Creative Cards Saturday: Gallery Inspiration!

WELCOME BACK!  Gallery Inspiration has been my hardest challenge so far this year as a designer.  There are so many amazing projects in the Studio that are inspiring!  For today's post  I chose a Trio card set created by Mariah Heckler.  The reasons I chose hers:
  1. I typically design in sets of THREE
  2. I love that the layout is the same, yet the cards are different.
Here are the THREE cards I did for today.

Cardstock & Stamps:

JilliBean Soup: Coconut Lime Soup Coordinating Paper
JilliBean Soup: Coconut Lime Soup Stamp set by Unity
Simple Stories & Unity: Pocket full of Posies

Have a wonderful rest of today & thanks Mariah for inspiring me!

Creative Cards Saturday: Clean & Simple!

Hello.  Did you miss me?  Smiles.  It feels like forever since I have posted here.  Looking back I think it was in April when I last posted here.  Today, I am sharing some CLEAN & SIMPLE cards with all of you.

When I applied to be on the design team we had to submit a bio.  I thought it would be appropriate to share about me, {since most of you probably never heard of me before making the design team}.

I became a consultant in October 2011, prior to that I was with The Angel Company, which closed it's doors in August 2011.  I am a wife and a mom of 3, ages 25, 22 & 10.  I work full-time in the corporate world.  I love stamping and coloring, I scrap {occasionally}, I love to crochet when I have the time & mostly, I love spending time with my family.

I currently design for several design teams, including my local scrapbooking store: VIP Scrapbook Gallery.  I am also an Endorsed {ippity} Chick with Unity.

My style: Clean and Simple with no frills, however I am dabbling in some Tim Holtz distressed looks.

Pet Peeve:  Bad photographs of beautiful cards/scrap pages & projects.  Taking the time to take great pictures of your art is so important. The focus should be your art, backgrounds should be clutter free with little to no props.

One word that describes me in the crafting world: perfectionist, I must have a "perfectly" stamped image or I will keep trying, if I can! I would have preferred my sentiment to be down lower on card one.  Oops!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed learning more about me.  I also hope you like my cards for today.  I have found less is better.  I like things to {pop} and I like the focus to be on the stamped images.  The papers and cardstock are the canvas, and MemoryWorks does a fantastic job carrying a wide variety, so there is always something for everyone.

Supplies:

Stamps: Pocket full of Posies, Simple Stories & Unity; Dolled Up, My Minds Eye
Paper/CS:  Dolled Up, My Minds Eye; Fab{U}lous, Simple Stories
Other: Dolled Up Brads, My Mind's Eye;  Fab{U}lous Stickers, Simple Stories; Pearls & Ribbon {my stash}.

ADDED Later:  I have received a few emails asking what I did to make the butterflies so crisp.  I used Xpress-it Paper & Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink {in my opinion it is the best black ink to use if not using Copics to color your image}.

abundant blessings,

Creative Card Saturday

Good Afternoon! I was browsing the MW Studio gallery, and came across this card from consultant Jeannie Benson:

There are several things I like about it, but the design is what caught my eye. I love the simplicity of it...the 3 rectangles joined together by the border strip, and topped with the sentiment/focal point.
Here is my take on it...

That A Boy:

I used paper and stickers  from the Crate Paper 'Toybox' collection to make a cute boy card.  I also embossed the background, and changed the brads to buttons...to make it a little bit more boy-ish.

Browse a gallery today for a quick card idea...there's all kinds of inspiration to get your creative juices flowing!

Creative Card Saturday

Happy Saturday everyone! I've got a few Spring-ish cards that I put together with a few different lines from the previous catalog.

Happy Birthday:

This one features the October Afternoon 'Farmhouse' collection. Another easy one to put together... adding a few details like embossing , and a button with twine, can really make a project pop!

My Mother...My Friend:

Here is a card made with the Lily Bee Design 'This & That' collection.  I topped a little hat pin with some beads and sequins...great touches on a card for Mother's Day, or even her birthday.

That's it! I hope you've found some inspiration to use up some of those scraps from your older products, so you can make room for some new!

