Princess and the Frog Birthday Party

My big girl turned 4 last week! She starts preschool next week and my heart is feeling a wee bit heavy with the thought of her growing up so fast.
I'll stop right there as I will most likely become a blubbering mess.
On with the party....

This year S requested a princess party. I was all over that seeing as last year we went with more of a 'boy' theme of a Pir-ette Party.
As there were going to be boys still attending this princess party I wanted to incorporate a part for them (something different than just a prince or a knight) so a Frog was the perfect solution not to mention cute and fun to decorate with.
Have a look at S's,

Princess and the Frog Birthday Party
(not the Disney version, more of The Frog Prince classic)

We had 15 kids (2 are missing from this pic) and 7 adults....that's what I call a party!

Take home treats: little frogs, gummy frogs, and a necklace. As well they got to take home their crafts.

It was such a great party! She had so much fun!

Some details, inspiration and links:

- Invitiations inspired by a pin I didn't pin and now can't find (err).
- Plastic table cloth folded to become table skirt, tutorial at That's my Letter.
- Crowns for curtain ties, idea from Bubbly Nature Creations.
- Beads hanging from chandelier inspired by this pin from The Party Press.
- Glitter Crowns and Frog foam stickers (on invites) from Walmart.
- Foam Crowns, stick-on Jewels (used to decorate crowns and on utensils), Fake lilies and reeds, Foam Bears(frogs), Googly eyes and 'tongues' from Dollarama.
- I painted some Kerr jars gold with Krylon metalic spray paint.
- I made crowns for various frogs from an old Christmas glitter bow, which I cut apart and hot glued.
- Tissue pompoms tutorial from Martha Stewart Crafts.
- Birthday banner I made for a previous party.
- I made soup for lunch as well as various snacks and treats. Including jello-jigglers in shape of lips and chocolate covered oreos.
- For activities the kids decorated crowns, made frogs with stick out tongues and I read them the story 'Kiss the Frog'. We had a lot of fun!

Bear Broken

This little guy is my very first teddy bear, given to me from my moms cousin when I was born. Just ignore the burnt spot for now, we'll get to that. He has always been very special and has had a spot in my bedroom forever (and nope I don't sleep with him, he just sits on a shelf).

A couple of years back -notice the water mark?- I was in the living room with baby T and S (who was 2) was in my room watching cartoons. I sniffed an odd smell and went to check on her.
I found this:

Don't worry this is a reenactment. She had turned the lamp on and to top it off S had almost emptied the kleenex box beside it. So we were very lucky that just the bear ended up getting burnt, not the whole house!
(I know 'Mother of the Year' right?!)
Anyways S was very sad and sorry that she had done this to mommy's special bear.

She is just so cute and little, had to share this little video clip.

Well poor guy ended up sitting in my craft room in a box marked 'To Do' ever since.
His lucky day arrived last week, I finally found a piece of fabric that would suffice as a patch!

There all better!
And S was thrilled! She totally remembers the incident and was so happy to see him all fixed up.

He once again is happily sitting in my room.
Sidenote: T just turned 2, so now I have her to look out for... and she is a whole lot more crazier! Wish me luck!

Happy Tuesday!

welcome to our home: S's room

Number two in my home tour series, S's room or what I call the BIG big girl room.
I did end up getting her a new bedspread (bought it at my favorite store, Homesense). I just love how it adds so much color to the space. Even so I plan on painting the wall that the bed is on.
Anyways this is it for now, have a look!

Recognize the curtains? from here.

The closet is one of my favorite parts!

The left hand side is a display for all the dress up clothes.
As well the two bins are filled with accessories, shoes, hats etc.

The right hand side I made into a cozy reading nook.
Complete with a large body pillow, cushions and a push light. I decorated with tinker bell decals just to make the space more fun. And S loves it!

More on the large painting here
Rainbow heart art here
Nightstand and stool redo here.

You can check out her old bedroom from the last house here and here.
(I still miss those bright blue walls and the owl decals)

Happy Thursday!

A little 'Tangled': Rapunzel Wig and Costume

So it all started with a purple dress and a 3 year olds obsession with Rapunzel. I was planning on S being a princess and wear the dress (that I had got at a garage sale). But when I saw  This Mama Makes Stuff's  tutorial for a fabulous yarn Rapunzel wig(and Rapunzels dress is purple) I needed to do it! Of course I asked S if she would be willing to wear Rapunzel hair before going to all the work of making it, and she was totally excited about it!
I LOVE how it turned out, it is soooo stinkin' cuh-ute!

I made the actual wig awhile ago and then kept it hidden until recently. I had to bring it out to do the braid while she was wearing it. She loved it! So it has been hard to keep from her ever since. (I don't want a ruined costume before halloween!) After braiding I attached the flowers, which definitely added the finishing touch.

S will be carrying the frying pan while trick or treating, and holding it out to collect her candy.
(Of course daddy will have a big bag to collect the loot and carry for her)

I was planning on T being Pascal, hubby being Flynn Rider (he is known as Eugene around here, I'm pretty sure S doesn't even know he is called Flynn, haha) and myself being Mother Gothel.
BUT...
I have a lion costume that S wore two years ago that I just can't pass up. It is too adorable not to use again on T , who fits it perfectly. I also figured for trick or treating I didn't need to spend the money decking the whole family out in coordinating costumes.
BUT...
We have recently found out that we will be going to a halloween family dance on Saturday. So I might bust my butt and make the costumes for me and hubby...poor T will be the odd Lion out... possibly.

*Update: Check out Mother Gothel and Flynn Rider Here!
