(Kn)OWL(edge) with The Stamping Chef

I had this adorable image from The Stamping Chef to colour for this
I adored (kn)OWL(edge) when Tamara released her and have loved colouring her.

I decided to combine this challenge with the Colour Palate Challenge at Kit and Clowder. It was part of the 4,000 Members party - and wow what a party it was! If you're not a member yet it's well worth joining - all sorts of colouring and merriment going on over there & the classes Alyce has are brilliant.

This is the colour palate I was using as inspiration.

The theme at Through the Purple Haze Challenges is Stitching Real or Faux so I used my sewing machine to add texture to the tree. I used three different coloured threads, but unfortunately didn't think the colour the base of the tree in until afterwards so some of the contrasting colours of the threads was lost. I'm pleased with the effect.

This is what I created.

Here are some close ups.

I coloured her with my copics

Skin - E000, E00, E21, E11, E04, with R20 Cheeks
Hair - N9, N7, N5, V09, V17, V15
Eyes - B21, B24
Glasses - B02, B05
Tshirt Top - B00, B02, B05
Vest Top - BG10, BG11, BG13
Shorts - BV13, BV17, BV25, BV9

I tried to add some texture to Mr Owl while colouring.
I used Copics E41, E42, E43, E44, E47
Glasses - B02, B05
Beak - Y15, Y17, Y35, YR23

The brackets are from an EK Success punch.
The tree is E23

I created the background using copics in my Blitzer hand airbrush tool (basically the same as the Tim Holtz Spritzer but it's something I've had since I was a kid in the 90's). You put the pen in and squeeze the bladder and a fine spray of ink comes out. I love the effect it gives for backgrounds.

I created the mount by spraying black card with Cosmic Shimmer Sprays
to echo the shimmery flakes in the inspiration photo.

I really hope you like my creation. Come over and join us at Through the Purple Haze Challenges with your stitching on your cards.

Bingo with The Stamping Chef

The challenge this week at Through the Purple Haze Challenges is sponsored by The Stamping Chef and involves a bingo card.

We had to choose a line - either horizontal, vertical or diagonal and include all of those elements in the card. I chose the middle horizontal line.

This is what I created with Rockabilly Boom who I love!

Lots of fun and colour in this one. I started with a plain black piece of card and spritzed it with various Cosmic Shimmer Sprays. It's a bit difficult to catch the shimmer in a photo, but it's really pretty and looks a bit like outer space.

The sentiment is from the Silhouette Store and I cut it from glitter vinyl I bought in the sale at Hobbycraft. Again it's difficult to catch the glitter on the camera, but trust me it shines.

I added the 'flames' from the back of the rocket using metallic gold thread and a leaf pattern on my sewing machine.

I coloured Rockabilly Boom with my Promarkers and mounted her on black foam dots.

Skin - Blush, Sunkissed Pink, Coral, Burnt Orange with Pastel Pink cheeks
Lips - Antique Pink
Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna
Swim Suit - Turquoise, Marine, Petrol Blue
Rocket - Ice Grey 3,4,5. Red, Berry Red, Cardinal Red, Burgundy. Yellow, True Blue

I really hope you like her. Don't forget to pop over to Through the Purple Haze to join in the Bingo fun.

Happy Birthday Tamara!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday Dear Tamara!
Happy Birthday to You!

xxx

Today's a very special day! The wonderful Tamara - the amazing talent behind The Stamping Chef - celebrates her birthday! Now Tamara doesn't seem to enjoy her birthday so a certain Miss Betty of Simply Betty Stamps  decided to organise this surprise birthday hop for her and designed the gorgeous Rockin Birthday Cutie for her :D Tamara I hope you're beaming from ear to ear by seeing all the love for you.

The hop started at the Simply Betty Blog  and you should have arrived with me from Kerrie-anne

I was chatting to Tamara the other day and telling her about my friend's tradition of deleting the pesky first number off the front of our age and celebrate a much more fun birthday. As a result I'm wishing Tamara a very happy 4th birthday :P :P :P

I decided to try one of the fun pop up cards that have been spreading around the Facebook craft groups.

When you take the card out of the envelope it's flat and very plain looking.

But when you take it out of the envelope magic happens and the card opens up into a free standing pop up box!

This angle gives you a peek of the pop up base.

I've only tried this style of card once before and love the amount of depth you can create.

I designed the balloons myself by combining an oval and a triangle in SCAL3 and cutting them on my Cougar. I coloured them with my Promarkers and attached them to thin strips of acetate cut from plastic packaging so they looked as if they are floating.

Looking from above you can see how two slats are added to the inside to give different places to mount the balloons.

From the side you can see how much depth this gives to the embellishments.

I used this clear sentiment stamp from Fiskars which I thought was appropriate.

Here's a close up of Rockin Birthday Cutie, my balloons and my cheeky 4th Birthday celebration.

