Ogre / Formian and a giant skeleton

Great undead style ogre figure from the Massive darkness kickstarter. Painted with a combination of contrast (browns, creams and black) and traditional painting and shades (e.g. skin was pale pink then thinned down blue shade).

This figure is from D&D Chainmail, I believe it was a troll, but would pass as an ogre happily; painted with contrast paints and then highlighted, metals were painted more traditionally and shaded.

Mordheim: Necromancer

And something else right before the summer holidays end....

This time a necromancer, this guy is a HATE miniature from the skirmish game kick-started by CMON some time back. Mostly painted by traditional methods but the black was contrast with some highlighting.

Shame that the skull in his hand is horribly miss-cast but never-mind, obviously some kind of mutant's old skull

Probably the last thing I will paint all year, but who knows perhaps the kids will be calm enough to give me time to sit at the desk for a while yet.

Shadespire: The Sepulchral Guard

Yes I am still alive though my kids have basically killed all my hobby time, and or my Muse...

But I did pick up the wonderful new undead warband for Shadespire a few months ago and I actually managed to paint it over the course of a month or so... well it's mostly painted anyway, more than I have painted in the last 2 years or so...

You may notice I had to re-base them onto 30mm round lipped bases... can't help it I just like them so much better than the standard bases... it wasn't really all that hard if anyone is wondering, I just cut off the edge of the base, smoothed down the edges and glued the tops onto the 30mm bases.

Anyway that's it really.... not a lot after over 2 years I appreciate.... if anyone is still following this blog, thank you :).

Crud, just noticed I didn't paint the leader's spear shaft.... :(.

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead: Grave Guard Seneschal

Finally got around to putting some paint on this guy. Seriously unimpressed with the quality of the finecast piece though (the chest and left arm) it made it quite maddening to paint and at certain angles the figure looks a bit rubbish, but whatever, it's done, one more off the desk into the cabinet (until I get around to doing all the basing)

Undead specter & wraith

I had to use the specter to prop up the wraith in this photo.
Just a couple of "conversions" I finished recently, these were cut out of the Mortis engine GW kit, it took a LOT more work then I thought it would to get them lookin good after all the hacking lol. I started with Procreate, then there is a little greenstuff in there and then some liquid greenstuff to finish off, they need a little light sanding with some fine grit paper and then ready for undercoating.

In time I hope to use the rest of the spirit host these were cut from...well as a spirit host and the knights from the host as some kind of ghost knights, too much work to convert them to black knights due to all the eerie smoke that covers a lot of the detail.

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead: HORDES of undeath (plus one random dragon tamer)

Well I've not really managed to finish any projects recently, but I have been plugging away when I could over the last couple of years on the basic undead infantry, but I've never really shown a decent photo of them all, I still have a few boney undead to finish so haven't taken any photos of them yet but here's the rest.

The Brainless undead

The Flesh eater undead

As far as real updates are concerned I only have a work in progress dragon tamer, any head suggestions or suggestions over what he should have in the other arm?

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead (Rats & Hounds)

Mantic games undead hounds from the kickstarter exclusive hound keeper, and the undead rats are from one of their undead skelly unit plastic sprues.

GW Giant rants, 2 of them (far left) are from the old swarm boxed set rats, one of them (far right) is from heroquest the other 4 are from the Plague priest kit I think, or possibly the doom wheel... maybe both... lol

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead (Corpse Cart)

Very little in the way of conversions just some arm and head swaps between mantic and GW for the guys pulling the cart

LONG time for an update... would have been sooner but I managed to drop the corpse cart on the kitchen (hard) floor on the way to take a photo the first time... lol

Still not really finished (lantern needs work) but finished enough for me to put it away for now. It was at risk of being trashed by Baby hands otherwise.

I'm trying to get the last of the rank and file (Skellies) finished, once they are done it will only leave me with the Vampires, grave guard, giant skellies and the last of the NPCs to finish.... yeeks..

Undead - Flesh eaters: Werewolf & Ghoul king

Well erm, quite honestly I haven't done anything really hobby related beyond texturing some bases for over a month.... but I hadn't realised that I had 4 images yet to post up, these two and the final shots of the skaven Assassin and Black skaven which I will post this weekend.

The above figure is aMantic Kings of war Werewolf, with some putty work at the joints (frankly they fit REALLY badly.

The below figure is a GW Ghoul king from the undead dragon kit.

I have sort of (in my head) split the undead down to a few factions with these guys falling into the "Flesh eaters" sub faction with the ghouls and ghasts already posted. Just helps me to have a "theme" for the warband even if I have no particular rules in mind.

