And a plane flies by

Behind the rear of the library building in Hyde as featured in last Tuesday's post, a Manchester bound plane flies by as a flue-pipe releases a plume of smoke or hot air up into the clouds.

Skywatch Friday: Newton Library err sorry Pharmacy

Today's photograph was taken less than a minute after the one I posted last week: Contrails over Talbot Road.

This is the view in the opposite direction over what used to be Newton Library but is now Newton Pharmacy.

If you look closely at last week's photo you'll see an aeroplane coming in on the left en route for Manchester Airport. Here it can be seen in the centre of the sky heading on its way with a couple of birds flying off on the left.

Contrails over Talbot Road, Newton

On a bright sunny winter morning there appears to be more traffic in the sky than on the road.

Flying over the sun

As the sun sinks behind the Shell filling station on Dowson Road, an aeroplane flies over under a fading vapour trail.

ABC Wednesday: A is for A7-AEE

I spotted this Qatar Airlines A7-AEE shortly after noon on 28th December.

According to Flight Aware it was flying from Beijing to Doha.

However flightradar24.com identifies it as flight QTR24 from Doha to Manchester.

An Aerial View

On 11th July 2013 Mike Richardson was on an EasyJet flight from Edinburgh to Luton and whilst over Stockport took a photograph across Audenshaw reservoirs and beyond. The original photograph can be seen on Geograph.

I've cropped and enhanced the portion that highlights Hyde.

Godley reservoir stands out below the M67 (sweeping towards the roundabout at Hattersley and the new Tesco) and above the Manchester to Glossop railway line. Also prominent is the route of the former Godley Junction to Apethorn Railway Line, now TransPennine Trail and National Cycle Network 62.

Easily recognised are Ewen Fields (Hyde FC ground) and Garden Street recreation ground. Others will doubtless pick out other areas.

Skywatch Friday: Contrails at sunrise

One morning last week, just as the sun was rising, there were dozens of vapour trails criss-crossing the morning sky.

By the time I'd had breakfast they'd mostly disappeared.

There is another view of them on Hyde DP Xtra.

Emirates plane over Foxholes on Christmas Day

I was walking down the Trans Pennine Trail shortly after midday on Christmas Day when this Emirates airline plane bound for Manchester flew over Foxholes.

There is a better view of the tree on Hyde DP Xtra.

A plane over Dowson Road

Planes regularly fly over the rooftops of Dowson Road.

Many of them are getting ready to land at Manchester Airport but this one is heading towards the North and gaining height so is probably on an outgoing flight.
