sweet sunday sketch challenge #15

Good morning - It's time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge! Here is the deal: make a card with this layout and use Mr. Linky down at the end of my post to enter your card. On Thursday at 2 PM (Mountain Time), I'll randomly select one card to feature on my blog. So, as long as your card is linked in the Mr. Linky box by 2 PM Thursday, your card will be in the drawing. Be sure to link directly to the blog post or gallery image which features your card. You may post a picture of the sketch on your blog, but please save the image to your computer first. Use the keyword SSSC15 if you plan to post your card at SplitcoastStampers.

Thank you all so much for your birthday wishes! I had a fantastic night out with my husband - we ate dinner at Hibachi Japanese Steakhouse and I thought someone was going to lose an eye. Yep, that's the mom in me - I just can't leave her behind, ha! It was amazing to see the chef flip all the food and utensils all over the place. Very fun and very stuffed by the end of dinner. Then I got to open my card and inside was our grocery money - I had to laugh at that. Basically he was telling me "lets go shopping". I've been wanting a new camera for SO long, so he took me to pick one out. Isn't he the best? Very nice birthday. Thanks love.

Ok, on to my card - I've been in a baby blue/navy blue mood lately and here once again is another blue card. I wanted to make something for Mother's Day to sell in my Etsy store for a while and I finally managed to finish one. I used my oval Nestabilities for this card (another new goodie for me) along with some of my favorite flower punches - use these ALL the time.

You may have noticed my new Sweet Sunday logo on my sketch and I've made a badge for you to put on your blog if you'd like. It's in my sidebar and you can get the HTML by clicking on "want this badge".

Ok, now it's your turn - have fun!!
Karen

paper: bashful blue, night of navy, whisper white cardstock, retired dsp
accessories: 5/16" brads, 6-petal flower punch (ek success), flower trio punch, oval/scallop nestabilities (spellbinders), stampin' dimensionals

Come back on Sunday for another sketch -

April 24, 2009

happy birthday

Yep, it's another birthday card - you know why? It's my birthday! Woo hoo! So why such a masculine looking card for MY birthday? That's just where the mojo took me this morning. My dad's birthday is coming up, so I'll give this one to him. I used Taylor's TECC65 for this card today, but left off the scallops. This little cuppie stamp is one of my favorite images from Sweet Celebration - I just love the look on that little cuppie on the bottom and the joy expressed in the one up top. Too cute!

Today Sarah-Jane Kale' and Beckie Carlson are celebrating their birthday too! I love sharing my birthday with such wonderful stamping friends!

Have a fantastic day - I'm off to tidy up before my big night out with my wonderful hubby.

Karen

recipe -
stamps: sweet celebration (taylored expressions)
ink: memento tuxedo black, copic markers
paper: bashful blue, bravo burgundy, choice buttercream (taylored expressions) cardstock, four seasons dsp
accessories: ice rhinestone brads, 5/16" brads, stampin' dimensionals.

And the winner is.... Trish Hughes! Trish made a darling card - full of warm summer colors and a very fun border punch I haven't seen yet. Love it! You can see more of Trish's beautiful cards at her blog, Hand Full of Stamps - she has a wonderful Father's Day card for you all to see today.

Thanks so much for playing this week - I'll be back with another sketch on Sunday.

birthday wishes

Happy Thursday! One day closer to Friday - sweet! You are not going to believe how long it took me to make this card... yes, it took me about 4 hours!! "Why", you ask? Well, see I got some new goodies and I *needed* to use them in this one card for some reason. I worked with them, tweaked the card here and there, stamped and cut out the butterfly in about 5 different colors... sigh. I do not like mojo days like that. I made it SO difficult! I love the result though, especially the stamped background, but my desk is a disaster and I need to clean it up so my mojo will come back.
Here are some of my new things I used in this card. Of course the butterfly is from that delightful Basic Grey set, Butterfly Bitsy stamps (I think this may have been retired because I've looked for it online and it is nowhere to be seen), I have some new Spellbinders - Curved Rectangles Mega Nestabilities and 5-1/2" Victorian Border Piercerabilities. SO much fun!

