3D Birdhouse

Hello Everyone!!!

Manu here today with my take on the current challenge. This challenge is all about using your dies in a little different manner than what they are normally used for!!! It's all about thinking out of the box and making a good use of your dies to make something 3D with them. It can be anything, a box, a bag, frames, houses.. just about anything, as long as it's made with dies and have the 3D element associated with it. It's quite simple and fun.. right!!
However, we do not see a lot of participation this time, So bring out your dies and think a little beyond the horizon and make something nice and 3D with your dies and lets see what have I made with my dies!

I have made a nice little birdhouse using my Spellbinders classic square Large die. I used multiple diecuts to make my base. Since I wanted a little bigger birdhouse, each side of the square base has been made using multiple diecuts and then formed into a sqaure shape. This has also helped me in giving a added strength to the base structure. Once the square base is done, more layering of an additional cardstock followed by pattern paper is done.

I loved the little quote of Happiness stamped on the top!!! This sure is someones Happy place!!

Here's a little closer look of the birdie and the flowers cluster!

I have always loved this bird stamp!! and ohh yes, I like that little Butterfly on the top too!

I also added these cute little wooden shaped pillars from my stash and painted them red to go along with the color combination.

I hope this has inspired you in some way and you might now be tempted to make something with the dies. I had a blast making this one and I hope that you all liked it too!!! Do drop me a comment on how did you find my little birdhouse to be.
So get those dies out and get inspired!!!

3D Cupcake Holder using Silhouette Cameo

Hello friends,

Happy Monday to you all. I hope you found some crafting time this weekend to join us in

Lulupu Challenge #45

3D with Dies (or a die cutting machine)
Click here for all the details and rules

Tanvi Shah presented us with a beautiful shadow box + tutorial last week. If you haven't already started making your submission, I hope my project inspires you to try.

This project is another first attempt for me - traditional scrapbooking technique - paper piecing and layering. No inks, or stamps just paper and glue. Also, my first big project using the Silhouette Cameo. Here is a close up, any guesses?

Its a carousel which also doubles up as a cupcake holder. All papers have been cut using the Silhouette cameo -  plain, textured, glitter and pearl cardstock . Its definitely a dream machine, I could never have created this project without this die cutting machine. The cut file for the carousel is from www.svgcuts.com

There is place for 8 cupcakes and the horses are meant to be cupcake toppers. If you look closely, you can see that the horses have been temporarily fixed to the cupcake wrappers using washi tape. They can easily be removed later and inserted into the cupcake.
The top of the carousel can also be removed, there is enough place for a card and a light weight gift.

The biggest challenge I faced was what glue to use. After some trial and error, I used a combination of dry and wet glues. Just curious - what glue and brand do you use for projects like this?

I hope this post made your Monday a little more inspired
So, dust those dies or cutting machines, take a leap of faith like I did and share your creation here with us.

Challenge#45 Rules

1. Get creative with you dies! Make a 3D project with cutting dies. Sorry using TEMPLATES will not qualify! But you can use electronic die cutting machines :)
2. Anything goes...............a box, a frame, a bag, a house or even a castle! Get creative!
But remember the dies must form the base of your creation & not just used for layering or embellishing. We would love to see what you create.
If you have any queries please feel free to comment & we will be happy to help.
3. You have time until 31st January 2015, 11:55 PM IST to submit your projects.

Now  here is what I made.........a shadow box! Yes you can make your own one of a kind shadow box using any of your nesting/large shape dies! Walk through the following tutorial with me to learn how easy it is to make a shadow box!

Some more pics to show you the embellishments.....

The edge of the die cut is inked & buffed with Inka gold........the dangling flower & birdie are embellishments made from shrink plastic.

This is how you will make the box -
1.   First cut two shapes using the largest die in the Spellbinders Nestabilities - Gold Majesty Circles set (TIP - use a sturdy card stock so that it holds your embellishments! Remember you can use any die you have.

2. I cut the center out of one of the die cuts to make an opening....you can do this manually if you do not have a coordinating die or use a smaller nesting dies.

3. Finally, to assemble the box I glued the to shapes with a paper strip (1" wide) & viola I made my own shadow box in 1-2-3 steps!

Hope you like my take on this challenge..........what better way to make the best of our resources  & we would love to see what you create!

And here's what the winner receives!
