Rapunzel in her Tower!

Our Challenge this week at Through The Purple Haze Challenges is to 'Try a New Folding Technique'

We're lucky enough to be sponsored by Stitchy Bear and the wonderful Kay from Hougie provided us with instructions on how to make a Pop Up Box Card.

I had Rapunzel  by Ike's Art at Stitchy Bear to play with.
I decided to extend the height of the pop up box to make it into her tower.
I found some a printable stone wall pattern and arranged it so it filled a A4 sheet
& printed it on both sides of the card.

Making the Pop Up Box Card was a breeze on my Hougie Board
(I've told you many times before how much I love it haven't I? :P )

To build a bit of a scene I added black card to the back layer and hand cut a 'Tower window' to attach to the middle layer so she looks like she's standing in her tower.
Viewed from the side you can see the different layers.

and from above you can see them even more clearly
(they are actually straight even though they look decidedly wonky in the photo).

I coloured Rapunzel using a combination of Promarkers and Copics. I fussy cut around her and then trimmed around the bottom section of her hair so it hangs over the edge of the tower.

Promarkers:

Skin - Blush, Sunkissed Pink, Coral. Burnt Orange with Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna
Dress - Copics - V04, V06, V09

I really hope you like her.

Thank you our sponsors:

I'd like to enter this into the following challenges:

Feeling Crafty - Anything for a Child (several people have said how much their daughters/ grandaughters would love receiving this as they'd love to be Rapunzel.)

Amazing News!!!!!

I have amazing news to share with you! A couple of days ago I was approached and asked if I'd like to join the Kenny K's Krafty Krew Core 4!!!!

After sitting in shock for a while & then bouncing off the ceiling with excitement I of course said yes! How could I have said no!!!! What an honour to be asked! I've loved Kenny K's digis for ages so it's amazing to be on the team. I'm going to have a great time and am very proud to display this badge

There are fortnightly challenges over at Kenny K's Krafty Krew so pop over and have a look. At the moment there's a great blog candy up for grabs.

To celebrate I decided to have a play with the Easter Elements that are available as a freebie this month from Kenny K (scroll down and on the left hand side). I paired them with Happy Hour to make this Egg holder.

The design for the fold is the Gift in a Bottle Card from Hougie Mini Masterpiece Book. I tweaked the sizes to accommodate the eggs as mini eggs just wouldn't do, and made it using my Hougie Board

To give the effect I wanted I used the Cut Out Studio in Craft Artist 2 to remove small section of the basket handle and the bottom of the ears so it sat right.

I coloured her using my Promarkers:

Skin - Burnt Orange, Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush with Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Raw Sienna, Gold, Sunflower, Tulip Yellow
Lips - Dusky Rose, Antique Pink
Eyes - Sky Blue, Azure, True Blue

Dress - Orchid, Purple, Aubergine
Basket - Cinnamon, Cocoa, Henna
Egg - Pink Carnation, Rose Pink
Bunny Tail - Satin
Bunny Ears - Rose Pink, Ice Grey 1, Lilac (which I actually picked up by accident but it luckily worked nicely :P )
Martini - Cool Aqua, Satin, Olive Green

I hope you like her.

Tattered Lace Oriental Elements Concertina card

This week I was lucky enough to be able to play with the Oriental Embellishment Die from Tattered Lace. As the die is a collection of embellishments I thought a bit laterally about how to use them and combine as many as possible. I've seen diorama/ concertina cards in the past and thought I'd have a go at making my own.

Using my trusty Hougie board it was nice and easy. I simply trimmed a piece of A4 card to the right height and then used a card the size of the back (in this case 6x4) as a size guide. I positioned this roughly in the middle and scored at 1cm lines out from each edge. After doing the Hougie Trick it made a nice concertina fold at each side.

I cut some base layers and attached the Tattered Lace die cuts to them. I made 3 layers - the front with the bridge, one with the trees and one with the temple. I used strong double sided tape to attach each layer to one of the concertina folds. I glued a pair of foliage directly to the concertina fold to add height and a different angle.

I made the background using Dylusions Sprays - Sky Blue, Midnight Blue and Crushed Grape with some mica spray to add some shimmer.

I really hope you like it. I love the dimension it gives, while still in a way that will fold flat enough to fit in a normal envelope to post.

I'd love to know what you think & look forward to seeing your entries to this week's challenge at Through the Purple Haze Challenges

Simply Betty's Thanksgiving Little Indian

It's Facebook challenge time at Simply Betty and this time it has a Thanksgiving theme. We had a choice of  Pilgrim Corinne or Little Indian Betty. I decided to use Little Indian Betty and after a bit of thought made her her own teepee using the instructions for the Mini Pyramid Card in the Hougie Mini Masterpiece Project Book

You can see I put the sentiment in the inside and used hook and loop spots to keep the TeePee closed.

The added challenge within the challenge was to use feathers - I used these pheasant feathers which I acquired recently.

I used my Promarkers:
Hair - Black, Umber, Walnut
Skin - Cocoa, Cinnamon, Tan
Eyes & Lips - Henna, Walnut
Dress - Sandstone, Caramel
Berry Red, True Blue
Bow and Arrow - Gold, Amber

I'd love to hear what you think x

Use Pink, Purple or Red

The challenge this week at Through the Purple Haze Challenges is to use Red. Pink or Purple. Challenge??? That's not a challenge! They're among my favourite colours so not a challenge at all to use. Our sponsor this week is Sassy Studio Designs and I had two lovely Sassy ladies to play with.

My first Sassy Lady is Jessica Rabbit Sassy. She struck me as such a strong, powerful woman that I decided to team her with a Tickled Pink Breast Cancer theme.

