sweet sunday sketch challenge #20

Good morning - It's time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge! Here is the deal: make a card with this layout and use Mr. Linky down at the end of my post to enter your card. On Thursday at 2 PM (Mountain Time), I'll randomly select one card to feature on my blog. So, as long as your card is linked in the Mr. Linky box by 2 PM Thursday, your card will be in the drawing. Be sure to link directly to the blog post or gallery image which features your card. You may post a picture of the sketch on your blog, but please save the image to your computer first. Use the keyword SSSC20 if you plan to post your card in an online gallery.

Today's sketch comes to you from Paper Crafts Magazine, page 57 in the May/June issue, and it just happens that the card I was inspired by is made by fellow Baker's Dozen gal, Ana Wohlfahrt, isn't that cool?! I was flipping through pages trying to find some sketch inspiration and instantly stopped on this page when I saw her darling lollipop card. You may be surprised to see I've used Trendy Trees, lol! I really just can't help myself, plus I'm trying to use up the last bits and pieces of Maine Blueberry - the new catalog will be coming out in a few months and I need to clear out some space! I'm excited to see what Stampin' Up! will be offering this summer - definitely be looking for another embellishment and paper share - *wink*

Now it's your turn - have fun!

Dr's Orders

It's Friday and time for another sketch from Taylor - TECC70. I can't believe she's done 70 sketch challenges already! I'm also joining in on the Two By Two challenge over at Stampin' Out Alzheimers. Very fun!

For this card I'm using a lot of paper-piecing with Doctors Orders - isn't this little cuppie so cute in her gorgeous bed? I thought it would be fun to have her in chocolate polka dot jammies. I added some Mini & Micro Twinkle Dots from a.muse to the little flowers on the comforter. I sure wouldn't mind relaxing and resting today, for sure!

Hop on over and check out the challenge - see you back soon!
Karen

See you back soon!

mojo for a cause

Hi! I really want to participate in the challenges over at Stampin' Out Alzheimer's this week - oh how I wish I had more free time! Today I'm doing the Mojo challenge - don't you just love this layout? I think it's just so unique! When I made this card there was an alternative color palette with Regal Rose, Apricot Appeal, Certainly Celery, and Garden Green - lovely together, aren't they? Since I still had my Trendy Trees set out, I just used it (I really had to have my arm twisted on that one...).

If you haven't signed up to join the Stampin' Out Alzheimer's site, you should go take a look-see. They are having amazing giveaways every day over there - you really don't want to miss out! What a great way to support research for such a horribly dibilitating disease. Hope to see you there!

Have a fantastic day -
Karen

recipe -

a little help from my favorite places

I seem to have lost some mojo over the weekend and so I hopped over to Clean & Simple Stamping and Color Throwdown for a little jumpstart. Boy am I so glad I did! I'm combining the challenges for today. This week the colors are Lovely Lilac, Elegant Eggplant, and Old Olive - I am so surprised how lovely they look together! I don't think I've touched Lovely Lilac since someone had a special order for it a long time ago. The sketch is FTL43 and it's a lovely one (well, they are always awesome!).
I stamped the flower from Eastern Blooms in Lovely Lilac and then colored sections of it with my Elegant Eggplant Stampin' Write marker. To add a little dimension to the flower, I added some rhinestones and Taylor's Tiny Twinkles to the center. I just used a tiny dab of Tombo Multi Adhesive to add the Tiny Twinkles to the flower.

Thanks for stopping by!
Karen

sweet sunday sketch challenge #19 & a BONUS!

Use the keyword SSSCSOA if you plan to post your card in an online gallery.

When I saw this card by Sarah-Jane, I knew I had to use it as a sketch challenge. I just love it's simplicity and the creative little row of flowers. Now, if someone over in Australia could please pick Sarah-Jane up off the floor and make sure she gets some water, that would be fantastic! I think I just heard her squeals of delight from across the ocean, lol!

Now for some exciting news! Want to win a $25 shopping spree at Taylored Expressions? I know you do! As some of you may know, Jennifer Tapler has set up an amazing event to raise funds for the American Alzheimer's Association called Stampin' Out Alzheimer's. This is a week long event where members will have access to freebies, challenges, classes, and contests in a variety of papercrafting catagories. To help out in this amazing event, I am hosting a sketch challenge and for each card you create using this sketch, you'll be entered into the random prize drawing.

You will have:
1 entry for creating a card using the sketch
2 entries for using the sketch & Taylored Expressions stamps.