Thanks for stopping by today - see you back soon!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: butterfly (basicgrey), sincere salutations
ink: blue bayou, groovy guava
paper: soft sky, blue bayou, whisper white cardstock, blue bayou prints dsp
accessories: curved rectangles nestabilities & victorian border piercerabilities (spellbinders), 5/16" brads

you take the cake

Hi! Today I thought I'd try out this week's sketch challenge over at Splitcoast, and check it out, it's Wednesday and I'm posting it! I'm usually finishing sketches waaaay after they come out, so this is an exciting day. I love this little cupcake guy from Sweet Celebration, isn't he sweet? I framed him using the square nestabilities and scallop - these are really addicting, if you haven't been able to tell that from all my cards lately, haha!

I hope you are having a wonderful week!
Karen

ink: memento tuxedo black
paper: tempting turquoise, pumpkin pie, stampers select white cardstock, party pieces simply scrappin' kit
accessories: 5/16" brads, so saffron grosgrain ribbon, square/scallop nestabilities (spellbinders)

sketch set

I've seen some stampers put together a set of coordinating cards using weekly sketches from around blogland and today I thought I'd post mine. I made these at the midnight crop (yes, I should have been working on scrapbook pages, but I didn't have any photos ready, shame!). I am nearing the end of my Maine Blueberry paper pack and I think this is the first time I'll use the whole thing! It's so sad - bye sweet blueberries.... I'm also using Trendy Trees (sentiments) and Cheep Talk for my images.

My first card is from Taylor Van Bruggen's TECC64. There isn't an ounce of ribbon on it - what???!

My second card is from Lori Craig's WSC77 and it turns out this card is pretty much exactly like Dawn Easton's card HERE. I swear I didn't case her - we just think alike *wink*. It's very eerie we used the same exact sets on our cards.

My last card is from Verve, VSAPR3. I'm always finishing these late and can't enter the contest for free stamps. Bummer! Maybe one day...

I hope you enjoyed my tour of Blogland. I'll see you back soon!

Another fantastic round of cards! You all amaze me. This week Random.org picked #3, Emily Wundrock - congrats, Emily!! Stop on by her blog and check out her fabulous cards! I love this card she made for the challenge with the flowers popping up from the card. Beautiful!

Well, I'm off to create another sketch for Sunday. I was going to be out of town this weekend for a girl's weekend away, but half the state is going to be in a winter storm warning, so that may put the kabosh on our plans! I'll have the sketch ready just in case we go though *wink*

OH! I almost forgot to let you know that I've added some reverse watermarks for those of you who have requested something to put on light backgrounds or cards when the white watermark is difficult to see. I hope you like them.

Have a fabulous day!

brief watermark tutorial

I have added some instructions to the watermark post, so if you are wondering how to use a watermark hop on down 2 posts and check it out.

Whoa!!

You have all surprised me by your orders for the watermarks - this is fantastic! I'm working on finding instructions for those of you who don't have Photoshop and I need to be sure I can send you files that are compatible.

Some of you have had questions on how to use them, so I'm working on answering those as well as the instructions.

I'm just so blessed to have such amazing blog friends! I'll be back to post more later...

birthday boy

Hallelujah! I finally made a birthday boy card I love! This fantastic sketch comes from Laurie for this week's Weekend Sketch Challenge - isn't the sketch fabulous? It's very me - look at all that white space waiting to be ignored, ha! I've been seeing a lot of cards I love lately using Wild About You and I've been wanting to do something with it for a while. I stamped the lion in Pumpkin Pie two times and then cut out his little face to pop up. The mane was done by stamping the lion in So Saffron and then just dabbing the stamp in Pumpkin Pie again. It kind of gave it a stippled look. I couldn't figure out what to do with embellishments - where do I put the ribbon?! I just added the brads to add a little bit of focus towards the top of the card. Voila! The sentiment is stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

