Explosion box mini album Tutorial

Hello everyone,

Riswana here with you today. I'll be sharing a very basic tutorial on an explosion box mini album.. There are endless ways to do it and this is just a simplified form of mine & I hope it will be useful if you are a beginner or haven't tried this out yet.!!

Here's the box when open..

Let's get started. I'll go fron the outer layer towards inside.

Layer 1:

Take a 10 1/2" square cardstock and score at 3 1/2" and 7" respectively. Rotate the cardstock to 90 degrees and repeat the same. This is common for all the layers (so i have mentioned the measurements only once in all the pictures).

Take a 3 1/2" square scrap piece of paper, fold it diagonally. Draw a heart and fussy cut it. Use this as a template to draw on all four corners. Score diagonally in the middle of the hearts.. Cut the same template a little bit smaller to cut out the pattern paper hearts.

Take 4 pieces of 3 1/4" square Pattern papers in 2 different designs & matt them on the base. After completing it should look like this..

Inner View
Layer 2:

Take a 9" square cardstock & score at 3" and 6" respectively. Cut and score as shown & fold the flaps on each other. This is the easiest of ways to create an interactive design as well as utilizing the maximum space.. You'll need 4 pieces of 2 3/4" Pattern papers in 4 designs for matting. Here's the finished look..

Inner view

Layer 3:

This may look a bit complicated but it's actually simple and very similar to the second layer. The difference is that there's an extra 1/4" for the flaps to make pockets.

Take a 8" square cardstock and score at 1/4" 2 3/4", 5 1/4", 7 3/4" respectively. Score and cut along the lines as shown above. The resulting piece should resemble the blue shaded area. Stick the flaps to make the pockets.  You'll need 4 tags measuring 2 1/4" × 2 3/4". Also 4 square Pattern papers measuring 2 1/4" each in 2 designs..

Inner view

Outer view

The Lid:

Take a 6 1/8" square cardstock and score at 1/4" and 4 7/8" respectively. This will give a 1/8" gap between the lid and the box. You can customise as required. 4 pieces of 1" × 3 3/8" Pattern papers & 2 pieces of 3 3/8 square pattern papers will be required for matting.

Since it is a mini album, the center portion can again hold a picture. I chose to have a surprise box inside, which can be used to store small memorabilias..

Add pictures and embellishments like you wish, stick the layers on top of each other using foam adhesive and you are done. I usually add embellies coordinating the photos.!! Also, it's okay to mix and match Pattern papers as long as the color co-ordination turns out right.. Here I've used papers from four different PP packs.!!!

Hope you found this tutorial useful.. If you have any queries, please feel free to ask in the comments section and I'll be happy to help :)

3D Baby Carriage With a Mini Tag Album

Good morning, friends!

This is Jasleen here, and I'm back with my inspiration project for this month's baby-themed challenge- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. :)

You can view the challenge details HERE.

I've made a 3D Baby Carriage along with a mini tag album using the lovely collection of 6 by 6  Papeicious patterned papers- Little Star. Here's how it looks :-

Do you want to know how I made this? Well, it's pretty easy and you do not require any dies to make this carriage. I'm sharing a picture tutorial to help you understand the making process. It's quite a long and picture-heavy post. So, I hope you enjoy ! :)

Step 1.

So I recycled this discarded cereal box to make it. Just cut it out flat with the help of a sharp pair of scissors.

Step 2:-

Then, I drew two circles, using the edge of a round utencil as a stencil. If you have a circle die, a  compass, you can definitely use that or just about anything circular. We need two circle cut outs which would make the sides of our baby buggy.

Step 3:-

This is what we need to have before assembling our buggy- two circles(mine were approximately 5 inches in diameter), four tiny circles(for making the wheels) and a long strip(measuring about 8 inches long and 2 inches wide)

Step 4:-

Cut out the same from the patterned papers as well, and keep in mind, we need four large circles from patterned paper, since we want the carriage to be covered with PP on the outside as well as on the inside. Stick the patterned paper on the inner side, do not stick the outer one yet. You will know the reason for this in the following steps. Stick your choice of PPs on the long strip and the four little circles as well.
Cut out a quarter portion each from both the large circles, as shown in the pic.

Step 5 :-

Now, it's time to assemble the two circles together with the help of the strip. As you can see in the picture, I scored the long strip at about half an inch from both the sides, and made small horizontal cuts over both the edges, so that it curves and sticks over the circular edges with ease.