Only those cards entered in the Stampin' Out Alzheimer's gallery will be eligible for the $25 shopping spree at Taylored Expressions. Upload a photo of your creation to the gallery at the SOA site using the tag "SSSCSOA" (all capital letters). We'll use this tag to find the submissions and select a winner, so please be sure to tag your photo correctly! Deadline to enter is Midnight EDT May 31 (you'll have all day on the 31st to keep playing!). This challenge will be posted on the SOA website at 10:00 PM Mountain Time tonight in the challenges/announcements tab. You will definitely want to check out all the challenges for the week - so many prizes, so little time!

To register, please go to the Stampin' Out Alzheimer's website - a $5 donation is required and all proceeds from these memberships will be donated to the American Alzheimer's Association.

Okay, now it's your turn - have fun with this one and I hope to find you on the SOA site! And don't forget to add your card to Mr. Linky here too.

more trendy trees

I SO love this set. I think it is one of my absolute favorites and I know I'll be holding onto this one for a very long time. I CASE'd this card out of our demonstrator magazing Stampin' Success (page 25 of the June issue) and I absolutely love how it turned out. I changed the colors and ribbon treatment and I didn't have the wheel that coordinates with Trendy Trees, so I just stamped the trees all in a row with my stamp-a-ma-jig. Love that tool! I think this is the first time I've used these cute little clips too! So fun! Oh, and how do you like how my watermark matches Trendy Trees? Just noticed that! haha!

Have a fabulous day!

sweet sunday sketch

Hello! I just wanted to pop on here and let you know that I've extended the deadline for Sweet Sunday Sketch entries until Friday at 2PM. Mr. Linky has been terribly ill today, I'm afraid, and many of you haven't been able to post your links. I'm not entirely sure what is going on, but Mr. Linky has been causing trouble on other blogs too. So all of you that would still like to participate, please do - can't wait to see all of your fabulous creations!

bright & cheery

Good morning! Today I thought I'd make a card using some more of this delicious May Key Ingredients kit from Taylored Expressions, along with Taylor's sketch this week TECC68. Don't you just love this deep, rich pink? It's amazing the different looks you can get with this kit - yesterday's post showed the soft and cooler colors and today it bright and sumery. I used two of my flower punches from EKsuccess to make my little layered flower and attached it using a pink brad that also came with the kit.

Thanks for stopping by!
Karen

recipe -

key ingredients challenge

Good morning! I'm so excited it is time for the May Key Ingredients Challenge, to celebrate the release of this month's Key Ingredients kit. You are going to LOVE this kit! The colors are so awesome and it comes with Dew Drops, hardware, and of course lots of yumm-o-licious ribbon. Don't miss out on a single kit, get a 3 or 6-month subscription and all of these fun items will arrive on your doorstep before anyone else sees them!

Everyone needs a stash of cards on hand for those times when you need to get something out in the mail today, but you have no time to stamp. Our challenge this month is to make an all-occasion card for those times we need to grab a card on the fly. Our required element is to use stitching, faux or real and our restricted element is NO sentiment on the front. How fun!!

I used Mojo87 for my sketch and Branching Out for my images and colored them in with Copic markers - the paper is so delish from this May Key Ingredients, love it!! I added some purple Dew Drops in the corner for a little extra somethin' and then added my stitching element around the square. The key to making faux stitching look real is to drag your pen into each hole instead of using a straight edge. It gives it a look of thread instead of a line of marker.

Thanks for stopping by today! Please hop on over to the other half of the Baker's Dozen to see their take on today's challenge.
You can join in on the fun and win some fun goodies - just head on over to Taylor's blog for all the details!

Ana Wohlfahrt

a sweet case

Hello! I got my June issue of Stampin' Success (a SU demo magazine) and right on the cover is this sweet little card that I immediately CASE'd and I just love how it turned out. I think what caught my eye on the SS cover was the ribbon with the brad cinching the ribbon together, so I copied it by using a Latte button. I also used a felt flower and large white brad for the focal point. The original card had layered flowers which were cut out. There isn't ANY stamping on here! What??? Just paper and embellishments, gotta love that. There are a couple other card I want to CASE from this issue too, so stay tuned!

Happy stamping!

Use the keyword SSSC18 if you plan to post your card at SplitcoastStampers.

