Gorgon cult - paint in progress

So the painting doth begin, settled on a green fin / sail scheme for these dudes (After trying and failing orange).
Skales / Skin will be blacker when i'm finished (I hope).

Started on the salamanders in the same scheme, took a scale shot so you can see how big the naga figure is vs the salamander conversion.

Gorgon cult; medium based salamander types.

A couple of horribly painted pre-painted world of Warcraft figures i'm attempting to upgrade for use as medium based warriors for my Gorgon cult.
Left guy's head was repositioned and his trident was built from an Ogre standard pole and a Dark elf standard cross section (From the OOP warriors kit).
Right guy had his left arm cut off an re-posed / sculpted, his head removed and re-posed and the same weapon build.

Random Aquatic creatures.....

First guy is GW plastic bloodletter with it's head and fin removed, then I have cut up a D&D pre-painted plastic figure (can't remember the name of it, but I have more so will say next time) and glued it's head and spine to the blood letter, at the moment i'm referring to it as a shrimp creature.

Little guy is covered in anther post so I wont go into that, guy on the left is a work in progress of a bigger version... well I guess that is obvious lol.

Parts list is a GW goblin spider, Tyranid larger creature head (sorry don't know what kit), a paperclip and some other tyranid bits (the unfinished bigger arms are from Guants, the sacks (it's head) is from the same kit as the big head used for his body I think) and the armour over it's shoulder and behind it's head are extra armour plate from one of the kits.... basically it's all nid with spider legs....

Hordes / Fishmen update; Rask Minion Warlock

Not much to say beyond the fact that there are a few highlights yet to do (E.g. Gold) and that this figure is a pain in the arse to paint (at least for me lol).

Hordes: Blindwater pact (Minions) Swamp Horror (no 2)

Barney the Squid
Couldn't resist getting two of these things, seeing as they are fantastic miniatures :P lol.I went with a completely different scheme on this one (another reason why i'm enjoying painting the minions) and I figured out what to do with all that space on the side of them, a bit of blobbing with some ink and I think it came out quite well :). Still need to varnish this one to take the shine off the purple ink but i'm liking him this far. I may have overdone it with the highlighting on the armour, can't really tell till after the varnish goes on, still might tone it down a little... not sure...

The eyes have only been undercoated so far.

Hordes: Blindwater pact (Minions) Swamp Horror

He's Still WIP, got a couple of teeth to finish off and decide what to do about the big grey patches on the side (I tried a smooth grey, didn't like it, so went with a smudged grey but I don't like that much either :().

Love this model, if it wasn't for this guy and the Bog trogs I could easily have avoided buying into another army *sigh*. Still I hope that the model can pull double duty in another game system one day.

It sure is fun to paint things in a completely different way / choice of colours than normal though, the minions in general with their varied model races / creatures are well, just enjoyable to paint :) (well the blindwater side at least, I was fed up after my 6th Brigand for Thornfall... lol).

However this picture was taken while the base was still drying (actually it still is) but since taking the shot the damn water simulation type stuff has shrunk a LOT (it basically now just looks like a wet base, rather than a couple of MM depth). :(, going to try another layer in the morning and hope for the best but with the rate of shrinkage so far I think it's going to need about 30 layers.

Fishmen update; Bog Trogs galore

First off sorry for the long delay between posts, last week was very draining, I didn't have any

enthusiasm to do anything at all, some of it is back and a number of items have been undercoated now, so at the very least I should be able to do a little painting in the evenings to update the blog with.

 -------------------------

With rask now out and being a really decent caster for the Blindwater contract (Privateer PRess game Hordes) I had to buy some more Bog trogs to go with the 12 I already had... in order to start building a fishman army. Then I bought a Spitter (giant turtle thing) and i've also ordered a Swamp horror (the Squid beast).... so it looks like i'm now collecting both of the Minion factions ( I have a relatively large force of Farrow already).... oh well... lol.

The fishmen will be pulling double time in some other games at least, even if just some random baddies in Mordheim Quest.

Still haven't determined what i'm going to do with the bases yet, but I have bought some water effects stuff there will be some sludgy or muddle puddles at least on some of them :).

MODheim: Fishmen update; 2nd shrimp / lobster beast (PiP)

Almost done with the 2nd lobster guy, just got to finish his feet, seal the paintwork and then finish the base one day.

He's got a slight variation to the other one, maily just less navy blue used in the paint scheme and I didn't wash the tail and bits on the top shell with the marine blue before I inked them.

Cheers for looking.

MODheim: Fishmen update; shrimp / lobster beast (WIP)

So here we have what used to be the "Ultra" version of the Crustaceor figure (in monsterapocalypse a monster box comes with 2 identical version of it, the standard and the Ultra monster) from Privateer Press, with this one I put him under how water and twisted his head a LOT so that he was looking to one side.... unfortunately he bent right back over the course of the three days after that...oh well.