Step 6:-

After we are done sticking the strip along the two circles(It doesn't look very neat uptil this stage, but don't worry, that would be sorted )  stick the patterned paper on the outer sides.

Step 7:-

Now it's time to make the fan-shaped 'roof' of the buggy. For this, I used a 6 inches length and 2.5 inches width  of patterned paper and scored at 0.5 inches along the width. I think the above picture gives you an idea.
We need two of these for the two sides of the buggy.

Step 8 :-

Now, stick the four smaller circles to make the wheels. Embellish the little carriage with your favorite trinkets. I embellished it with laces, ribbons, bows, pearls and a wooden star embellishment. :)

Sharing a few pictures of the mini album it holds :-

This tag album was made with the help of  die-cut cards by Simple stories-Hello baby and Papericious 6 by 6 paper pad- Little Star from the store.

I've added a shaker element with colorful sequins on each tag and there's a pocket behind each die-cut card to insert a photo. I liked keeping my embellishments to a minimum for this mini album. That cute baby footprints Washi tape is also from the Lulupu store. There are some lovely designs of washi available HERE.

Okay, so that's it. I know it was a long one this time. I hope you are not bored.:P
Do let me know how you liked this. I always look forward to what you have to say about my work. :)
If you have any doubts, leave in the comments below and I'll try to get back asap.

Eagerly awaiting to see your baby-themed projects now. Link them up HERE

Until then, happy crafting !

Denim Bag using Papericious Pattern Paper

Hello Everyone,

It's Roshni here and today I have a Denim Bag Album to share with you that I made for Challenge #61 - Mini Albums.

I have used  Naturals Paper Pack by Papericious. As soon as I saw the denim papers I wanted to create a bag and after looking at some denim bag images for reference this is what I made :)

The album has a total of 6 pages and the pages measure 6" x 6.5". Every page has a top loading pocket. To embellish the album I have used Papericious adhesive buttons and White and Brown Fabric Tapes.

The album looks like a bag from the outside.

Altered Spool / Picture Tutorial

Hello Everyone,
Its Roshni here and today for the February Challenge  Hearts & Arrows I have made a 3D project. I received this Needle & Thread Kaisercraft Paper Pad in my DT kit and inspired by this awesome paper pack I made a spool. It was an ideal valentine gift for my mom as she loves stitching. I used this pretty pattern paper to cover the spool and fussy cut a lot of elements from the paper pack to decorate it..... since the theme for the February Challenge was hearts I also used another paper from My Golden Garden Paper Pad  that was also a part of my DT kit.. sharing the tutorial followed by a few pictures of my project.

Challenge #58: Hearts And Arrows + Tutorial

Hello and Welcome, folks ! :)

This is Jasleen, back with a brand new challenge for the month of February. But before that, let me thank all of you who participated in the 2-0-1-6 recipe challenge last month. We’ll be announcing the winners very soon. Stay tuned.

Challenge # 58

Hearts & Arrows

Read the general guidelines for the challenges here

Specific rules for this challenge are:
1. Create a card, layout or a 3D project.
2. Use hearts AND arrows(both) in your project, in ADDITION TO any other embellishments you wish to use. The hearts and arrows could either be from a patterned paper, stamped, die-cuts, stickers, hand drawn, wood veneer or sew on your project- just anything. But make sure hearts and arrows are visible.

3. Try and use colours OTHER THAN RED & PINK. Though RED & PINK ARE ALLOWED, we'd like to see how you get creative with the colours.

4. Last date for the submission of the entries is 29th of February, 2016, 11:55 P.M. IST

Here’s what I've come up with, for this month’s challenge . Since this is the month of Love, I dedicate this to my love for crafting.

I got these fabulous patterned papers from Kaisercraft- Needle and thread in my DT kit . So, I made this double flip-box using these papers. All the floral cut-outs, those spool images, labels are from this collection itself.

I think the Kaisercraft- needle and thread collection of patterned papers are just perfect for making these kind of keepsake boxes for storing those little crafty trinkets, sewing stuff like spools, yarn, etc . Ofcourse  the store-bought plastic containers also do this job pretty well, but then we are crafty people, if something's not done creatively, it's a job half done, isn't it?  ;)

Spotlight Designer - Ramya Anand

Good Morning!
This month we have Ramya Anand guest designing for us. Ramya's creations are warm & cheerful & she has a knack of using bright colors with ease!

