Neon Font Effect Photoshop Actions

Recently I followed a cool screencast tutorial on Abduzeedo.com : Super Easy Neon Style in Photoshop and gave a quick try.

The final result is beautiful and I like the possibility in adjusting colors before and after you hit the play button on Photoshop Actions panel. Actually it was a very easy tutorial, which I am sure everyone can easily follow just like I did. But with the series of settings on the tutorial, which you may miss them in some points to produce the neon font effect make me think to create a set of Photoshop Actions. I made 3 variants after I played a bit with the settings from that tutorial and now you can download it for free.

Photo to Painting Photoshop Action

Hello everyone!
Recently I read a quick and clever tutorial, which is: How To Turn Any Photo Into a Realistic Painting Using Standard Photoshop Filters (written by Mickel of Pixel Tango).

I really like the result and I tried to create a Photoshop Action based on that tutorial. In a few minutes later, I got lots of photos with this amazing effect and I think it would be great idea to share it with you. Note that perhaps you may not always like the effect. For that, I suggest you to duplicate your photo layer for back up and make adjustment to its brightness or contrast before you hit the action button.

Since the beginning of the 90's, Lomographic community worldwide produce a flood of authentic, colourful, crazy, off-the-wall, unfamiliar snapshots with a small Lomo LC-A camera. Lomography emphasizes casual, snapshot photography. Characteristics such as over-saturated colors, off-kilter exposure, blurring, "happy accidents," and alternative film processing are often considered part of the "Lomographic Technique."

Pencil Sketch Effect in Photoshop Action

This morning I surfed down the net to find pencil sketch effect tutorials. There are obviously lots of different techniques to produce this kind of effect into a photo. I followed several tuts, to compare the results and I felt like I needed to find the very quick one, yet it should have great result too. So, I came across this (relatively old) tutorial post at Jeff Flowers's.com. Written by Jeff Flowers himself :). He wrote a smart tutorial which is very easy to follow about "How To Turn A Photo Into A Sketch".

I decided to create a set of photoshop action based on this step by step tutorial. In Step 3, Jeff Flowers set the radius blur into 6px (Filter » Blur » Gaussian Blur), but in this photoshop action, I set it into 15px. Jeff has also noted that: this all depends on your image.

Even you will have instant graphic effect using this photoshop action set in a blink of an eye, I think you would still need to understand how this effect is produced. Because your image contrast will take part on delivering a great result of pencil sketch effect. Sometimes you will have to create this graphic effect from scratch, instead of using automatic photoshop action.

I will start with my first Photoshop tutorial, ok it's not really a tutorial just some tips, general things that I found to be very useful when working in Photoshop. Even if you are an expert I think you will find some of this stuff usefull:

• Right after you installed Photoshop onto your computer, go to Edit > Preferences > General (Ctrl+K shortcut) and start customizing the program according to your needs. For example I always choose Zoom with Scroll Wheel from the General (Ctrl+1) section then I go to the Plug-Ins & Scratch Disks (Ctrl+7) section where I will choose my first and second Scratch Disk; usually I will not choose the first Scratch Disk to be the one that has the system (I use Windows) installed on. Then I will go to the Memory & Image Cache (Ctrl+8) section where I will set the Cache Levels to 8 (maximum possible) and the RAM to 55-65% to be Maximum Used by Photoshop (remember that changes will take effect the next time you start Photoshop).
  
  
• An easier way to switch between the different hidden tools is to use the keyboard shortcut along with the Shift key.
  
  
• Pressing the Alt key when you are using the Polygonal Lasso Tool will allow you use the Lasso Tool and inverse; you can combine these two in order to make a better and efficient selection. I reccomand the use of the Polygonal Lasso Tool (combined with a 300-400% zoom) when you are making a complicated selection (like when you are trying to extract an object from it's background).
  
  
• Pressing the Alt key when you are using the Dodge Tool will allow you to use the Burn tool and inverse.
  
  
• Pressing the Alt key when you are using the Blur Tool will allow you to use the Sharpen tool and inverse.
  
  
• Pressing the Alt key when you click with the Text Tool will bring you a dialog box where you will be able to choose the Paragraph text size.
  
  
• Pressing the Space key at any time will let you use the Hand Tool. Pressing the Space key combined with Ctrl key at any time will let you use the Zoom Tool (the zoom in option, for the zoom out option also use the Alt key, so it's Ctrl+Alt+Space for zoom out).
  
  
• Pressing the Alt key when you are using the Move Tool will allow you to duplicate a layer or a selected portion from a layer (if you have a selection made)
  
  
• Pressing the Alt key when you are using the Ellipse Tool, Rectangle Tool, Rounded Rectangle Tool or Custom Shape Tool to draw the shape from the centre.
  
  
• Pressing the Space key when you are using one of the marquee tools or shape tools will allow you to move the selection or the shape while you are drawing it.

How to Create Water Droplets in Photoshop

It’s been quite a while since my last Photoshop Tutorial guys :), anyway I spent my long holiday to write another tutorial, which is how to create water droplets in Photoshop.

I also included the photoshop action to create this water droplets effect, and there are two kinds of action for creating: bigger water droplets and the smaller one.

This tutorial is very easy for photoshop beginners, but actually there are also another ways of technique to create water droplets using Photoshop. The problem is sometime the water droplets won’t appear to be natural or realistic on the first attempt of applying some filter effect. Filter effects are would likely produce uniform artificially look of water droplets on an object surface. Therefore, as usual...you need to do the retouch to finish this effect.