The Background paper is a freebie from Link Up for Pink. I changed the writing colour from black to pink.
The Strong Brave and Beautiful Sentiment is a freebie from Gingers House  and I made the other sentiment myself. I cut them out on my Cougar & added a little sparkle with Sakura Tiara gel pens.

The card design is the Stepper Card from the Hougie Mini Masterpiece Project Book made on my trusty Hougie. From the side you can see the shape of it.

I coloured Jessica Rabbit Sassy  with my Promarkers

Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush with Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Cocoa, Henna, Chestnut, Walnut
Dress - Cerise, Shocking Pink*, Maroon
Lips, Eyeshadow & a touch on the Shoes - Pink Sakura Tiara Gel Pen

I'd like to enter this to the following challenges:

Now as if Jessica Rabbit Sassy wasn't enough I was also lucky enough to have Valentine Honey to play with as well. This time I decided to go with 'Red'

This is another card design from the Hougie Mini Masterpiece Project Book  and one I've not tried before. As with all the Hougie projects it looks complicated but is actually very simple.

The front is a swirly digi paper I have - origin unknown. I mounted a Happy Birthday sticker on a piece of Tim Holtz Fragments and backed it with white and red card. The iridescent ribbon is from my stash and sticks to the back of the card, but is loose along the front so the card can open.

How effective is this fold? So simple yet looks so good!

I coloured Valentine Honey  with my Promarkers:

Skin - Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush with Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair - Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold, Raw Sienna
Lips - Antique Pink
Bikini & Hearts - Red, Cardinal Red. Highlights with white gel pen

I'd like to enter this into these challenges:

Crafty Catz - Not a Square - it is, but it isn't :P

I really hope you like my cards. I'm looking forward to seeing your Red, Pink or Purple entries over at Through the Purple Haze Challenges

Digi Galore Challenge - Summer

It's challenge time over at Digi Galore again. This fortnight the theme is Holidays and our sponsor is Sassy Studio Designs

I decided to create a corner bookmark for a holiday journal for someone going on holiday to China. I used my Hougie Board to make the corner bookmark and China Honey from Sassy Studio Designs.

The background paper and tags are from a Papermania pack called Oriental Treasures.
I coloured China Honey with my Promarkers
and printed the words in a the free Shanghai font from DA Font and foiled it on my Foilmaster from Thyme Graphics

Hougie Concertina Butterfly & Special Effect Bar Code

I've been playing with my Hougie board & more projects from Everyone Needs a Hougie 3.

These Concertina Butterflies are so easy to make on the Hougie but look so different & unusual.

I made several more and made them into a rudimentary mobile.

My other card uses the Bar Code Special Effect to create detail on the left hand side of the card.

I used the Lovely Gorjuss Stamp - New Heights & coloured her with my Promarkers.
I used red spotty paper tape to embellish the card & a birthday stamp of an unknown make.

Here's a close up of the Bar code detailing. I tried two different widths & think on this card I prefer the narrower one.

It's been very exciting today as my Butterfly card, Gorjuss Book Spine Gatefold card & Tool Box appeared on Kay's show on Create & Craft. It's the first time anything I've made has appeared on TV & I'm like a very excited little kid :D

Hougie Bookspine Gatefold Cards

I've been playing with another of the ideas from Everyone Needs a Hougie 3. It's funny how an idea that doesn't jump at you immediately can turn out to be something you love. This is the Bookspine Gatefold Card. Very simple to make but so effective.

This is the card I made for my Mum's birthday.

I used my new Gorjuss Stamp set - I found my Family in a Book
The papers are from the Gorjuss Ultimate Paper & Die Cut pack The ones on the side are actually a dark turquoise but have come out grey in the photo.

I coloured the little girl with my Promakers:
Skin: Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush, Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair: Henna, Chestnut, Burgundy, Walnut
Dress & Butterflies: Turquoise, Marine, Petrol Blue
Boots: Caramel, Burnt Sienna

As you can see the side panels sit flat for posting but tuck under her arms so they stand up for display.

I also made an envelope for it using my Hougie board & washi tape

This is the same card base made with paper from the Tulip & Friends DVD from Do Crafts & some Anita's peel off stickers

Promarkers used:
Skin: Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush, Pastel Pink Cheeks
Hair: Tulip Yellow, Sunflower, Gold
Dress & Butterflies: Carmine, Shocking Pink Flexmarker, Vermillion Flexmarker
Boots: Caramel, Burnt Sienna

I used my trusty Cougar Cutting Machine from Thyme Graphics to cut out the Gorjuss girl & elements in the second card. I did this by stamping the images, scanning them in & tracing the outline in Inkscape. I then deleted the scanned version as I only wanted it for the outline & didn't want to breach copyright.

I cut the outlines from a sheet of Diamond White cardstock & while still on the carrier mat I stamped the images. I used my Stampin' Up Stamp-A-Ma-Jig  to make sure the rubber stamp was in exactly the right place on the card.

It took a bit of time to set up but now means I can have a fussy cut shape without having to cut it by hand

Hougie Tool Chest

On Page 23 of Everyone Needs a Hougie 3 there is a Dresser made of matchboxes.

Me being me I decided to interpret it slightly differently & made this Tool Chest.

I used the basic instructions but added a flap top like you see on the big tool chests that go in garages.

I used some sizzlits tool dies & layered 4 card layers of each tool together to make it more substantial.

I used silver peel off stickers to imitate the silver bar along the front of the drawers & Papermania Chronology Brads that look like flat head screws as the handles.

I hope you like it - I'd love to know what you think
