Easter Dress: Mine

I decided to make myself an Easter dress this year as well as the girls

I had this old maternity dress sitting in my closet. A hand-me-down from a friend, I had never worn it with either pregnancy ( not really flattering, more frumpy then anything), so I decided to cut it up!

I cut off the sleeves and added pleats around the whole thing (I never measured because I intend it to be worn with a belt). I then used the sleeve material to cut long oval'ish' shapes which I folded in half and pinned into place on one shoulder.

I didn't do any hemming since it was t-shirt material so that was the extent of my altering. Here is the finished product:

Like I said in this post, I don't really enjoy self fashion-portraits and I forgot to get someone to take one of me in the dress on Easter (silly me).
Anyways here is the before and after:

I also had enough fabric leftover to make two of these headbands:

Cute huh? I mean the headband, but my baby is pretty cute too!

Easter Dress: The Girls

I finished the Hunger Games (I am having withdrawals all ready), so I decided I better get back to taking care of the blog, first up the girls Easter dresses.

I decided that instead of making the girls Christmas dresses every year I would try and make them their Easter dresses. Which let's face it, Easter is a lot less hectic than Christmas so I should have time to finish two dresses.

This year I found the fabric first, on sale for $3 a meter (both the blue and the rose pattern) in the clearance section at Fabricland. I then went searching for a tutorial that would work well with the fabric I chose. I decided on the Ella Dress Tutorial from Living with Punks. It comes with a pattern piece for a size 2T which I used for S's dress and then sized it down for T's. Both ended up being a little too small so I added the button holes on the back.

They aren't perfect and I had to wing it a few times since I added a liner and the button holes, but I'm happy with how they turned out.

During the Easter festivities I never did get a shot of the two of them sitting nicely together. Oh well, these will have to do.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Peter Cottontail and a couple friends

I decided to make the kids some home made bunnies this year for in their Easter baskets (one each for my girlies and one for my nephew). I just drew out a simple bunny shape on paper and used it as my pattern. Sewed on buttons for the noses and eyes stuck a pompom on for the tails and stitched some whiskers.

They didn't turn out quite the way I wanted....
kinda ugly-cute rather then cute-cute, haha!
oh well, I'm sure the kids will enjoy them!
I'm going to be at my parents place for the next week or so, but I do have some scheduled posts coming your way! Have a super weekend!!

Easter Mantel

Our fireplace is located in the middle of our living room so I have two mantels to decorate. I always have one side decorated in holiday or seasonal items.
Right now it is decked out in bright spring colors for Easter!

When I saw this Bible verse printable offered at One Dog Woof I knew I needed to include it in my decor. I also found this adorable little girl printable from le papier studio and thought it would be like my girlies ages next year.

I also had to incorporate some of my handmade projects.
My most recent being the little birdhouse and then two projects that I had done last year, the Spring Frame and the Easter Pennant Banner.
The birds nest with eggs and the two little bunnies came from Dollarama.

I also included this little bear (dressed up as a bunny) that was given to me from my parents one Easter, way back when... I actually collected these bears, Cherished Teddies.

I have two more projects related to Easter that I'm working on but I'm not sure if I'll have them posted by next week. We'll see if I actually finish them in time, haha.

A Little Birdhouse

The other day I went to Dollarama looking for treats to include in the girls Easter baskets. I stumbled upon this cute little raw wood birdhouse and I knew it would fit perfectly with the Easter decor on my mantel. All it needed was a little bit of paint!

I think it turned out so cute! It took me awhile to decide on the colors and I am happy with what I came up with. I wanted to incorporate pink so I pulled out my bakers twine (in cotton candy) and wrapped it around the house.

Do you recognize my Easter table runner?
It is on my kitchen table as we speak, it's just so cheery.

You will be able to see the birdhouse in it's spot on my mantel this Thursday.

P.S. I also found these awesome fabric flower ponytails at the dollar store, a 3 pack for $1.25....I could not say no to that! Now I have all these pretties:

Birthday and Easter Highlights

My birthday was last week and I had a great day! My parents and my sister's family were visiting for the weekend so that made it even more special. The Highlights: -we went for a nice spring walk. -my dad took us all out for supper that evening. -we watched the movie Tangled -I recieved a sweet card from my husband.

On Sunday we celebrated Easter together as a family. The Highlights: - S's first Easter egg hunt (she loved it!). -going to church and having both my family and my husbands family there. - cooking the Easter meal with my mom and sister.

Of course my girlie wore the Easter dress** that I had made her. As promised, below are a couple of pictures with her modeling it!

Isn't she so dang cute?
I hope you and your family had a blessed Easter weekend as well!

**I forgot to mention that I got the tutorial for the Easter dress from the Moda Bakeshop blog. Just in case you want to make your own!

Easter Project #3 - Table Runner

Here is my last Easter Project to share with you, a simple table runner. I wanted to dress up my table a little bit this year since I am hosting my family for Easter. (I plan on doing a post about my Birthday and Easter highlights after this busy weekend is over) This was a fun and super quick project to do, I'm so glad I squeezed it in! The cute little froggy adds to the look as well as the beautiful Lily(a house warming present from my husbands sweet grandma).

I hope you all enjoy Easter Sunday tomorrow and don't forget the reason for the season!
Rejoice for HE is Risen!!

Easter Project #2 - Decorative Banner

I just love the new Close to my Heart Pendant banner and when I first saw it I knew I wanted to do one for spring/easter. I used the Twitterpated paper pack (which is advertised as a 'fall' paper pack but I thought it worked perfect for Easter!). I made all the paper flowers and used twitterpated chipboard buttons for the center. This was one of my first attempts at such flowers and I love how they turned out, you may be seeing more in the future! I lined all the tops with Pearl opaques and tied them all together with sweet leaf ribbon. I also added a length of chocolate ribbon on each end so that it would tie easily to the railing. Another project checked off of my list!

So as it is technically the 22nd (by an hour or so), I can officially say Happy Good Friday, Happy Earth Day, and Happy Justine Day! Yup today is my birthday (a post to follow in a few hours as I need to get some sleep). My Birthday of course is Earth day every year but it has never coincided with Good Friday (or anywhere near Easter for that matter, always after the fact) So I am really looking forward to it! Hope it's a gooder not only for me but you too!
