SWACgirl shares photos of new Augusta County supervisor David Karaffa taking the oath of office
And celebrating with those who worked hard to get him into this position.

Sarah Palin's coming to town
Sarah Palin is making plans to visit Iowa soon.
Will the Other McCain be able to hang around until then?
Sure it's summer, but I've been inspired by a Christmas song - Santa Claus is coming to town - for this parody.
You better watch out
as liberals cry
Here comes a force
They cannot deny
Sarah Palin's coming to town
She's riding her bus
she's riding it twice
she gonna show you the Tea Party's nice
Sarah Palin's coming to town
She knows what you've been spending
She sees the piles of pork
She knows that debt is bad, not good
so let's chant "Drill, baby, drill."
O! You better watch out
as liberals cry
Here comes a force
They cannot deny
Sarah Palin's coming to town

UPDATE3: Wyblog http://wyblog.us/blog/election/tpaw-michele-rick-sarah.htmljoins the fun.

Parade of candidates
Another Saturday morning, another candidate announcement in the SWAC area - Jason Bibeau for Augusta County Treasurer.
Senate candidate George Allen will be in town Monday for lunch.
Both events will have dutch-treat meals. No Obama-treat meals.
Guess no Democrats will show up.

Candidate and a breakfast
SWACgirl has the news of Kurt Michael's candidacy announcement Saturday morning.
Looks like the announcement will be indoors, with lots of rain in the forecast.
Afterwards, there's a Dutch treat breakfast.
I'm glad it's not an Obama-treat breakfast (you go through the line and the guy behind you has to pay for your stuff).
That works for the first person in line. Definitely not for the last.

Future site of SWAC breakfast
SWACgirl and crew held the Conservative Round Table breakfast against Saturday.
It was from 40 attendees in October to 67 in November and now 73 in January.
How big a place will they need in the future? Maybe this big?

The Rose Bowl is available most of the year.

Filling in on the nature desk
SWACgirl is known for posting her pictures of the Augusta County countryside. But this weekend we have the first snow of the season and she's not here. What to do? SWAC Corps bloggers fill in.
David put up a pair of links.
I offered an early picture of the morning snow, a day after shot and the all-important global warming snark.
Phil has views from his porch and also from the western part of the county.
And Bob was a prophet, posting pictures from previous snowy days on StrictlyVa Wednesday.
SWAC Corps. Taking care of your snow picture needs.

Latest rankings
The lastest Blognetnews Virginia rankings came out today, and I'm at my highest point ever - 3rd overall and 2nd on the conservative side.
Now, I know I passed Yankee Phil just because he's going to slow down and enjoy the summer. So the question remains - When's SWACgirl going to take a vacation?
It must be hard work being number one so many weeks in a row. Need some rest?

Origins of SWAC corps
Some of our local bloggers need a refresher about the history of SWAC corps. In my second week of blogging, I created SWAC corps in response to President Obama's service proposals - read our blogs and it's just like joining the Peace Corps or Americorps. I also started Iowahawk Corps on facebook at that time, and it has 158 members from across the country.
As a new blogger, I only knew three other SWAC bloggers since they welcomed me in comments on my first post. That's the original SWAC corps, but it's inclusive, not exclusive.
Remember, it's better to be a SWACer than a T-Macker.

SWAC Corps team update
Being a new blogger, it's fun to see all the resources out there. Blognetnews.com has an influence index, which charts your progress in the blogosphere.
This week, I'm ranked ninth among conservative blogs in Virginia. SWACgirl is number one, and Yankee Philip is sixth. Three of the top nine coming from Augusta County. I guess we know what's the center of the conservative universe in Virginia.

It's back
The agenda area of the President-elect's website is back up. I checked out the service area on Nov. 7 and decided to start up SWAC corps (read or blog 50 hours a year to earn my Obama credits).
I really like the college service part. They plan to propose a $4,000 tuition credit for 100 hours of community service. That's $40 an hour. Nice work if you can get it.
I wonder if College Republicans can use their service time to get that tuition credit. Would have been nice back in the day when I was cooking burgers at Roy Rogers restaurant to help pay college expenses.

Contest time
The Washington Post profiles likely Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs today. The third paragraph states he "monitors coverage intensively, pushing back against the smallest blog post he considers inaccurate. "
Do you think any of our SWAC bloggers can get his attention?

A corps is a corps, of course
Rush has been checking out the president-elect's website. Under service, there's lots of new corps for service.
I plan to start SWAC corps, where people get credit for doing community service by reading SWAC blogs 50 hours a year. There should definitely be a Rush Limbaugh corps under education. You learn a lot listening to Rush.