Creative Card Saturday

I don't know about you, but I just don't buy gifts for people anymore, espeically kids. Who knows what kids will like from one day to the next. And I am not a big fan of giving cash either. So I settle on gift cards. You can find them in the supermarkets for almost any store and you can mostly choose the denomination that is reaonsable for your budget.

When I buy the gift card, the cashier either throws it in a plastic bag, hands it to me to throw in my purse or they give a funky little box to assemble and slip the card into. I don't like any of those options. So I found a way to create a gift card holder. It's easy. It's cute. It's scrappy.

What I love most about the card I am about to show you is that it's great for using up scraps. Use coordinating sheets or mix-n-match or keep it monochromatic. Either way, you won't go wrong and the recipient will absolutly love it.

Part I - The Envelope
1. Start with a 5 x 11 strip of your favorite card stock.
2. Score the strip at 6 3/4 and 2 1/2 and fold
3. Cut a 3 3/4 x 4 inch piece of patterned paper and glue to the middle panel of the 5 x 11 strip. This is the front of the card.
4. Punch a hole or square in the top center of the middle panel. This will serve as a window.
5. Take the larger flap of the 5 x 11 strip and apply adhesive only to the bottom edge and fold over the back of the middle panel.
6. Then apply adhesive to the 3 edges of the 2 1/2 inch panel and adhere to the 6 3/4 flap. This will leave you with an openning at the top of the card.

Part II - The Card Insert
7. Cut a 4 1/2 by 4 3/4 piece from the patterned paper you used in setp 3.
8. Cut a 4 x 4 1/2 piece of the cardstock you used for your 5 x 11 strip. Adhere to the patterned paper from 7. This will be the card you insert into the envelope you made in Part I.
9. Insert the card into the envelope to see how it fits. Trace the shape you cut onto the insert while it is still in the envelope. Note: Do it very lightly in pencil so that you an erase it later.
10. Take your favorite stamp and stamp it within the shape you traced on the insert. Erase the pencil tracing.
11. Below the stamped image, you can either adhere teh gift card using repositional glue dots or you can use a slit punch or take a craft knife and cut out a slit at the bottom center of the insert. The slit should be large enough for the gift card to slip into and stay secure.

VOILA! There are so many ways to vary this card. Have fun trying. Check out the sample and please leave a comment if you have any questions about making this card.

Creative Cards Saturday

Happy Saturday!! Are you ready for another edition of Creative Cards Saturday? Well,  Valentine's Day is right around the corner so I wanted to share a few Valentine inspired cards with you today. Either of these cards would be great to send to someone you love! Check them out below...

Be Mine Valentine
For this one I used some of my left overs from my Simple Stories- 100 Days of Summer kit. You don't have to used Valentine themed paper to create cute Valentine cards! This is a great way to use up some of your left overs (scraps) from other projects!

Sending My Love
For this one I used Jillibean Soup- Christmas Eve Chowder and Apple Cheddar Soup. Again non- Valentine themed paper. I also added some tags to this card. Lately I have been using them on everything. Do you ever find yourself reusing them same product over and over again?

I'll be back next Saturday with a few more Valentine themed cards! So make sure to stop back!

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful weekend!

Creative Cards Saturday & A Scraplift

Hello again!  Jody here and I'm back for my second edition of Creative Cards Saturday.  I scoured the Memory Works consultant gallery for inspiration and saw so many that got my creative juices flowing!  Since my assignment is cards, I wanted a project that wasn't really a card but that I could use as a base for my card.  I found this great photo wallet project created by Memory Works Consultant Tammy Clecker.  I thought, "what a cute and fun birthday card that could be!"

So, after Tammy kindly agreed to have her project used as my inspiration, here's what I came up with.  I made a fun folding birthday card.  Here are the dimensions;  cardstock base 10" x 5", scored at 1", 4" and 7".  All of the patterned papers inside the card are trimmed just short of  5" and 3".  The patterned paper band is about 2 1/2" wide and was made simply by wrapping a length of patterned paper around the finished fold out card and then secured after achieving the desired fit.

I used a mix of different paper lines including October Afternoon Sidewalks Theme, 100 Days of Summer Designer cardstock and stickers, American Crafts cardstock, Dear Lizzy Crochet Flowers & brad, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Bo Bunny & Basic Grey alpha stickers and cute birthday greeting stamp.