I'm going back to basics with this card today: stamps, ink, and paper. Can you believe not an ounce of ribbon, or brads, or buttons? I know, it's shocking! I actually sat there pondering where to put an embellishment or two, but I just couldn't figure it out. They say when you start to hover over the card, you're done, so I stopped - lol.
OK, now it's your turn - have fun!

dad's birthday

Yes, you are at the right blog, and yes, there is a masculine card here - lol! Today is my dad's birthday and I made this card for him using Mojo73 for the layout.
My dad took us camping every summer growing up, and those trips are some of my most cherished memories. Nothing bonds a family together like camping - I'm talking about camping here people, the kind where there is no one around for miles and miles and we would all sleep in this giant old army tent. My dad would have a pistol holstered on his hip "just in case". We never did see any bears or mountain lions, thank goodness, I always felt so safe on those trips - my dad was there. Looking back on it now, my mom must have been freaking out. I don't think I could take all 3 of my kids so far into the remote wilderness and just let them go exploring with only a whistle strung around their neck to blow in case of an emergency. I miss those trips. Come to find out later, one of the best places we used to camp is apparently full of unexploded land mines, buried during WWII. Sheesh! Just how did I survive childhood?
Oh how I wish digital cameras would have been invented 30+ years ago - my childhood photos are looking so worn with time, but I love this picture of me and my brother with my dad, my mom always behind the lens, with the Rocky Mountains in the background. We always thought it was so much fun to find snow in the middle of summer, hiking around in shorts and a wind breaker. I think I'm 6, my daughter's age and Dave is 3, my son's age and this is such a classic picture of us - me, wrapping myself around my dad's leg and David wanting to see everything from up high.

recipe -
stamps: pines (retired), birthday whimsy (retired)
ink: basic brown
paper: always artichoke, chocolate chip, whisper white cardstock, retired dsp
accessories: kraft cordouroy brad, 1" chocolate chip grosgrain ribbon, horizontal slit punch, stampin' dimensionals

rock-a-bye-baby

Well since I had Nursery Necessities sitting on my desk, I just had to use it again for this card too! I colored the boat with my Stampin' Write Markers - Ruby Red, Bashful Blue, and Not Quite Navy - and used Taylor's TECC67 for the layout. I just love these colors together for boy cards and I need to use them more! My math-major-self wanted to keep that boat at a 90 degree angle though, that was tough keeping it askew, haha! That's the reason I love sketch challenges, it keeps me out of my box.

Ok, I'm off to clean off the desk - it's a little frightening!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: nursery necessities
ink: stampin' write markers - bashful blue, not quite navy, ruby red
paper: not quite navy, ruby red, very vanilla cardstock, old retired dsp

welcome, little one

I think Nursery Necessitites is my absolute favorite baby set I have. It's simply adorable!! Today I'm using Cambria's sketch WSC80 and chose some monochromatic blues by rummaging through my stash of old retired paper and I found this sheet from an old Christmas pack. Nice! I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the image a couple times in the same place to get a bolder image and then placed the sentiment underneath. I'll do this with my SAMJ for my stamps that are big, solid images and it works great!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: nursery necessities
ink: bashful blue, staz-on black
paper: bashful blue, not quite navy, whisper white cardstock, retired holiday paper (can't remember the name)

sweet sunday sketch challenge #17

Good morning - It's time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge! Here is the deal: make a card with this layout and use Mr. Linky down at the end of my post to enter your card. On Thursday at 2 PM (Mountain Time), I'll randomly select one card to feature on my blog. So, as long as your card is linked in the Mr. Linky box by 2 PM Thursday, your card will be in the drawing. Be sure to link directly to the blog post or gallery image which features your card. You may post a picture of the sketch on your blog, but please save the image to your computer first. Use the keyword SSSC17 if you plan to post your card at SplitcoastStampers.

I've used this layout quite a bit lately and so it only seems fitting to use it for a sketch challenge. My sketch is for a standard A2 (4-1/4 x 5-1/2) card, but I trimmed my card down to a 4-1/4 square. I think this Riding Hood Red patterned paper from the Candy Lane pack is my absolute favorite right now, so I started my card around that and found the Basic Gray and Basic Black compliment Riding Hood Red so perfectly.

I was asked if I like my new photo tent, and the answer is a giant YES! It has made a huge difference in the brightness and crispness of my photos and it turns out to be a big time saver too. I don't have to take as many pictures because the first couple are always very clear. Blogger seems to distort the pictures when I upload them, so if you need to see it more clear, just click on the photo. AND, since I do most of my stamping late, late at night, I don't have to wait until daylight to get my posts ready. Anyway, just my 2 cents (or maybe 10) for you today...

