Wetherspoon do a great job of converting old buildings into pubs, generally retaining a lot of the old character too. They have done a fantastic job on an old cinema here in Llandudno.
Commentators on the Facebook group Hyde Memories have informed us that prior to being the "Cotton Bale" it was a gift shop emporium known as "Gratis". In earlier times - on the corner was "Elizabeth Ann's" dress shop with "Babyland" and a hairdressers on Market Place. What is now "SpecSavers" next door was then the DER television shop.
What was the origional name of the pub?
ReplyDeleteI don't think this was a pub originally. I believe it was a gift shop and after it closed down Wetherspoons bought it and converted it into a pub.