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead (more Totem Bearers)

Converted and painted these over the last 2 weekends to go with the guy with the whip featured in my last undead post.

Both are converted from Mantic Ghouls with mantic spears and then GW heads and banner bits / corpse bits.
The left guy gets his banner from the GW skelly kit I believe while the right guy has the skulls cut from a duplicate banner and the torso that was held in a ghoul's hand, the heads are from the Corpse cart kit.... I have realised that I didn't take a good front on shot of the guy on the right so you can't see his face, i'll try to get a group shot of the zombies once the last totem bearer (with whip) is painted with a better shot of that guy.

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead (Totem Bearer)

Very minor update, I realised some months ago that I had forgotten about the "elite" unit type for the Zombie dice roll in the Wargame Weaver mordheim campaign. The Zombie totem bearers increase the WS of all zombies in a radius of them.

I looked through my bits box and although I came up with a few actual totem bearer type ideas I also decided to use some spare corpse cart arms to do a guy with a whip, ok Zombies are unlikely to be motivated by a whip, but honestly I don't care I thought it would look cool lol.

So the stock model is a Mantic games ghoul I had already finished (but I replaced the mantic Ghouls with GW LOTR goblins due to them being too similar to my zombies (see previous posts)) with a GW Flagellant head, GW Corpse cart guy arms and a bit of a GW ghoul bone.

I used thin plasti-card to give the frame for the cloak and then applied a layer of pro-create to even everything out, then another layer to make the folds. I still need to finish the inside to level the plasti-card with the GW arms.

Still some tidying up to do at the bottom of the cloak with a bit more putty.

Anyway this is pretty much all i've managed to do in about a month so... hope you like it.

Cheers

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: Forces of Undead (Dire "Wolves")

I actually finished these such as they are last weeked.... finaly found some time to post them up.

Babies require soooo much time

These are really chaos hounds with the chaosy bits trimed or filed off and new tales, they would have looked more wolf like with bushy type tales but I don't have any and it doesn't bother me much anyway.

Could do with some more blood on the fangs (only managed to do it on one of them) but I was really just after getting SOMETHING off the painting desk (first thing since last year).

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: New Ghouls Part 2

I'm using Wargods Ghouls as Ghasts (elite ghouls) for the campaign.

More Ghouls from Goblin town goblins, this time painted with a Brown tone to add a bit of variation to the hordes of undead, there have been some hand swaps going on with this second batch, including a couple of hands holding dismembered hands from Mantic games Zombies.

The guy not in focus on the front left was a fairly major conversion, the legs and torso were from different goblins (i'm not a fan of the majorly mutated ones) and the arm with the rock (used to be a head) was from a mantic games zombie.

I have also started to paint the Ghoul king (Varghulf) and the first Gargoyle (Harpy in the campaign, Chaos Fury miniature) the second one will be in the grey scheme to match the first bunch of ghouls.

Mordheim Vampire Hunters: New Ghouls

Well after the Rant I posted earlier today I though I really should upload something more appropriate to my Blog ... lol

As much as I do actually like the Mantic games king of war Ghouls I was using previously , I have decided to replace them, this is really only due to the fact that they are a little too similar for my liking to the Zombies..... probably not helped by the fact I used Ghoul parts in my zombies... lol....

So I shall be replacing these with the goblin town guys so that they don't look at all similar to these.

I settled on the Lord of the rings Goblins from the Goblin Town set, this is mostly because they have some bat like features that will blend in well with my chosen models for Ghasts (Crocodile games Ghouls) and Harpies (GW Furies), plus to top it off I have the Varghul as my Ghoul king.... so bat like = themed :).

Not a lot of converting on these, I just removed some of their humped backs and replaced it with hair... the next batch have had a couple of hand swaps with Mantic zombies and amongst themselves just to make them mostly unique (I say that because I didn't do anything to 2 of the duplicates).

The paint job was very simple.
Grey undercoat (halfords car primer)
A Wash of OOP GW Shadow Grey
Dry brush 50/50 Shadow greay and OOP foundation Astroinomican Grey
Dry brush Astronomican grey
Paint all the bits of cloth & weapons
Army painter strong tone quick shade over everything
Paint the hair with P3 Bastion Grey
OOP Badab black ink over the hair
Mix some AP strong tone with P3 red ink and dab on weapons hands and mouths
Finish with some pure red ink (I hope to get some tamia red at some point to make it all look fresher).
So far bases are just a wash of P3 Umbral umber over the grey undercoated bases

I will paint the eyes at some point but i've no brushes suitable for that.... new paint brushes are on my Xmas list....

Anyway AN UPDATE!!! TA DAA.... you're all impressed right..... lol.