Dress up the patterned paper band with a punched shape and other layers embellishments.  Don't forget to ink the edges for some added dimension.
When you first unfold the card, you'll see the gift card pocket revealed and the beginning of the birthday greeting.

Unfold the card some more for more fun embellishments and the rest of the birthday greeting.  There's still plenty of room to write a special message to the birthday boy or girl.

Supplies listed below.

Thank you for stopping by today.  Now, grab some cardstock, adhesive and paper scraps and make some cards today!  Feel free to stop by my blog, SpiegelMom Scraps, for more creative fun.

Creative Cards Saturday

Howdy Scrappers!  It's Jody here and I'm happy to be hanging out with you for Creative Cards Saturday.  This is my first assignment as a Design Team member and I'm super excited!  I wanted to share some easy ways to add texture to your projects without adding too much bulk.

Now if you're like me, you don't want your special cards to get ruined while traveling via the USPS (U.S. Postal Service), right?  Right!  The rule of thumb for the USPS is the envelop has to fit through their little thickness tester, which is a quarter inch slot, in order for there NOT to be any extra postage charge for a thick envelop.  This quarter inch of space also allows for the envelopes to be fed through the machine without being damaged.  Sometimes I feel like the Post Master at my local Post Office grabs that darn thing as soon as he sees me walk in!

Solutions! One way to add texture without adding all that bulk is to use burlap string or bakers twineMemory Works carries the WRMK Bakers Twine in wide variety of colors, along with the awesome Sew Easy ToolYou'll also find burlap string in some of the monthly Express Kits.  This small addition can add a nice touch of texture and depth to your cards and other projects.

A second way to add dimension is by using 'pop-dots.'  I used the American Crafts Dimensional Tabs to give my punched cloud element a little lift off the card.  I also inked the edges to give them more definition.  I used both techniques on the card below.

Hint: When tying a knot or bow with burlap string or baker's twine, put a small dab of Glossy Accents onto the center and your bow or knot won't come loose.

Another great way to add some texture and shine to your cards, or any other project, is by using Ranger's Glossy Accents.  Just use the bottle tip to dispense a small amount onto a die cut (or hand cut) element, sticker, stamped image, flower or whatever your heart desires.  Glossy Accents dries fast and adds a pretty shine to spice up your project.  You can also use Ranger's Crackle Accents for a unique cracked effect as well.  Did you know that Glossy Accents is a super strong adhesive also?  This great product can do some serious double duty as a part of  your scrapping supplies.  I can't scrap without it!

My hand cut banner before Glossy Accents.

After Glossy Accents
Another way to add some texture is to curl the edges of your paper.  I love this technique and use it to add a vintage feel to my projects.  All you need is a little water and your fingers!  I used my aqua pen to run some water along the edges of the paper,  then used my fingers to gently curl the paper.  So simple!

**I used a card sketch for this card from Let's Scrap. (sketch  03-16-11)

You can see the Crackle Accents used on the flowers.

Here are my Memory Works supplies:

Other supplies: Fiskars Cloud Punch & ATG Gun.

Thank for stopping by today and hope you'll use some of these easy techniques on your next projects.  Please stop by my blog, SpiegelMom Scraps, for more pictures.

Happy Scrappin'!

Creative Cards Saturday

Hello again.  Today's challenge is to view the MW Studio Inspiration Idea Gallery. If you don't have access, all you have to do is sign up to be a MemoryWorks consultant, click here to get more information.

The other day, I came across this lovely project made by Susan Nichols.  It inspired me to get out my Simple Stories: Baby Step supplies. The colors are so soft and can be used for boys or girls.

Here is the card I made.  It was fun to cut out the onesies and banners to make a cute clothesline.  After I made the clothesline, it was onto designing the rest of the card.

Thank you Susan for allowing me to use your fortune cookies as my inspiration today.

Simple Stories: Baby Steps
Tim Holtz: core'dinations, Distress ink {Vintage Photo}, eb folder & snowflake die.
American Crafts: Surf Cardstock
Other: Bakers Twine Neutral, Dimensional Dots & Vintage Brads {Hobby Lobby}.

Have a wonderful rest of today, it is my hope that you will check out the gallery to find some fun inspiration too.

Many blessings,
