snowflakes.

Step Five:  I used a negative from a piece of cardstock that I cut snowflakes out of with Tim Holtz's Movers & Shakers snowflake dies.  I traced/colored a snowflake using Faded Jeans Distress Marker.  To keep with the watercolor look, I spritz the snowflake with water.  In this photo you start to see what I made with a piece of the tag I did my technique on.

I sure hope I have inspired you to make something fun with Tim's products...I can't wait to see what you all come up with month.  One lucky consultant will win a prize from the home office! Good luck!

Supplies:  BoBonny Mistletoe, Vanilla Tag, Ivory, White & Blue Cardstock, Tim Holtz Snowflake EB folder and dies, Tim Holtz Distress Marker Faded Jeans, Picket Fence Distress Stain, Crystal Stickles, Distress Antique Bronze Stickles, Pleated & Satin Ribbon, Bo Bunny Brad, & Pearls

Card Crazy Saturday

Hi...I'm Janey and I'll be joining you for Card Crazy Saturday!  It's seems like there is always something going on in my life that requires a card.  I have three different cards to share with you today.

The first Card is for a co-worker that is retiring and loves to golf.  Using my die cut and American Crafts card stock, I created and layered pieces to get the look I was going for.  As most of you know, I love Tim Holtz Inks, so all the edges are inked. I then took a black archival pen and added a few markings to give the pieces the look I wanted.
I've done this card before, but this time it's for my daughter's baby shower.  She is having a boy and the theme for her shower is Safari.  I embossed the card and with my die cut machine I cut the characters out.  I didn't ink the edges this time but added googlie eyes for an animated look.  I cut the grass with those decorative scissors that I sometimes forget I have :)
And finally, using the Simple Stories Baby Steps Collection, I created this card.  I cut the shape of the card and the coordinating pieces with my die cut machine.  Again I inked the edges with Tim Holtz ink and assembled.  I added baker's twine, pop-dots, and Zva mini chunky dots for a little bling!
I hope you enjoyed my selection of cards today.  Thanks for stopping by.
I'll be back next week with some more fun card selections.

Express Kit Monday: Delightful-ly Altered

Hello everyone! Happy Monday!
This is the last Monday in April. Can you believe it?! We've had so much fun creating with the Delightful Kit this month. I just thought I'd share a couple of altered pieces I created with the kit, as well as some small cards that utilized the "scraps."

First up is a sticky note holder created from a wooden box I picked up from the dollar bin at the local craft store.

(Here it is with the little sticky note pad)

Next, I altered a dollar frame, using a little cotton candy distress stain. (Be sure to check out the new catalog for a wide variety of stain colors. They're great to work with!) The butterflies and trim patterns are stamped in worn lipstick, broken china and tea dye distress inks. The stamps themselves are from the "Be Happy" collection by My Mind's Eye. You can find them in the new catalog.

Finally, here are a couple of cards made with some scraps. The easel card uses stamps from My Mind's Eye "Be Amazing" collection. (Love the banners and bike!) The thank you note uses the MME "Be Happy" stamps. ("Love" on the first card is also from that set.) The distress inks and both stamp sets can be found in the new catalog as well.

Hope you have enjoyed this month's kit as much as I have. Have a Delightful-ly inspired week!

Challenge Me Wednesday: Banners

Hi everyone!  This month's challenge as you know is all about banners.  I thought I'd share what I did with the My Mind's Eye - Howdy Doody Collections from our new catalog!  To make the banner, I first used the stamp set from this collection and Tim Holtz's ink to create each tag and then trimmed the ends.  Next I stapled them across the card to create the banner.  The strip across the middle of the card got its texture from running it through my crimper.  I loved these cheerful colors!  It's hard to come up with a "manly" card, but I think this will work.

Don't forget to get your Banner Challenge projects in by April 30th and all projects must be at least 80% MemoryWorks products.  They need to be added into the Challenge thread in the MW Studio by then.

Can't wait to see everyone's projects.

Creative Cards Saturday & A Scraplift

Hello again!  Jody here and I'm back for my second edition of Creative Cards Saturday.  I scoured the Memory Works consultant gallery for inspiration and saw so many that got my creative juices flowing!  Since my assignment is cards, I wanted a project that wasn't really a card but that I could use as a base for my card.  I found this great photo wallet project created by Memory Works Consultant Tammy Clecker.  I thought, "what a cute and fun birthday card that could be!"

So, after Tammy kindly agreed to have her project used as my inspiration, here's what I came up with.  I made a fun folding birthday card.  Here are the dimensions;  cardstock base 10" x 5", scored at 1", 4" and 7".  All of the patterned papers inside the card are trimmed just short of  5" and 3".  The patterned paper band is about 2 1/2" wide and was made simply by wrapping a length of patterned paper around the finished fold out card and then secured after achieving the desired fit.