Have fun with this one!
Karen

Mr. Linky is closed, but I would still like to see what you come up with - leave a comment with a link to your blog so I can take a peek. Come back Sunday for a new sketch!

recipe -
stamps: flight of the butterfly
ink: riding hood red, basic black
paper: basic gray, basic black, whisper white cardstock, candy lane dsp
accessories: vintage brads, riding hood red taffeta ribbon, stampin dimensionals

mother's day

I cannot believe Mother's Day is only 2 days away! Seems like time is just flying by and I can't keep up with it. I made this card for my sweet mother-in-law, it's just sweet and simple and it fits perfectly with her personality. I'm using SC227 for the layout and Dawn's Raspberry Suite Color Challenge for the colors. Now, the colors are dark gray, medium pink, bright pink, and white, but I had to add blue for the vase and green for the leaves. Is this cheating? I think it still works, but it's not really true to the challenge, though, huh? Might have to redo that one... I love this week's sketch though - so fun! I added some Crystal Effects to the water in the vase from Fresh Flowers, to give it a little shine and dimension. I colored the leaves and water with Copics and then I used my Pixie Pink marker for the flower petals. My pink supply of Copics is a little, uh, scarce.
I ordered a photo tent and I cannot believe the difference it made in my photo! If you are curious, I got this one. It completely collapses and all of it can be stored in a little bag about 6" x 9" - ish. Nice huh? This photo was taken with my old camera (it's a Koday Easy Share C875) and I'm going to try it with my new camera too, which is a Nikon Coolpix L100. I haven't had the best luck getting clear images up with that one yet - I'm still learning the settings on it.

That's it for today - I'm not sure I'll get anything made for tomorrow, but I'll definitely be back for Sunday's sketch challenge.

Karen

recipe -
stamps: fresh flowers (taylored expressions)
ink: memento tuxedo black, copics, pixie pink marker
paper: basic gray, regal rose, stampers select white (papertrey ink) cardstock
accessories: curvy rectangle & circle/scallop nestabilities (spellbinders), regal rose 5/8" grosgrain ribbon, mini twinkle dot (a.muse), crystal effects

sweet sunday sketch winner

Hi! Well I'm a day late posting our winner this week, I'm so sorry. My computer was having major problems all day yesterday and it wouldn't even start up, but my awesome hubby fixed it - sweet! Anyway - on to our winner for the week. Random.org picked #6, which is Karen W - congrats Karen! I love Karen's card with the 3 gorgeous flower pots and cute ribbon tied around the frame, fantastic job! Please stop by Karen's blog, Random Reflections, and check out her gorgeous work - she has some fun ideas there.

See you all back on Sunday for another Sweet Sunday Sketch -

mr & mrs

Hello! I managed to whip up a very quick card using Clean & Simple's FTL40 for the card layout. I really loved how simple this card was to make, yet it's such a stunning look! We've been super busy this past week and so I haven't had much time to create and it looks like this is a sign of things to come for our summer. Why does it get so busy!? This is our last week of soccer though, so that will be one activity off our list.

Ok, just a quick little post today - we're going back outside...

Karen

ink: staz-on black, soft sky, blue bayou
paper: basic black, whisper white cardstock, soft sky prints dsp

for my dad

When I saw the new set, Boys Will Be Boys for the first time, I was so excited to see a golfing image! I knew exactly what I wanted to make for Father's Day because my 2 brothers and my husband take my dad out for 18 holes every year. It's a tradition that has become something they all look forward to and I wanted to make him something fun for that event. My dad has always made his own boxes for his pens or for little items in his workshop - so how perfect would it be to make him a box? I know he'll truly apreciate it.

I found this note card box tutorial by fellow Baker's Dozen gal, Laurie Schmidlin, on SplitcoastStampers, which is the perfect size for a golf ball and tee. I added an insert to the box so I could hold the golf ball in place. I cut out a piece of Cosmo Cricut (Lil' Man) patterned paper from the Father's Day Key Ingredients measuring 5-3/8" square and then scored it at 1" on every side. I cut out a circle with my Nestabilities and then followed Laurie's directions for the lid cover. To keep the ball in place I added a glue dot on the bottom. I attached the golf tee to the ric rac with thread and added the little golf ball charm. I can't wait to give this to him! OH, the best part is the sentiment "Hope your day is par-fect" - my dad is always saying things like that; little funny puns. Sometimes they are huge eye-rollers, but he has some funny ones too and this set reminds me of his funny moments. I used my spots and dots embossing folder on the metal sheet and I absolutely love the look and embosses like buttah! You can get both the metal charm assortment and metal sheets exclusively in the Boys Will Be Boys bundle, so don't let that get away.