So over to her now -

Hi Lulupu team,

Thank you for inviting me as the guest designer of this month!! This is very special to me as this is my first Guest designer post for any blog.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I hail from Coimbatore ( Tamilnadu) and have completed M.tech in electrical and electronics engineering. After marriage I got settled in California (US). My mom also loves to make crafts and jewellery. Both my parents motivated me to do lots of crafts right from my childhood. Now am also lucky to get a husband who respects my work as much as I do and doesn't bother about the house becoming a mess due to crafting.

2. How did you become interested in crafts and what inspired you to start blogging?
I have been a creative person from my childhood. I used to get immense pleasure sending handmade cards to my relatives on special occasions. My mom and me used to make lots of decorations for Navarathri. The feedback and the appreciation that I got for my creations motivated me to keep my crafting alive. After marriage I got settled in US . To overcome my boredom I began to craft regularly. Seeing my interest my husband suggested me to start a blog.

3. What are some of your "go-to" supplies for crafting?
Hmmm ... Distress ink pads, Hot glue gun , flower punches etc

4. What is your favorite crafting technique?
Not one I have three favorite techniques.
1. Jewelry making: I love to wear the jewelry designed by me matching my outfits.
2. Altered art: The joy of recycling an item and creating something new out of it.
3. Mixed media: ( My recent love).. .I love mixed media for the suspense and the freedom it gives.

5. How would you describe your crafting style?
When I see a challenge theme I frame a basic idea in my mind and start researching about it. I love projects that involves a lot of challenges to me so I will zero down the most difficult project. In the process of making that project I learn a lot of things. Even if it didn't come as I wished I will get the satisfaction that I tried something new.

6. How long have you been crafting?
Serious crafting began 2 years ago.

7. My signature style
Bright and bold colors with lots of flowers describe my signature style. I love to add lots of embellishments and flowers to my craft.

8. Who are some of your influences? Who has been your inspiration?
For jewelry making I would choose colors and designs from Indian sarees. For mixed media i will refer to Shilpa Nagaonkar , Jaya Raghuvanshi and Gabrielle Pollaco. I will also refer to the magazine called Paperhaus for layouts and canvas works. For writing an interesting post and lots of altered art ideas I refer to Rupa's blog. Recently I started following Marjie Kemper for her art journals and Catherine for card making techniques.

9. When not crafting , what keeps you busy?
Playing badminton with friends, Zumba dance classes, playing piano and reading magazines. On weekends I will go long hikes with my husband.

10. What are you currently working on?
Am currently learning different art journaling and mixed media techniques.

Thank you Ramya & now lets head over to the cheerful inspirational tutorial she has for all of us.

For making this project materials needed are:

1. Empty tissue rolls (2)
2. Floral wire thin and thick
3.tissue paper
4. Hot glue gun
5. Paints
6. Crepe paper for making flowers
7. Materials for decoration like lace , pearls etc

Procedure:

Step 1: Cut two circular pieces from tissue paper rolls and wrap it with tissue paper.

Step 2: Twist two floral wires and cut them into small pieces such that it fits inside the circular piece. Wrap it with the tissue paper and glue it to the tyre.

In a similar way make three tyres.

Step 4 : Take a thick wire and join the two small tyres. Using the same wire make the handle and the front of the cycle ( as shown in the pic above)

Step 5: Glue the front portion of the bicycle to the front wheel. Join the front and back of the cycle using a thick wire.

Basket and flowers:

I made the basket by weaving 4 strips of paper.

The flowers are hand cut as my punches doesn't support crepe papers.

Painting and other tips:
Since the bicycle is made of tissue paper use dry brush technique for paining it. I used fevicryl acrylic colors.
The bicycle cannot withstand weight so do not try to add more embellishments to it. If you want a more sturdy bicycle you can use empty tape rolls. But I felt tissue paper roll is easy to cut and hence I tried making with it.

For stability you can tie floral wire at the joints as shown in the above picture.

So a mini bicycle is ready to decorate your craft table!! Hope you all like my craft!!

Wow Ramya this is absolutely adorable. Thank you so much for the tutorial!

Remember you still have time to enter the current challenge - BABY - A little bit of heaven.

Cheers,
Tanvi
