Shrinky Dink Jewelery

S got a shrinky dink jewelery kit for her birthday and when T was napping we pulled it out for a nice quiet time activity.
She loved doodling out pictures and so did I. She also loved watching them curl up in the oven. We made enough charms for a bracelet and two necklaces. Here's her bracelet:

I requested she draw one especially for me to put on a necklace. She drew a sun, and I love it.
What a great keepsake!

...and the little stinker wouldn't let me get a pic of her with her jewelery, err. She was too busy looking at it, haha.

As for my own crafting, I've been wanting to share with you my latest embroidery project. I finally got around to making myself a monogrammed cushion for our master bedroom. Complete with our year of establishment!

S is off to her first day of Preschool later this morning, eek! She is so excited!
Happy Tuesday!

Rosette Necklaces

Before we moved I had mentioned via instapics that I had started making fabric rosette necklaces.
Since then I have had a couple of orders from some friends and I'm hoping to sell them at upcoming craft sales. Along with the other jewelery you may have seen on my facebook page and other projects.
I am also throwing around the idea of starting an Etsy page. (Should I??)
Anyways since I never actually wrote a post about them, I thought I better!

I plan to do more pattern flowers like the one on the far right which will be more unique but still keep the solid color collection available as well.

I've also started making three rosette cluster necklaces.

Which one would you pick?
Happy Tuesday!

Alternative to the Owl

I needed a quick project to do the other day, so I whipped up another Iphone case.
It is nice to have an alternate to switch it up a bit, although I do still love my Owl Case!

I'm really liking the pattern. The stitching isn't perfect...fine with me, it adds character!
And I'm loving the color combination.

Happy Friday!
P.S. Can you believe it's already September tomorrow? ...crazy.

Scrappy bracelets

Out of the leftovers from one of my t's to tanks I decided to make a couple of bracelets.  I just loved the shade of pink and I thought I can make something out of even the smallest of scraps, right?
For one bracelet I used the serged edge scraps and just simply braided them. I finished that bracelet off with a loop and two straps held together with a wooden bead, which you slide to make the bracelet bigger or smaller.
For the second bracelet I followed this weaving technique, but it looks slightly different because I had to knot small strips together (hence the knots along the bracelet). I don't mind the look, it's slightly rugged and distressed because of it.

Hope you have a great weekend!!

Hair Pretties

The other day during naptime it was raining so I decided to whip up a few hair pretties for the girlies. I started out by using some of the fabric rosettes from T's birthday wreath and glued them onto hair pins and clips. I also raided my ribbon stash and made some bows. I'm definitely planning on making more since I have way too much ribbon that isn't being used and they are so quick and easy to make...
and of course they look so darn cute!

Easy Bracelet Tutorial

When I was at my mom and dad's over Easter, I couldn't help but bring a couple of craft supplies to do a small project. I ended up grabbing some beads and cord. Using this pin as inspiration I thought these bracelets would be a cinch to whip up.

The braiding cord (that's what the package called it. I had wanted to use hemp but that stuff was too pricey for El Cheapo over here!) had three different colors in the package so I made a couple of brown, black, and natural.
I think they are uber cute and could be worn with a formal or casual outfit.

Want to make your own? Here's a quick How to:

It's as simple as putting on beads and tieing a knot, I found the size that fit me best was four sections (pic four). I didn't measure the sections, just eyeballed it. At the end throw on one single bead tie another knot (pic five) and that will go through the starting loop as your clasp. Isn't that easy and quick?
These would make great little gifts, Mothers Day is coming up!

With this tutorial and the one I shared on Tuesday you think I would have done a series like 'Jewelery week' or something. Ha.

A Closer Look: Pearl and Ribbon Necklace

I have made quite a few...
... I told you guy that I found the tutorial to make one at The Crafty Blog Stalker.
But I have recieved a couple emails asking for some clarification on the instructions
... so I thought I would do an explanatory tutorial to add to the original.

Here is a closer look at the pearl and ribbon how-to:

The Beginning:

one - knot your ribbon pieces together a few inches down (I trimmed down one) and stick your needle through the knot making sure the end of your thread has a knot on it.

two - put on first bead.

three - put needle through one ribbon as shown.

four - add another bead.

five - put needle through the other ribbon as shown.

six - at this point this is what you should have.

The Tricky Part:

seven - after step six twist your top ribbon slightly as shown.

eight - add another bead.

nine - put your needle through the first thread, high enough up that it will sit on top of the last bead (this is kind of a guessing game as you go along).

ten - add another bead.

eleven - take the bottom ribbon and repeat step nine, your ribbon should always look like this before putting on another bead.

twleve - add another bead. Repeat steps nine and ten alternating ribbons as you go until you reach your desired length.

Hopefully that was helpful, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Fabric Flower Headbands

I had some fabric scraps left over from some recent projects so I decided to whip up some flowers and put them on headbands.

The first flower was made from scraps from the make-up bags. I just did a gathering stitch on the one long edge and pulled it together, leaving the other edge raw. Sewed a button in the center and I had a completed flower.

This one was made to fit my lil girl....although she hasn't worn it yet... I have to be really good at convincing her that a princess would wear it.

The second I made from the T-shirt scraps from the five strand headband. Using this tutorial to make the actual flower.

It turned out bigger than I had planned but I like the splash of color it gives to my outfit.