The Father's Day Key Ingredients is one of my favorite kits so far - I love all of the colors; red, orange, and blue - so perfect for the men and boys in my life. And a ton of yum-o-licious buttons! It coordinates perfectly with the Boys Will Be Boys stamp set and you will have so much fun putting projects together with them.
Now hop on over to see what the rest of the Baker's Dozen has for you today - Ana Wohlfahrt, Charmaine Ikach, Dawn Easton, Denise Marzec, Donna Baker, Jen del Muro, Jodi Collins, Karen Motz, Laura Fredrickson, Laurie Schmidlin, Sankari Wegman, and bonus eye candy from Jami Sibley, and Taylor VanBruggen.
Also, be sure to sign up for the Taylored Expressions newsletter and get more fun project ideas delivered right to your inbox. You can sign up on the Taylored Expressions homepage sidebar.

all hail the grill master

Welcome to sneak peek day 2! Today I'm giving you a little peek at the newest in the Leave A Lasting Impression collection called Boys Will Be Boys, along with the new Father's Day Key Ingredients kit. This new set is AMAZING! I think it's one of my absolute favorite masculine sets - so many fantastic images, perfect for the men/boys in our life. Both the Father's Day Key Ingredients kit and Boys Will Be Boys set will be available for purchase tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM Pacific Time!!
For this card, I'm using Taylor's TECC66 sketch and curved rectangle Nestabilities. A few fun things to point out - first is the metal sheets that will be available on Tuesday in this month's bundle (more details on that tomorrow). I ran the metal sheet through my cuttlebug using the D'Vine Swirls embossing folder and then attached it to my card using these fun little screw brads that come in the Father's Day KI - the look reminds me of those workshop cabinets. Next, I stamped the BBQ in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored in the legs and grill with my C1 Copic marker, then I stamped it again on black cardstock and paper-pieced the bowl of the BBQ. I did it! I made a masculine card! It's a very happy day, lol.
Now hop on over to see what the rest of the Baker's Dozen has whipped up for you today - Ana Wohlfahrt, Charmaine Ikach, Dawn Easton, Denise Marzec, Donna Baker, Jen del Muro, Jodi Collins, Karen Motz, Laura Fredrickson, Laurie Schmidlin, Sankari Wegman, and Taylor VanBruggen.

Thanks for stopping by!

sweet sunday sketch challenge #16

Good morning - It's time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge! Here is the deal: make a card with this layout and use Mr. Linky down at the end of my post to enter your card. On Thursday at 2 PM (Mountain Time), I'll randomly select one card to feature on my blog. So, as long as your card is linked in the Mr. Linky box by 2 PM Thursday, your card will be in the drawing. Be sure to link directly to the blog post or gallery image which features your card. You may post a picture of the sketch on your blog, but please save the image to your computer first. Use the keyword SSSC16 if you plan to post your card at SplitcoastStampers.

Let me just say that I am SO excited for today's post - not only is it the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge, but it is also day ONE of the Taylored Expressions sneak peeks! Today's featured set is Doctor's Orders - it is full of fun images for both young and "old" and has so many cute possibilities. I'm using this little check-up image today and I thought it would be cute to have Dr. Cuppie in some scrubs! I paper-pieced the cuppie wrappers with East Coast Prep paper and then colored in the images with Copic markers. I made the turquoise frame by running the two largest square nestabilities through the Cuttlebug. I turned it over and stamped on the back with the sentiment I wanted to use and then cut that section out. Then I could fit the sentiment in the blank space of the frame easily. The frame and white image panel are both popped up with dimensional tape. Don't forget to stop by the rest of the Baker's Dozen blogs to see what they have cooked up special for you today - Ana Wohlfahrt, Charmaine Ikach, Dawn Easton, Denise Marzec, Donna Baker, Jen del Muro, Jodi Collins, Karen Motz, Laura Fredrickson, Laurie Schmidlin, Sankari Wegman, and Taylor VanBruggen.

A thought about this week's sketch - I'm kicking it up a notch with the outside frame. I've seen this technique done with scrapbook pages and I absolutely adore the look of it. When you make your card or project, the frame around the main square doesn't necessarily need to be made from cardstock. Feel free to draw the frame or paper-pierce around it or any other creative idea you may have. The sentiment should be in the frame somewhere though.

Ok, now it's your turn - have fun!
Karen