That's it for now - thanks for stopping by.
Karen

recipe -
stamps: wild about you, on your birthday
ink: versamark, pumpkin pie, so saffron
paper: bashful blue, brilliant blue, whisper white cardstock, jersey shore dsp
accessories: silver brads, white embossing powder, stampin' dimensionals

sweet sunday sketch challenge #13

Good morning - It's time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge! Here is the deal: make a card with this layout and use Mr. Linky down at the end of my post to enter your card. On Thursday at 2 PM (Mountain Time), I'll randomly select one card to feature on my blog. So, as long as your card is linked in the Mr. Linky box by 2 PM Thursday, your card will be in the drawing. Be sure to link directly to the blog post or gallery image which features your card. You may post a picture of the sketch on your blog, but please save the image to your computer first. Use the keyword SSSC13 if you plan to post your card at SplitcoastStampers.

Today I wanted to use Cheep Talk - seems like I haven't used this set in quite a while. The colors are from this week's color challenge over at SplitcoastStampers (so saffron, bashful blue, so saffron) and they work perfectly for a spring birthday card with the little birds. Nice! Is it weird the bird has blue legs? I needed to fill some empty space on the main image panel, so I used my flower trio punch and 1/4" circle punch to add a little something to the corner. Turns out it matches the button exactly, ha! I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the sentiment several times until it was dark and solid enough to show up on the blue patterned paper. The very light background stamp is actually the Petals jumbo wheel (oooh, for sale in my 'stamps for sale' button, haha!) stamped in Versamark ink.

Ok, now it's your turn! Have fun!!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: on your birthday, cheep talk
ink: close to cocoa, so saffron, bashful blue, versamark
paper: so saffron, close to cocoa, whisper white cardstock, darling dots dsp
accessories: latte buttons, flower trio & 1/4" circle punches, so saffron 5/8" grosgrain ribbon, vintage brads, scallop edge punch, linen thread, stampin' dimensionals
See you Sunday for another challenge!

birthday flowers

Hello and happy Friday! I had intended to make a Mother's Day card today, but it morphed into a birthday card. I had assembled the whole card and then realized I forgot to stamp the sentiment! So instead of tearing all the layers apart, I just changed plans and used a sentiment that would fit. Nice, huh? I'm using paper and ribbon from the Mother's Day Key Ingredients for this card along with Taylored Expressions newest stamp set, Fresh Flowers. I love, Love, LOVE this set!

Enjoy your day and I'll see you back soon.

Hello again - it's time to choose our winner this week. Random.org has chosen #10, Jen Sannes! Congrats Jen! Jen created a very sweet card and I love the paper-piercing and the sentiment in the word window punch. Very cute.

Thank you all so much for participating again this week. We'll see you again Sunday!

sharing in your sorrow

I'm typing today's post with an extremely heavy heart. My friend and upline, Beckie, lost her husband suddenly and unexpectedly this past Sunday. Beckie is one of those people who is always encouraging and supportive and looking out for everyone in her life. Beckie and Brad were best friends and have been together for 20 years and have 6 children. You can read more in her blog post here.

We are starting a Thank You card drive for Beckie so she can use those thank you notes to send out to all the friends and family who are helping her out in this time of need. If you would be interested in donating a blank thank you card and envelope, please email me for information. I'll be sending the donated cards April 30th.

Thank you all so much.

bringin' back cool caribbean, baby!

Kelly Jo emailed me and told me she was starting up a new color challenge and I just had to swing on over to her blog and check it out. I was blown away by the colors - they are stunning together! I used Whisper White, Cool Caribbean (yes, I have a TON of this paper left), and Certainly Celery. Aren't they gorgeous? I was having trouble finding my mojo, so I hopped over to Clean & Simple Stamping and found this card and I was inspired. To create the look of patterned paper, I stamped Pretty Petals in Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I really like the look it created against the Cool Caribbean - I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks Kelly Jo for a great challenge today.

