A Slight Chalk obsession

A fad these days in the crafting world is to paint anything and everything with chalkboard paint,
this was a train I did not want to get on.
But having found the below framed pictures for a steal of a deal at a garage sale ($5 and $2) and seeing a super easy clipboard project I couldn't help myself.
They all got a couple coats of the popular black paint.

With the long skinny one I painted the frame a cheery yellow and ditressed it by sanding.
I wrote on a favorite Bible verse (Matthew 7:7) and hung it in our main living area.
I haven't finished the largest one yet, but you will see it when it is.

The clipboard is going to be our 'First Day of School' sign for years to come.
So cute....

Like I said before I have been doing projects just not posting them so this one was from way back in August before school started.
I really need to get my butt in gear, haha.

Happy Tuesday!

Making old new: Frame

I bought this frame at a garage sale two years ago for two bucks! It sat in waiting to be transformed. Well that day came a couple three-ish months ago. I spray painted the outside a pretty blue and the inside trim silver. I then added three lengths of wire to hang pictures from. But it has hung on the wall without anything ever since. You may have caught a glimpse of it at T's party way back in June!

Well I finally found the perfect little clothespins at Micheals and printed off some of my Instagram pictures.
I love it and I am kicking myself for not filling it sooner.

My living room corner is now almost complete!
Other projects pictured: Scrabble Decor, Side Table, Pray More Canvas.

Making Old New: Side table

I bought a side table (for $10) and a coffee table (which was $9) at a garage sale, both with the intention of revamping. I had originally decided to paint the side table white, but ended up being a little more adventurous and finalized with a cheerful salmon/coral color. I think it's fantastic and hubby likes it too, so that's an added bonus.

I'm still deciding what to do with the coffee table, but you'll see it when it's done.
Happy Thursday!

Making old, new: Dresser

Another garage sale find. I just love turning someone else's junk into my treasures.
I got this dresser for $14.
I added a couple coats of coral/salmon paint, distressed with sandpaper, and added some snazzy new hardware.

Not to shabby eh?
This bright piece has found a home in my new craft room.

 The bummer.... it smells.
I thought the paint would disguise it but the inside of the drawers are plastic and still smell from the old owners when opened. Truth be told, nothing is being stored in it right now. Any one able to help solve this problem?
I'm thinking baking soda...

Happy Tuesday!

Making old, new: nightstand #2

I bought the above nightstand at a garage sale last summer for $1...
you heard me, ONE dollar! Yup, amazing deal.
Of course the forest green wasn't my favorite and it was a little beat up, but I was willing to give it a little tlc.
(It just took awhile to get around to it, good thing I had the move as motivation)

I had also bought the stool below at another garage sale (for $2) and decided to redo it at the same time.

I decided to paint both of them a nice robins egg blue.

After painting, I distressed the nightstand slightly with some sandpaper.

I was planning on replacing the hardware but when I took it off I realized it was covering a couple of holes, so I decided to stick with the same handle.
It actually has grown on me and I like it now, especially with the new color.

Both the nightstand and the stool have made their way into S's new room.
She really likes having a place to set her water and books at night as well as the help to get up on her bed.

On a sidenote: The quilt on her new bed was made by me.
But not recently, I actually made that in Highschool for home ec. class, neat huh?
Glad to be able to use it in my little girls room.

Happy Tuesday!

Love me a good Kerr Jar

I am naturally drawn to the Kerr jar.
Funny enough when you are on the lookout for something it is usually hard to find.
As for purchasing them at a store my mom was able to buy me a couple at Micheals but they were quite pricey. However, recently I have totally lucked out! I was able to get a few at Value Village (small ones for .25 cents each and large ones for .50 cents) as well as a couple from a garage sale facebook page. I was so happy.

I've been able to use a couple around the house holding things such as sharpies and my makeup brushes.

I have three of them around my kitchen and living room  filled with coffee beans and a tealight.

And I was finally able to do this DIY where you make your own soap dispenser!

A couple of them had Kerr written into the metal of the lid. I'm still trying to think what I could use these for. I think it's pretty neat.

Do you have any favorite jar DIY's if so, share them with me. I still have a couple left waiting to be used.

Happy Monday!

Splash of Salmon

Well I've started with my new year motto of 'embrace color'... a bright salmon hanging for the wall.
Check out the before and after below.

I got the hanging at a garage sale for $2. I definitely had the idea to re-vamp it!
I took the rope off, painted two coats of the salmon color and used carbon paper to trace the letters on which I then painted white. A little bit of sand paper work to distress it a bit and it's a whole new sign.

I am glad I have this pop of color on the mantel and I am looking forward to hanging it in our new house.
The only thing that bugs me now is the grammar...err, I realized after all the painting of the words that both 'everyday's should have been 'every day'. Two seperate words!!! Oh well I guess you can't win em all!
Happy Friday!