I did however break his tail off and cut off both his claws to swap over, I repositioned one arm and the tail and then will glue the claws back on once he / she is painted.

The creature was then painted in a faulty can of army painter to give the shell more texture and then with Halfords (a UK car & bike hardware store type thing) grey primer (which is bloody excellent, thank you for that tip Agent of Ping). The model is now residing on the painting desk and I've knocked up a cork base for it.

Remind me. Disemboweling in your species, fatal or non-fatal?
Hopefully I can finish painting him / her this weekend :).

Cheers for reading.

MODheim: Fishmen update; shrimp / lobster beast

He's my latest "finished" work, this one is not a conversion just a re-paint (and re-base) of a pre-painted plastic model from Privateer Press's Monsterpocalypse; "Crustaceor" monster from the Tritons faction.

I decided to paint him blue to go with my Fishmen scheme, though if I ever do write a list for these things though this thing and the Mato will be options for the fishmen, they should be a list in themselves as well (IMO), so I made it a rather different blue scheme so that if they ever get fielded against each other they'll look like different factions.

I have another one of these that i'm looking to convert, but superglue doesn't stick to them too well, i'm going to try pinning.... but the plastic also doesn't drill well.... we'll see how it goes.

Cheers for looking :).

Sci-Fi terrortoise anyone + new fishmen miniatures on the horizon.

Well I was going to get around to doing a sci-fi terrortoise conversion and in the back of my mind I was thinking about scratch sculpting and casting them but it looks like Mantic games may have done the groundwork for me.

Assuming they make another $13,000 in the next 6 hours at the time of writing on their "dreadball" kickstarter this lovely concept will be put into play:

I have ti admit i'm slightly annoyed that the idea I had is now no longer original but this is cool enough to get over that. I have already invested in the Dreadball kickstarter and this is definitely going to be one of my BOGOF teams.

While i'm posting concepts from companies I also found out about this one the other day:

His name is Rask, and he is going to be the Blindwater caster appearing in the next Privateer press Hordes release (2013), seen here pictured with undead Bog Trogs.... These models WILL BE MINE!!! they will be added to my fishmen warband, only problem is, at PPs prices they will probably set me back about £40, I wish PP would go plastic :( (for cost and ease of conversion.

Anyway, I have actually finished a Terrortoise paint job so will have a photos up today or tomorrow.

Have a good rest of Sunday

MODheim: Fishmen update

Just a quick update on the fishmen warband with the hero posted below.

The shield is from an Urban mamoth Koroalon Brood figure. I coulden't figure out a good weapon swap with the Bog Trogs normal weapon so I just bent it into a different shape basically... more sword like now....

I have spent way too much this month on bits for conversions and some terrain bits, after last months Car insurance and Road tax.....

I have already bought a 2nd hand 3 pieces suite and a display cabinet, plus looking at a computer hideaway to keep the room tidier..., all in all over £250 on eBay (including furniature).... I wont be buying anything else for a few months if I can avoid it.....

MODheim: Mato

DISCLAIMER: this was not my idea, it was filched over from Tael on ATT:
Link
His blog is over here: link

Another conversion that I saw some years ago and loved the look of.
I immediately went out and got most of the parts for it but was stumped for a few bits.
However just recently I was tidying my plastic pile and I came across the parts I needed to finish the conversion... !! I grabs the bits and took them straight to my desk.

some fiddling, swearing and picking apart my Superglue'd fingers later I had this to show off:

I love this little guy, I have no idea what i'm going to do with him and I only have the parts for one more, but that doesn't change the fact that I love it!

The parts are: Nid Gaunt head, OOP plastic spider (from WH quest or the OOP spider swarm), and 2 each of the 2 gaunt guns, plus one of the little toxin sack thingys (and some plastic card).

One of the most creative / imaginative conversions i've ever seen.

If anyone else has seen any really creative conversions out there on the net, please feel free to share the links!!

Have a good one.

MODheim: Fishmen update

Finished painting my fishmen for MODheim (apart from the bases), I have to do a few more, as there aren't enough (particularly Heroes) to make an entire warband yet but i'm happy with how they came out in the end :).

MODheim: Fishmen (PIP)

This is a Catch-up post showing the present state of the MODHeim Fishman warband i'm working on.

The warband undercoated
I decided to try a rather different approach to painting these guys to try and make them more "fish" like. I did this first by undercoating in a light colour (Army painter Bone spray) and then painting them with watered down silver (in this case GW Chainmail). I then proceeded to paint the fleshy areas with GW Azurmen blue ink (which is probably now OOP).

I personally feel that the paint job worked pretty well and left the minis with a nice metallic sheen, which is what I was going for.
Sea trolls with some paint on them (GW River rolls)

Carg with some paint on them (Privateer Press Bog Trogs)
I also have the following Sea Demon miniatures from Four A miniatures  (http://www.fouraminiatures.com) to add to the warband.