Thanks for swinging by!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: on your birthday, pretty petals
ink: versamark, cool caribbean
paper: cool caribbean, certainly celery, stampers select white (papertrey, ink)
accessories: certainly celery 5/8" grosgrain ribbon, scallop edge punch, white embossing powder

pretty in pink

Wow, there is a whole lotta pink going on in this card, but it's cute! wow... I didn't realize how pink it was until I put it under my lamp to take a photo - haha! Today I used the Paper Pretties PWC42 as inspiration for this card and inked up this cute little cuppie from Sweet Celebration - isn't he fun? Or is it a "she" today? Yes, probably since she's decked out in pink from frosting to wrapper. heh.. I paper-pieced the cuppie wrapper and hat and then added some Micro Twinkle Dots to the scallops and some vanilla brads to the top. It's a sweet card - I like it despite all it's pinkish glory.

Have a wonderful day!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: sweet celebration (taylored expressions)
ink: memento rich cocoa, copic markers
paper: regal rose, very vanilla cardstock, candy lane dsp
accessories: micro twinkle dots (a.muse), 5/16" brads, rose grosgrain ribbon, scallop edge punch, oval nestabilities (spellbinders), stampin' dimensionals

bloomin' button

Well, I've discovered a new (well, new for me) sketch challenge offered every week over at Amy Rysavy's blog and I'm addicted, yet again! This week's sketch is so unique and I had to jump in. I used the Mother's Day Key Ingredients kit for this card - Yummo! I added the big brown button and the rub-on sentiment. For the flower, I covered a chipboard flower in Prism Island Mist Light cardstock and then embossed it with white embossing powder after stamping it in Versamark ink with my Polka Dot background. I love the way the white polka dots bring out the blue polka dots in the patterned paper. To finish up the sketch, I added 3 Kaisercraft clear rhinestones in the corner.

I hope you are having a great Monday - see you soon!
Karen

recipe -
stamps: polka dot background
ink: versamark
paper: mother's day key ingredients
accessories: kaisercraft clear rhinestones, pink grosgrain ribbon, buttons, white embossing powder, square nestabilities (spellbinders), scallop edge punch, card sayings rub-ons (making memories), stampin' dimensionals

Taylored Expressions Release Party!

Woo hoo! Today is THE day to find the new Stamp a Sweet Impression and Whimsical Wishes sets at Taylored Expressions - you will not want to miss out on these adorable sets! Downtown Diva and Fresh Flowers are THE perfect sets for Mother's Day, friendship, birthdays, I love you's... the list goes on and on! This post is jam packed with fun information, so be sure to read all the way to the bottom - you don't want to miss a thing. Today I'm using Downtown Diva along with this adorable scalloped purse favor box that I am using as a 3-D card of sorts. I'll start off with the card I created using the TECC62 sketch - so much fun! I just love this sentiment, "If friends were purses, I'd pick you!" - it's so stinkin' cute. I paper-pieced the purses using the same patterned paper from the card, which is from the Mother's Day Key Ingredients. This kit includes: Prism cardstock colors Island Mist Light, Blush Red Light, Blush Red Medium, Frosted Kiwi, Suede Brown Medium, Choice Buttercream. The patterned paper is from Crate Paper, Blue Hill Collection. There is also 5 yards of gorgeous ribbon, an assortment of shimmery flowers, and a package of Kaisercraft clear rhinestones. So perfect for Mother's Day! I am in love with this kit and I'm so happy I can start showing you projects with it now, yay! Don't forget to sign up for your monthly Key Ingredients kits, available in 3-month and 6-month subscriptions. Each kit can make approximately 16 cards - what a deal!
For the purse box I used 2 scalloped purse favor boxes - I cut the Blush Red Medium purse front off and ran it through the Cuttlebug with the D'Vine Swirls embossing folder. I added some Kaisercraft clear rhinestones inside the little curls and then glued it to the front of the Island Mist Light purse box. This creates the two tone look of it. I made another purse image medallion to place inside the box and then you can write a little note inside. Cute, no? So easy to make!

Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek - Day 2

Yes indeed! It's another sneak peek from Taylored Expressions and today I'm giving you a peek at Downtown Diva - isn't this little shop so sweet!? I know, that IS what it says right there on the building, ha! Downtown Diva is a very fun set and it's so versatile - I can't wait to show you more tomorrow, hee hee! I used Mojo Monday 80 for the layout of this card, but I had to flip the sketch so it would work with the image. I wanted the little shoppe to face toward the center of the card, not the outside. I colored the images with Copics and then added a little blue Twinkle Dot in the center of the flower.
Another announcement from the Taylored Expressions store for you: New Twinkles deal - Taylored Expressions will have two new tiny twinkle carousels available for you tomorrow! One carousel is all clear rhinestones in various sizes and the other is Multi-colored twinkles in various shapes (stars, hearts, flowers, teardrops, squares, etc.). When you purchase one of each of the new twinkles, you'll receive a multi-colored round twinkles carousel for FREE. Be sure to come back by tomorrow for more fun release day announcements!

Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek - Day 1

Taylored Expressions has done it again with another round of fabulous stamp sets and today I'm giving you a sneak peek of Fresh Flowers. This set is perfect for birthdays, thank you notes, love notes, and of course Mother's Day cards and that is what I'm showcasing today. This card is made with paper and ribbon included in the Mother's Day Key Ingredients Kit, available April 5th for purchase at Taylored Expressions. I absolutely love the patterned paper included with this kit - it is thick, textured, double-sided, and it's the Blue Hill collection from Crate Paper - De-Lish! I also included some rhinestones to the card to give it some bling (mother's like bling, right?).
Here's some exciting news! Taylored Expressions is having a JustRite inventory blow out -- JustRite is discontinuing all of their self-inking stampers! They are also discontinuing their Oval Stamper I Ensemble, Birthday Stamp Ensemble, and Oval Stamper I Blister Pack. Taylored Expressions is offering a 30% discount on these items as long as quantities last. Also, starting Sunday, my beloved Nestabilities from Spellbinders will also be in stock at Taylored Expressions! Woo hoo!

cupcakes forever!

Hi! I have a few brief moments to type up a blog post for you - I bought the kids one of those bouncy-ball-thing-a-ma-bobbers you sit on and bounce all over the place, you know what I'm talking about. So the kiddos are in the basement playroom bouncing around so I have some time up here on the computer until, a) they go crashing into the corner of the train table, b) the ball, for some random reason pops, followed by unearthly sobbing, or c) they decide they can't share anymore and everyone comes up here to tattle. C is my faaaavorite, of course. Ugh. Ok, anyway... I made another card using Taylor's TECC58 and used some cupcakes that came in a little set from the $1 bin at Michael's - woo hoo! Enabler alert - go get you some fun stamps for cheap!! My daughter and I went crazy picking out the sets we loved and then quickly went home to create some fun things. Uh-oh, I hear footsteps... nope, false alarm. :) Where was I... oh yes, I used papers and ribbon from the March Key Ingredients from Taylored Expressions (yum-o!) - don't forget to subscribe and get the kit delivered right to your doorstep each month!!

Since it's April Fools Day, I plan to make "fake" grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids for lunch today. It looks so real, but it's poundcake slices and frosting "cheese". Mmm! I found it in that amazing little magazine, Family Fun. Can't wait to trick them at lunch. Andrew will probably do his usual, "I don't like that" and miss out, haha! There is also a recipe for a fun fake fish stick and peas lunch too. I wish my mom made me eat cake and candy for lunch! Hey, don't judge - it's only once a year *wink*.

Alright, I better cut it short here - time is precious!! See you back soon!

Karen

recipe -
stamps: cupcakes from studio g, branching out (taylored expressions)
ink: memento rich cocoa, copic markers
paper: march key ingredients, stampers select white (papertrey, ink)
