My Camera-Shy Self Portrait
On the first day of every month the City Daily Photo Community comes together publishing photos from around the world with their interpretation of a chosen theme. Your Camera-Shy Self Portrait is the theme for April 1st.
I took this reflective shot in the window of the Cotton Bale public house when it was closed for refurbishment a few weeks ago.

ABC Wednesday: K is for Knott Lane
Knott Lane is ancient route connecting Gee Cross with Knott Fold.
In modern times the Cheetham Fold estate has been built around it, including The Apethorn public house.
Despite being a popular local pub and a music venue, it was closed in January 2015 by its then owners, Enterprise Inns, and has been sold over the head of the pub manager.
See how it looked in 2009 on Hyde Daily Photo Vol.1.
View it from the opposite direction on Hyde Xtra.

Weekend reflections in the Cotton Bale
On Thursday I posted a photograph of the Cotton Bale on Hyde DP Xtra and a close-up of the Pub sign here.
The J D Wetherspoons pub on the corner of John Street and Market Place is currently closed for refurbishment, so it was ideal opportunity to catch a reflection of the street in its window.

Weekend Reflections: How Is Your Glass?
Going through my archives I came across this photograph from August 2009.
I saw this half-pint beer glass standing on a window-sill at the side of the Bike 'n' Hound public house late one Saturday morning. It had probably been there since Friday night.

Greenalls Est. 1762
As a follow-up to the earlier post featuring the Shepherds Call, here is a close-up of the brewery sign on the front of the pub.

Shepherds Call
A Greenall's pub on the corner of Market Street and Tower Street. There are just over 30 public houses in the Hyde area (including Gee Cross, Newton &c) which is about a fifth of the number there were around a century ago.
There was a rumour recently that the Sheps was going to close, but landlord Eddie Collier was quick to squash the rumour on Facebook.

Traffic Warden on duty
Traffic warden doing her job outside the Jolly Carter.
As I've remarked before too many people park and block the dropped crossing - not quite the case here - but she's keeping her eye out for transgressors.

The former Packhorse Inn
The Pack Horse Inn at Mottram in Longdendale was a stopping place for pack horse trains on the saltway from Cheshire through to Yorkshire.
I first showed you the Packhorse Inn and its sign back in July 2008.
Having being closed for more than year, owners Enterprise Inns, based in Solihull, were granted planning permission in 2013 to convert it into a single house. The conversion appears to be still unfinished.

ABC Wednesday: O is for Open All Day
"Open All Day" says the signage on The Albion at the top of John Street. The Cotton Bale (a Wetherspoons pub) opposite opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast and has tables outside on the street in what is signed as "No Smoking" area.

Sign of the Crown and Cushion
The sign of the Crown and Cushion on Victoria Street, Newton.
I understand the name relates to the Coronation ceremony where the crown lies on a cushion before being placed on the head of the new monarch.

What's on at The Sportsman
A board at the Cheapside corner of the Sportsman advertises the goings on at the pub. On the left, cut into the corner is an Ordnance Survey cut benchmark.
For a wider view of the pub and a closer view of the benchmark with information about the use of benchmarks see Hyde DP Xtra.

No more Cheshire Cheese in Broadbottom
The former Thwaites brewery pub, the Cheshire Cheese in Broadbottom joins the list of hostelries closed and shuttered up.
See how it looked four years ago on Geograph.
The bus on the right was waiting to pick up a group of school children who had been exploring the nearby Lymefield Visitor Centre.

Village Nursery
Due to open soon is the Village Nursery and Pre-School.
A year ago this building was the Lamb Inn.
A lot of pubs have been converted into new uses but this is the first I know that's become a nursery.