I used a mix of different paper lines including October Afternoon Sidewalks Theme, 100 Days of Summer Designer cardstock and stickers, American Crafts cardstock, Dear Lizzy Crochet Flowers & brad, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Bo Bunny & Basic Grey alpha stickers and cute birthday greeting stamp.

Dress up the patterned paper band with a punched shape and other layers embellishments.  Don't forget to ink the edges for some added dimension.
When you first unfold the card, you'll see the gift card pocket revealed and the beginning of the birthday greeting.

Unfold the card some more for more fun embellishments and the rest of the birthday greeting.  There's still plenty of room to write a special message to the birthday boy or girl.

Supplies listed below.

Thank you for stopping by today.  Now, grab some cardstock, adhesive and paper scraps and make some cards today!  Feel free to stop by my blog, SpiegelMom Scraps, for more creative fun.
Happy Scrappin'!

Inspiration Friday: One Card, Five Techniques

Happy Friday! Today, I thought I'd share some of my favorite techniques, all while sharing the steps to create a greeting card. Maybe the techniques are something new to you, or maybe they're something you've seen before. Either way, here's a little challenge...try to incorporate one of these ideas into your "Scrap-time" this week!

Supplies to create this card:

4.25"x5.5" folded card
Tim Holtz Tissue Tape
October Afternoon 5 & Dime word stickers
ZVA Bling: Flourish
a button
We R MemoryKeepers Sew Easy floss (Tertiary)
Ranger Perfect Pearls Mists (but any glimmer mist would work)
Ranger Distress Ink (I used Black Soot)
Tattered Angels glimmer screen (but any mask/plastic template would work)
Paper Towel
Fiskars Squeeze punch
Glue Dots Pop dots

Technique #1: Upcycle the "bar code" strip from 12x12 patterned papers.
Not only do many of the 12"x12" strips on double-sided paper often have a little sampling of the pattern on the back that you can use right on your project, but you can also use the strip as a guide! I used a strip from a piece of Cosmo Cricket paper to create a fun pleated border for my card.

I LOVE the Tim Holtz tissue tape! The rolls go a LONG way. And, did you realize that it's adhesive...very much like duct tape, but lighter, cuter and it is removable and doesn't lose it's "stick" if you need to move it around. I started on the left-hand side of a 4.25" piece of the bar code strip, and simply stuck down the Tissue Tape about 1/2", then folded back, then repeated in order to create my border. Once I was done, I folded the ends of the tape around to the back side. I inked it with my Distress Ink to give the edges some definition and adhered it to the card.

Technique #2: Make Tissue Tape flowers.
I can't take credit for these marvelous (and oh so easy) flowers. Tim Holtz has a great video tutorial on his website. But, the cliff notes version is this: Start with a scrap cardstock circle. Adhere about 1/2" of Tissue Tape on outer edge, then pleat as you go, sticking it down and going around the outer edge of the circle, then work in towards the middle.

For my flower I did about three rounds from outside to inside, then just tore it off when at the center. For added dimension, fluff up the edges throughout, and ink it up! You can use any kind of brad, button, sticker, etc, for the center.

Technique #3: Experiment...Go crazy and punch shapes from paper towels.

While cleaning up after using some glimmer mist recently, I thought about how pretty my paper towel was with all that ink... Note that I can't vouch for the acid-free or archival quality of a paper towel; however, in card-making, that generally doesn't matter so much! So, as an experiment, I used the Fiskars Squeeze Punches to punch scalloped circles from a Kirkland Brand (Costco) Paper Towel. My punches did great with that brand, thickness...I haven't experimented yet with any other brands. I love the fabric feel of these punched circles!! Then, I sprayed them with Perfect Pearls Mist in Forever red, which gave it a pinkish iridescent shine. I used my heat gun to dry the circles. Just be careful not to scorch them...!

Then, I used one as a center to my Tissue tape flower with a button sewn on, and another as a backing for my "Live Laugh Love" Sticker. Love experiments "gone right"!

Technique #4: Repeat patterns in your project.
Repeating patterns is a design principle that almost always looks great. You don't want to over-do it, of course, but I love how it ties things together.

It's hard to get a good photo of the Perfect Pearls Mists on my card, but I placed a flourish mask on the top of my cardstock base, then sprayed Perfect Pearls Mist (Forever red color) over it. I used my heat gun to dry quickly. Then, I adhered the ZVA Bling flourish to add a finishing touch.

Technique #5: Layer multiple textures.
Layering is another design principle that I use a lot in my paper-crafting. In this card, I used many textures...the tissue tape, the "fabric like" paper towel flowers, the bling, the stickers, the button, which give it a richer feel than just paper alone.

This really lends it a hand-made touch. But, you don't have to use five different things. Even just using Pop Dots to raise a paper piece off a page can create more depth in your project.

So, what idea are you going to use or try? I'd love to hear!