I really hope you've enjoyed my creation. Your next stop on the Hop is Floss

Keep Calm and Craft

We had a really fun image to play with from The Stamping Chef this month - this montage of Keep Calm and Craft. This was a really fun image to colour - well outside my normal comfort zone.

I coloured the image.and then use it in two ways - on a crafting T-Shirt & to update the cover on my crafting notebook.

Here's a couple of closer shots

I asked Tamara's permission before making the T-Shirt as I wanted to check it was ok with her angel policy. I scanned my coloured image and printed it onto T-Shirt Transfer paper designed for dark fabrics. The t-shirt is actually navy blue although it looks more black in the photos. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out although it did loose a lot of the detail in the scan. I love having a personalised t-shirt to wear on crafting adventures.

I used a range of bright colours from my Promarker collection:
Red, Berry Red, Burgundy
Bright Orange, Orange, Burnt Orange
Lemon, Yellow, Gold
Bright Green, Forest Green
Sky Blue, Azure, Royal Blue
Purple, Aubergine
Ice Grey 2, 4.5 and Black
Tan, Caramel

Thanks for the lovely image Tamara x

Happy Birthday Betty!!!!

Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday Dear Betty,
Happy Birthday to You.

It's Betty' Birthday and the lovely Corinne has organised a huge Birthday blog hop for her. It's a great big long hop as so many people love Betty. You should have started the hop here and come to me from Karen.

The wonderful Tamara from The Stamping Chef created this wonderful Digi just for Betty's Birthday. I decided to make something a bit different so made a banner rather than a card. I used the Haunted Banner from the Silhouette Store

A couple of close ups

And this is the lovely Queen of Halloween

I coloured her with my Promarkers and tried some different colour combinations which I'm actually really happy with.

Skin - Cocoa, Caramel, Satin with Sunkissed Pink Cheeks
Hair - Walnut, Umber, Black
Hat & Skirt - Ice Grey 3, 4, 5, Black
Eyes & Bodice - Lush Green, Pine. I added Green Tiara Sakura pen to the eyes for her shimmery eyeshadow
Shirt & Skirt - Ivory & Satin
Bat & Skull - Silver gel pen

I hope you like her Betty & hope you're enjoying the hop.

Your next stop is Dianna

Sweet Summer

A very early start for me today as I was awake at 4am for no apparent reason! When it got to 6am I gave up trying to sleep & got up, so crafting started early! It's hardly a hardship with lovely images to play with though.

This week's challenge digi at The Stamping Chef's Facebook Page was Sweet Summer. I again combined it with the inspiration photo from Just Inspirational Challenges.

Here she is

I again used the 'sunkissed' skin tone I tried last week - cocoa, cinnamon & tan with rose pink cheeks.

Her dress is sky blue, azure & true blue with arctic blue on the under skirt. I thought this along with the sentiment tied in nicely with the inspirational photo.

Her hair is buttercup, yellow & canary - nice and summery.

The sentiment is from Ginger's House

I really hope you like her & would love to hear what you think x

I would like to enter her into Paula Holifield Crafts Summer Sun Challenge

Surf's Up!

A summery themed card today using this week's challenge freebie from The Stamping Chef Facebook page. I happened to look at the Just Inpirational Challenges blog and thought their colour inspiration this week would work very nicely with the digi

This is the colour palette for the challenge:

and this is my card:

I think I've tied all the colours in nicely :D

The paper was from a 6x6 stack from Fancy Pants Designs called Beach Babe. The background is a bit yellower than it appears in the photo.

The Sentiment is from Create with TLC

I ventured away from my normal Promarker skin tones this time as I wanted this Surfing Babe to have a lovely tan so I used:

Skin - Cocoa, Cinnamon, Tan, Rose Pink Cheeks
Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna
Costume - Cerise, Shocking Pink*, Vermillion*
Surf Board - Sky Blue, Azure True Blue
- Lemon, Yellow, Canary

Edit: I'm very proud to say this card has been awarded Top 3 in both challenges I entered it into:

A Raver and an inspiration photo Challenge

I've made two cards today - both for challenges.

The first is inspired by the photo on the Just Inspirational Challenges challenge

As soon as I saw it a digi I own from Jellypark called Girl in a Bee Costume popped into me head  so I made this card :D

The sentiment is from Create with TLC  and the background digi paper is from Sassy Designs

I'd like to enter this into the Just Inspirational Challenges Challenge

Edit: 30/7/12 - WOW how exciting I got picked as Top 3 for the Just Inspirational Challenges :D Thank you so much! I'm over the Moon!

By coincidence the sponsor for the Just Inspirational Challenge is The Stamping Chef & that's who my other digi is designed by.

I used tulip yellow, sunflower, Gold & raw sienna for her hair
and cerise, shocking pink* and maroon for her outfit.

The sentiment is again by Create with TLC
